What if you could make your peace with your own history? What if you could, as an adult, go back and make peace with your younger self, and make your peace with the parents we failed to understand when we were growing up? What if you could go back and reconnect with your parents with the benefit of a lifetime of wisdom and perspective? These are the questions director Shawn Levy asks in his latest film The Adam Project. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Walker Scobell, Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldaña and Catherine Keener, the film is the story of a time-traveling pilot Adam Reed (Reynolds) who teams up with his younger self, (Scobell), and his late father, Louis Reed (Ruffalo) to come to terms with his past, and losses, while saving the future.
In this throwback to the sci-films from the 80’s, the filmmaker proves with The Adam Project the power of nostalgia.

Time travel can be tricky and “The Adam Project” shows us just how complicated it can really get.
Directed by “Free Guy” filmmaker and “Stranger Things” producer Shawn Levy, the new sci-fi movie also involves some complicated concepts, like time travel and meeting your younger (or older) self. The script, written by Jonathan Tropper, T.S. Nowlin, Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin, also makes room for emotional themes and a heart-wrenching family dynamic.
In the vein of “E.T.,” “Back to the Future” and even “Meet the Robinsons,” the film has something for all ages, so families, kids, adults and Ryan Reynolds fans alike are probably wondering how to watch “The Adam Project. Read below for all the details.

“Enjoy yourselves,” said the ancient Romans (and the great early 20th century singer Guy Lombardo), “it’s later than you think.” Those words are a frequent refrain in the latest film from director Shawn Levy and star Ryan Reynolds, a sweet and snarky action-comedy which — in keeping with the duo’s similarly high-concept “Free Guy” — is only self-aware to a certain point.
On the one hand, “The Adam Project” recognizes that its star’s wounded sarcasm is the perfect fit for an Amblin-esque adventure about a swole fighter pilot who travels back in time in order to team up with his scrawny 12-year-old self. On the other hand, this exhaustingly overstuffed Netflix spectacle is so busy trying to fuse the temporal antics of “Back to the Future” into the space-age heroism of “Star Wars” — and to do so in a way that will keep people from clicking over to “Love Is Blind...

The Adam Project, the latest big-budget Netflix release you likely haven’t heard of until now, opens with a bit of text explaining that “Time travel exists. You just don’t know it yet.” Such vague emptiness is exactly the “this could apply to literally hundreds of movies” vibe you’ve just strapped yourself in for over this 100-plus-minute journey—it possesses the magic touch of vanishing from your mind immediately as it’s happening.
Directed by Shawn Levy from a script by Jonathan Tropper, T.S. Nowlin, Jennifer Flackett, Mark Lewin, and probably a dozen-ish other hands in the Netflix offices, it stars (you guessed it) Ryan Reynolds as Adam Reed, a time-traveling fighter pilot we’re introduced to as he’s disobeying orders from his superior, Maya Sorian (Catherine Keener), in the year 2050. He jumps back in time, desperate to sort out something that will change the future, but...

Netflix has released the fantastic trailer for The Adam Project from director Shawn Levy.
A time-traveling pilot teams up with his younger self and his late father to come to terms with his past while saving the future.
Sc-Fi Genius. I can’t wait for March 11.
So why watch this sci-fi film?
It’s got a great cast starring Ryan Reynolds, Zoe Saldana, Mark Ruffalo, and Jennifer Garner. The editing of the trailer along with the rousing music is brilliant. The other-worldly score by Rob Simonsen is gripping. The story, written by Jonathan Tropper, T.S. Nowlin, Jennifer Flackett, Mark Levin, is funny, emotional, heart-warming and somewhat relatable. The Baddies. The spaceships and how we want these in Lego form! The cool weapons and that platform! And lastly time travel!!

Deadpool, Bruce Banner and Gamora are all finally sharing a screen together — but not in a Marvel project. The first teaser for Netflix’s “The Adam Project” has arrived, teaming up Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana and more in a time-traveling adventure.
In the movie, Adam Reed (Reynolds) is a fighter pilot who accidentally crash lands in present-day 2022. Of course, in the timeline of the movie, Adam was only 12 years old in 2022. Now, he must team up with his past self “on a mission to save the future.”
You can watch the full teaser for “The Adam Project” in the video above.
To be fair, it’ll take more than just one adult and his 12-year-old self to fix things. Adam has a partner, played by Zoe Saldana. He also needs to seek out his father, who’s played by Mark Ruffalo. Evidently, there’s a bit of drama in the family,...

Bright, the 2017 fantasy thriller headlined by superstar Will Smith, had a distribution strategy that now—about three short years later in the midst of a pandemic—proved bellwether in hindsight. That’s because the project that was tailor-made to be a big screen blockbuster bypassed a theatrical release to premiere as an exclusive streaming offering on Netflix. While the film had its obstacles with critics (our own review was no exception), the streaming giant quickly greenlit a sequel, which is now moving forward with a director.
Louis Leterrier is in talks to occupy the director’s chair for the untitled Bright sequel, according to THR. Should the deal be finalized, the French helmer would step in for David Ayer, who directed the first film coming off two high-profile (theatrically-released) efforts, Suicide Squad (2016) and Fury (2015). Leterrier’s credits include the two “Transporter” titles, “Now You See Me,” “Clash of the Titans” and “Unleashed.” He executive produced and directed the Netflix series “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.”

Exclusive: Netflix is negotiating with Louis Leterrier to direct Bright 2, the sequel to the 2017 film that kicked off the streamer’s feature film franchise launch aspirations.
David Ayer directed the first film and was attached to the sequel, but he has been focused on rewriting to direct Dirty Dozen for Warner Bros, and he has other projects at Netflix.
The film will reteam Will Smith and Joel Edgerton in the tale of mismatched crime fighting partners, one of whom is an orc. The script is by Ayer and Evan Spiliotopoulos with a rewrite by T.S. Nowlin. The pic is produced by Ayer, Eric Newman and Bryan Unkeless.
Netflix set sights on a sequel in early 2018 after the original was released and watched by a record estimated 60 million, with far and away the most views for a Netflix film in its first week. Those numbers have been eclipsed by a...

Ryan Reynolds must have enjoyed working with director Shawn Levy on Free Guy, because the two are now set to team up on a time travel action-comedy, which given Levy’s track record, will no doubt be an effects-heavy blockbuster designed with a family audience in mind.
Now firmly established as one of the biggest movie stars in the world, Reynolds also seems to be making a play to feature in as many big budget projects as possible, and hasn’t starred in anything that cost less than $50 million to produce since 2016’s forgotten action thriller Criminal. While their latest team-up doesn’t have an official title as of yet, the concept has been kicking around Hollywood for close to a decade. In fact, back in 2012, Tom Cruise was circling the idea when it was called Our Name is Adam.
The earliest version of the script came from The Maze Runner’s T.S. Nowlin,...

This third and final entry in the Maze Runner franchise gives the Ya series a rousing send-off, stream-lining the books’ overly complex plot in favour of a succession of exciting action set-pieces. It might be a little too long at a posterior-troubling two hours and twenty minutes, but better that than splitting the third part of the trilogy into two movies, like certain other dystopian teen movies we could mention.
To its credit, Maze Runner: The Death Cure assumes audiences are already familiar with the events of 2014′s The Maze Runner and 2015′s The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, because otherwise, what are you doing here in the first place? To that end, the film opens in rip-roaring fashion,...

The “Maze Runer” trilogy of movies may not be your bag, but it’s certainly mine. And for the past four years, I’ve had a blast experiencing this tale of a horrible post-apocalyptic conservative dystopia taken down by children. In the present age, these stories somehow seem to gain more and more relevance, and that certainly was the case with “The Death Cure,” the third and final installment released in January.
TheWrap has exclusively obtained a clip from the special features on the home video release of “Maze Runner: The Death Cure” in which cast members Patricia Clarkson, Kaya Scodelario and Rosa Salazar honor director Wes Ball’s dedication to bringing these stories to life on the big screen, and Ball himself reflects on the experience.
The “Maze Runner” films are Ball’s first three gigs directing feature films, and he calls himself “lucky” for having been blessed with having the chance to work with this team on these particular projects.

Chicago – The giant robot film genre is in trouble. It wasn’t enough that “Transformers” has ground it to dust, but now the “Pacific Rim” sequel is going the same direction. There is action-a-plenty in the followup to Guillermo Del Toro’s fun and light first film, that lightness is missing in “Pacific Rim Uprising.”
Rating: 3.0/5.0
It’s not a bad film, it’s just a conventional one. Del Toro did sort of an anti-Transformers take in the first Pacific Rim, applying his signature of myth and fairy tale to giant robots versus Godzilla-like creatures. He also produces this one, and first time feature director Steven S. DeNight helms and co-writes this latest adventure. There are folks from the first film, including a hyper Charlie Day (time to switch to decaf, dude) and Burn Gorman as scientists, but with a five year gap between stories it’s a constant, “now what his (or her) purpose?...

Chicago – The third part of the “Maze Runner” trilogy is called “The Death Cure,” and that cure best describes the faint pulse of this run-out-of-steam dystopia aimed at “young adults.” It is mostly warring and not much more, except for a stab (literally) at misplaced emotion.
Rating: 2.0/5.0
The trilogy started out with promise, as they are based on a novel series by James Dashner. The first film had a drawing-back-the-curtain effect, promising that perhaps the strange maze our heroes had to go through was some sort of mind experiment. But by the second film, that effect turned into a literal and bizarre adventure in a post-apocalyptic world, a kiddie “Mad Max.” The third installment continues the second film concept, and ups the ante. More big bang effects, more guns, more 20-year-olds-portraying-teenagers-as-virus-survivalists, and less of anything to really latch onto. This is the Maze Runner film for completists only.

Welcome (back) to the Scorch!
Picking up where 2015’s “Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials” left off — and bringing the best and most kinetic of the post-apocalyptic Ya sagas to an exhausting finish — “The Death Cure” reintroduces us to a fallen world where a killer virus has decimated most of the population. ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ is getting delayed for another month. Variety is reporting that Legendary/Universal will be moving the film’s release date back a month to March 23, 2018. The previous Release date exactly a month earlier was the latest in a string of release date changes that span both 2017 and early 2018.
Steven S. DeKnight steps into the directors chair, with a script that was co-written with Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder, and T.S. Nowlin, from a story by Guillermo del Toro. The film stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Tian Jing, Charlie Day, Adria Arjona, Burn Gorman, and Rinko Kikuchi in the sequel.
‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ was shot in both Australia and China. But the new release date will ensure that the film has stiff competition at a loaded box-office weekend. Five other releases, including a slew of animated features, are set to come out on that weekend. While my excitement for...

Warner Bros’ Monster Universe is really starting to shape up. With the almighty monster-off destined to erupt in three years time with Godzilla Vs Kong in May 2020 a deal has been struck that will see the Blair Witch (2016) and You’re Next director Adam Wingard take up the coveted helm.
Wingard is no stranger to the monster, well in the form of horror monsters that is, rebooting 2016’s Blair Witch, 2012’s V/H/S and most recently wrapping on Netflix‘s adaptation of the horror Manga Death Note. It’s no secret Wingard has become a very sought-after talent with many fighting for his services, it was even rumoured he would be taking the helm of the Tom Hardy led Venom, instead, Ruben Fleischer has now stepped into that role.

The MonsterVerse, featuring Godzilla and King Kong, is in full swing, following 2014's release of Godzilla and this year's Kong: Skull Island. Not to be confused with Universal's universe featuring its own classic monsters, now called Dark Universe, the MonsterVerse's next chapter will be Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019. Following that sequel to 2014's Godzilla, Godzilla Vs. Kong is set to bring the two legendary monsters together in 2020.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the director attached to Godzilla Vs. Kong, and it's neither Godzilla's Gareth Edwards or Kong: Skull Island's Jordan Voght-Roberts. Adam Wingard, known for his work on horror films such as You're Next, The Guest, and 2016's remake of Blair Witch, has been tapped to direct the feature, from a script crafted by a writer's room including Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean), Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne (Star Trek Beyond), Lindsey Beer, Cat Vasko,...

Well. That career escalated quickly. Once the darling of the indie horror scene with small films like A Horrible Way To Die and You're Next Adam Wingard has locked in a deal to direct Godzilla vs. Kong for Legendary and Warner Bros. To date the biggest thing he has directed is his recent adaptation of the Japanese franchise Death Note for Netflix due in August. This upcoming chapter was written by committee, lead by Pirates of the Caribbean scribe Terry Rossio. He was joined back in March for a writing pow-wow by Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne (Star Trek Beyond), Fresh faces and female voices Lindsey Beer and Cat Vasko, Maze Runner movies writer T.S. Nowlin (also Pacific Rim: Uprising), Jack Paglen (Transcendence and...

Adam Wingard, the director best known for his low-budget films such as You're Next and The Guest has landed his biggest movie directing gig yet. According to Variety, he is officially set to direct the highly anticipated Godzilla Vs. Kong film for Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros.
This giant monster universe all started with Gareth Edwards' 2014 film Godzilla and it was followed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts' Kong: Skull Island. Before Godzilla Vs. Kong comes out, though, we have Godzilla: King of the Monsters coming from director Michael Dougherty.
Wingard is currently working on the live-action adaptation of Death Note for Netflix. He seems like a solid directing choice for this project, regardless of the fact he directed that terrible Blair Witch movie that came out last year. It will be interesting to see what he ends up doing with Godzilla Vs. Kong, especially with the big budget he'll have to work with.

It may not be wholly revolutionary in both its approach and the material it explores, but Phoenix Forgotten was a lot more fun than a lot of folks might give it credit for, and it completely took me back to my high school days of being obsessed with The X-Files, science fiction, and the question of whether or not we are truly alone in this universe. Phoenix Forgotten does an admirable job of blending fact and fiction, and while there was one plot point that I felt was a little “too convenient,” overall, co-writer/director Justin Barber crafts an intriguing sci-fi-fueled mystery that hooked me from the very beginning. It may not make my list of favorite movies from this year, but Phoenix Forgotten was still an entertaining time nonetheless.
