With winter storms still sweeping through the land, it might be nice to stay in and watch some movies on your streamer of choice. While Netflix is increasingly interested in its own original films, they are still committed to bringing you plenty of classic catalogue titles, including a whole bunch in February. It was hard to pick our favorites, but we tried anyway.
Below are the best new movies on Netflix in February 2022.
The Addams Family Paramount Pictures
There’s been so much “Addams Family”-related stuff since the two original theatrical films in the 1990s that it’s easy to forget just how good they both were. The first film, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and co-written by Burton collaborators Larry Wilson and Caroline Thompson (and later re-written by Paul Rudnick), doesn’t have quite the same edge as the sequel but it did establish the world beautifully. This is...

Just to recap, so far this week we’ve heard news that Uncle Buck, In The Heat Of The Night and Say Anything have been earmarked for TV treatment. While Say Anything has already been canned due to original director-writer Cameron Crowe’s vocal disapproval of the project, there’s still a clear trend emerging. And that’s not taking into account other titles announced in recent months; Real Genius, Minority Report and Rush Hour. With TV networks increasingly turning to film for inspiration (caused by a lack thereof), today we can add another title to the list, as Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs is now destined for the small screen.

★★★☆☆ Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (2013) follows on from the phenomenal success of the surreal 2009 original, which came out of nowhere to challenge animation hotshots Disney Pixar and Dreamworks. Adapted from the beloved children's book by Judi and Ron Barrett of the same name, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs followed inventor Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) and quick-witted weathergirl Sam Sparks (Anna Faris) as they attempted to fix the inexorable shower of food created by Flint's 'Diatomic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator'. However, things are about to get tasty.

Remember when it seemed like a terrible idea for Hollywood to make a big screen comedy out of 21 Jump Street ? Or an animated feature film version of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs that bore little to no resemblance to Judi and Ron Barrett's classic children's book? This Friday, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are getting ready to prove us all wrong again with their third big screen feature, The Lego Movie , an epically scaled genre and franchise mash-up that manages to find the perfect blend of plastic pop and good old fashioned imagination. ComingSoon.net traveled to Legoland itself in Calabasas, California to speak with Lord and Miller about the long, long road they traveled (and some of the long, long green things they saw) in bringing The Lego Movie to the big...

Chicago – I was paying attention to the movie. Correction: I was mostly paying attention to the movie. It was challenging to ignore my angry, empty stomach and fully enjoy the food coma that is “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2”.
Just don’t make the same mistake I did and eat first.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
To justify a sequel, a mostly new filmmaking team converted inanimate food that rained from the sky to living, breathing and speaking “foodimals”.
The star of the foodimals? Barry the strawberry, who turns out to be the star of the film. Like his fellow foodimals, Barry is an ambulatory chunk of food spawned from an invention that goes by the mumbled name “Fldsmdfr”. In the sequel, the Fldsmdfr has been popping out food on the island of Swallow Falls since the first film.
Kid Critic Rating: 3.5/5.0

The Herculean task of any sequel is repeating the experience of the original film, or improving on it. That's nigh on impossible due to the simple fact that you only get to take the viewing public utterly by surprise once.
The out-of-nowhere novelty and delight of Sony Animation's "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," based on Judi and Ron Barrett's children's book, is missing in "Meatballs 2." The design and color palette is as glorious as ever. But the laughs are few and innovations fewer in this generally winded knock-off.
Inventor Flint Lockwood's cuisine-creating weather machine has come to the attention of his idol, corporate scientist and TV science show host Chester V (Will Forte), who worries that the island of Swallow Falls is too dangerous to live on -- for now. The gadget is producing food animals -- predators, "Taco-diles" and Cheese(burger) Spiders, Su-sheep and Shrimpanzees and Fla-mangoes.

The first film was hysterical, and whether the sequel to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs will retain that originality, remains to be seen. I'm game, especially with the "There's a leak in the boat scene." Priceless. Starring in the film, along with who they're credited as, are Bill Hader (Flint Lockwood), Anna Faris (Sam Sparks), James Caan (Tim Lockwood), Will Forte (Chester V), Kristen Schaal (Barb), Terry Crews (Earl), Andy Samberg (Brent), Neil Patrick Harris (Steve) and Benjamin Bratt (Manny). Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn direct the film scripted by John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein and Erica Rivinoja, based on the characters created by Judi Barrett and Ron Barrett.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 picks up where Sony Pictures Animation’s mouth-watering comedy left off. Inventor Flint Lockwood thought he saved the world when he destroyed his most infamous invention — a machine that turned water into food causing cheeseburger rain and spaghetti tornadoes. But Flint soon learns that his invention survived and is now creating food-animals – “foodimals!” Flint and his friends embark on a dangerously delicious mission to battle hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, hippotatomuses, cheespiders and other foodimals to save the world – again!

"This is James Caan's character Tim Lockwood being chased by our food animals known as the BananaOstrich." Well, you just sold me a ticket, "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2." The first "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs" was one of those lovely little animation surprises, where something came together beautifully. Phil Lord and Chris Miller took the lovely but simple book by Judi Barrett and Ron Barrett and turned it into a very fast-paced and sincere bit of animated surreality, full of wonderful goofball gags and a very sweet and sunny disposition. The first film ended with a victory...

One of the biggest, most pleasant surprises of 2009 was "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs." Loosely based on the slim children's book by Judi and Ron Barrett, directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (who at the time were best known for their cult TV series "Clone High"), and produced by the relatively unproven Sony Animation, it seemingly came out of nowhere and totally delighted just about everyone who saw it. Of course, an unexpected hit always leads to a more expected follow-up, so this fall we're getting "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2," with a new trailer having just dropped online.Almost everyone is back from the first movie (including Bill Hader, Anna Faris, James Caan, Andy Samberg, Benjamin Bratt and Neil Patrick Harris), with the weirdly notable exception of Terry Crews subbing for Mr. T (what could Mr. T possibly be up to?) As the trailer explains,...

This past Thursday afternoon, Sony Animation unveiled some early unfinished footage of its upcoming release, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" (opening on September 27). "Cloudy 2" is, of course, the sequel to the 2009 hit film that was loosely based on the popular book by Judi and Ron Barrett. Sadly, we can't just show you the footage, but we can tell you about it! (Which, misleading exclamation point aside, is admittedly a disappointment. We will do our best.)

Raking in critical acclaim and more than $243 millions worldwide, the animated adventure Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs whet Sony Pictures' appetite for more movies centered on the shortsighted inventor Flint Lockwood and his plucky ladylove Sam Sparks. So the studio hired Horrible Bosses scribes John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein to spin a new story based on the beloved children's book by Judi and Ron Barrett. Set shortly after the events of the first film, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 reveals Lockwood's Fldsmdfr machine - which transforms water into various food items - was not destroyed as we all thought. Instead, it has been hard at work making curious new animals that are part animal, part vegetable (or cheeseburger or pastry) that are becoming a threat to the little island of Swallow Falls. Last summer we learned that this delectable menagerie would include creatures like watermelephants, tacodiles,...

The 2009 film from Sony Pictures Animation, nominated for several Annie Awards, was based on the children's book from by Judi and Ron Barrett and brought to the big screen by the duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller. And while co-writers/directors Lord and Miller won't be back for the sequel, Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers, the talented cast including Bill Hader, Anna Faris and Andy Samberg (and, please, Mr. T), are all on-board as well as a great new voice in comedian Kristen Schaal. THR reports that Schaal has just joined the developing animated sequel at Sony. She should be a great fit as a now seasoned voice-actress. Schaal supplied her voice for Pixar's Toy Story 3 but the actor really shines in her current gig as youngest daughter Louise on Fox's animated series Bob's Burgers. She's also well...

Well, we guess they had to call it something. We already reported that Sony is moving full-steam ahead on a sequel to their 2009 adaptation of Judi and Ron Barrett's children's book "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs," but would not utilize the storyline from the book's sequel, "Pickles to Pittsburgh." Hot shit "Horrible Bosses" writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein were hired to write the script and while original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller have moved on to live action (they directed next month's terrifically cartoony "21 Jump Street"), Sony substituted them with two story artists from the first film – Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn. What it was going to be called remained a mystery…until now. Thanks to a promo image at Coming Soon, everyone can now say hello to "Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers." Evocative.

Sony Pictures Animation has hired Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn to direct the sequel to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Chris Miller and Phil Lord directed the first film, but have since moved on to directing live-action movie like 21 Jump Street.
This will be Cameron and Pearn's first feature film directing gig, but they are both artists who worked on the first film for Sony. So they're familiar with the the territory. There's no information on what the story will be about, the movie hasn't even been officially greenlit yet, but I'm sure it will eventually happen.
I really enjoyed the first film, and I would love it if the sequel ended up being just as good and entertaining. I guess we'll see if Cameron and Pearn has what it takes to helm a movie.

Nick Swardson & Tj Miller To Voice Stop Motion Comedy 'Hell & Back' Sony has tasked two relative unknowns with directing the sequel to their hit kids film "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" (which ended up grossing more than $230 million worldwide), Variety reports. The film, which is not yet greenlit (but is being actively developed), will be helmed by Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn, both making their big screen directorial debuts (they both worked on the original film). This is typical of the way that the animation world works, with those in lower positions gradually rising in the ranks to become directors. Cameron was a story artist on the original "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs," while Pearn served as head of story. (Having a background in the story department always helps). The original film, an adpatation of the beloved children's book by Judi and Ron Barrett, was written and directed...

The immediate forecast at Sony Pictures Animation calls for more meatballs as screenwriters John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the duo behind the new comedy Horrible Bosses, have been tapped to pen a sequel to the 2009 animated hit, the L.A. Times reports. The original Cloudy pulled in $243 million worldwide by adapting Judi and Ron Barrett.s 1978 children.s novel into a high-energy, 3D animated adventure story about an amateur inventor (Bill Hader) who comes up with a weather machine that makes it rain food over his hometown of Chewandswallow. Yet while the Barretts came up with their own follow up to the initial Meatballs -- titled Pickles to Pittsburgh -- the Times says Sony will go in a different direction for its sequel by developing an original idea. That.s not the only major change being made by Team Meatballs. Original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller also will...

It happens every year: A few flicks fall through the cracks and I find myself wishing I'd seen them earlier. Lately I've been lucky in that most of my late arrivals have been good, not great, and certainly nothing likely to crack my Top 20 from a few weeks back. And then I rented the animated comedy Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs -- and I wanted to kick myself. Now my Top 20 was incorrect, incomplete, and (in my mind) a complete shambles. But since going back and re-writing would be stupid, not to mention time-consuming, I thought I'd just write a little piece about this awesome little flick.
Easily one of the funniest animated features in years, Cloudy is about a well-meaning young inventor who (somehow, don't ask) causes food to rain from the sky. So while there's silly stuff for the tots and a (surprisingly subtle) bunch of morals for the impressionable youths,...

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs (Blu-ray)Sony Home ENTERTAIMENT2009/Rated PG/ 90 minsNow Available – List Price $39.95With so many animation studios attempting to replicate the winning formula of Pixar it's often a surprise when one of them turns out a feature that's appealing to adults as well as children. A film about food, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs is one of those rare animated films that tastes good going down, leaving little side effects because it was mixed with all the right ingredients. Like the folks at Pixar, directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller appear to be fans of good animation and great movies in general, employing a variety of familiar film techniques and homages that work. Though their film enjoyed success theatrically as a 3D release, seeing it in good ole two dimensions is still an enjoyable experience because of its simple story with sweet and intriguing characters that inhabit it.

Let's kick this off by acknowledging that this isn't really a list of the decade's best kid movies because -- let's face it -- kids like nearly everything they see in a movie theater, as evidenced by the upcoming "squeakuel" to 2007's Alvin and the Chipmunks. While we'd all like to think that our progeny shall be born with very our own impeccable taste, that's just not how it works, but I do suppose that bodily function jokes are an inevitable rite of passage that most adults learn to either tolerate or ignore and, in unfortunate cases, never outgrow. At this point, I could put together a sanitized list of films that avoid such jokes and call it sufficient, but that's not of much use here. After all, when it comes to a list like this that concerns films that have been in circulation for a matter of years, most...

Movie fans returned for a second helping of "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs." Sony's 3-D animated film retained the No. 1 spot earning $24.6 million.
Based on the popular 1978 children's book by Judi and Ron Barrett, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" led this weekend's film, and so far, has raised its domestic haul to $60 million after 10 days in theaters.
Meanwhile, the Bruce Willis robot thriller "Surrogates" opened at No. 2 with $15 million. Touchstone Pictures, the film's distributor, hoped it would open at No. 1 but they didn't forecast "Cloudy's" momentum. The animated film only dropped 19 percent from previous weekend.
And moviegoers didn't quite let "Fame" fly high at the box-office. The PG-rated remake of the 1980 musical opened at No. 3 with a lower-than-expected $10 million debut. MGM hoped for an opening around the $15 million range.
Another sad story of the weekend is Dennis Quaid's sci-fi film "Pandorum." The film wasn't shown to critics in advance,...

Sony Picture Animation’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs took the top spot at the box office over the weekend. The 3-D kid flick dominated with $30.3 million, the third largest opening for a September release in history. Meanwhile, Megan Fox’s latest opened poorly.
The well-reviewed PG Meatballs movie is an animated adaptation of the beloved children’s book by Judi and Ron Barrett and features a comedic voice cast. It’s total was boosted by an IMAX release and half digital 3-D theaters. I’m looking forward to this one.
In second was the unconventional comedy The Informant! starring Matt Damon as a goofy insider. The Steven Soderbergh film made $10.5 million, meeting expectations and luring 72% of its audience over the age of 30. Trust me, it’s funny.
Last weekend’s winner, Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself, fell 58% with $9.9 million. That guy cranks out the hits,...

Don’t be fooled by the title, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs is the furthest thing from a dark, gloomy and nebulous film. It’s a sunny, warm, bright and cheerful movie that abounds in optimism and beams with good intentions, good will and, most of all, good fun. Is it a great film like Pixar’s Up? No. But it’s a movie that the kiddies will love, and there’s enough in it for adults to enjoy as well.
Based on Judi & Ron Barrett’s sweetly regarded 1978 children’s book, the movie captures the spirit of the source material while spreading out the plot in new directions. In the book, Grandpa tells his grandkids a bedtime story about the town of Chewandswallow, where the weather comes “three times a day, at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everything that everyone ate came from the sky.” Sounds great, right? Sure,...

From the children’s picture book of the same name, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures Animation, comes ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,’ a tasty tale of an all-you-can-eat buffet gone wrong. A well meaning inventor, Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader), has been trying to come up with the one thing that’ll put his experiments (spray on shoes, monkey thought translator) on the map, while trying to help people at the same time. But everytime his inventions go bust, Flint’s heavily eyebrowed Dad (James Caan) frowns on his attempts and tries to persuade him to join the family business. Added to his distress, Flint has been forever bothered and pestered by town brute Brent (Adam Samberg). Aided by Steve the Chimp (Neil Patrick Harris), Flint forges ahead with his next invention, a water to food machine, and when he tests his newest creation, it’s accidentally sent into Earth’s orbit.

It’s a drag for a young, budding scientist like Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader), so he invents stuff to keep his mind off the general dreariness of the situation. None of his inventions are particularly practical, one being a device that makes food out of water. His dad is less than enthused with Flint’s dream, and instead urges him to work at the family’s sardine bait and tackle shop. But Flint will have none of it, and decides to test his experiment during the grand opening of the town’s sardine theme park. Meanwhile, Sam Sparks (Anna Faris...
