Seth Macfarlane’s production company, Fuzzy Door, has launched a new technology division and hired former Siri CMO, Faith Sedlin, as its president, according to an announcement on Tuesday.
In the role, Sedlin will oversee all operations for the new division, including the company’s production tool, ViewScreen. Created on MacFarlane’s request, ViewScreen allows for the visualization of virtual assets in real time and has been used on shooting/editing virtual lead characters on Hulu’s “The Orville: New Horizons” and the upcoming “Ted” TV series for Peacock. It was developed for Fuzzy Door by visual effects supervisor Brandon Fayette and software developer Gene Reddick.
“I’m thrilled Faith recognizes ViewScreen’s potential and will lead the Fuzzy Door Tech team in introducing and marketing Brandon and Gene’s revolutionary technology to all filmmakers,” MacFarlane said in a statement. “Under Faith’s leadership, this division has a lot of...

It was a very good year for VFX in television, as evidenced by the five nominated shows in the special visual effects category. “Game of Thrones,” “The Man in the High Castle,” “The Orville,” “Star Trek: Discovery” and “The Umbrella Academy” all showcased truly cutting-edge, imaginative storytelling elements added by artists during the post-production process. Relying on the latest technological advances and tools allowed the teams behind these series to better plan out and then execute everything from elaborately choreographed battles in outer space to fire-breathing dragons, to the destruction of the Statue of Liberty.

The blockbuster fantasy epic, nominated for its visually ambitious penultimate episode, “The Bells,” presented lead visual-effects supervisor Joe Bauer and his team several challenges, but “the biggest was building out, and then destroying King’s Landing,” he says. Previs boutique Halon Entertainment ("The Hunger Games," "Prometheus," "Life of Pi") has formed a partnership with Minimo Vfx of Barcelona that will usher in a new "build it once" philosophy for CG creatures during pre-production. This will avoid the duplication of making them again later on during VFX. The two companies are currently working together on "Dome," directed by VFXer Brandon Fayette. Through this partnership, Halon is looking to bid the final creature creation part of the Vfx process during previs, long before VFX vendors are usually decided on. Creatures will be fully modeled, rigged, surfaced, and performance tested for any VFX pipeline. Typically, characters are conceived by an art department, built by a company such as Halon for previs and then built again by a VFX studio for final shots. Daniel Gregoire, CEO and previsualization director of Halon, explained that many of the decisions made in previs are...

Fringe Review, Season 4, Episode 8: “Back to Where You’ve Never Been”
Written by David Fury and Graham Roland
Directed by Jeannot Szwarc
Airs Fridays at 9pm (Et) on Fox
This week, on Fringe: Peter crosses over to the Other Universe, Lincoln plays Clincoln, and shapeshifters are once again up to no good
After a long break, the best sci-fi series going is back. This week’s episode was intended as the fall finale, but when the best Game Six in World Series history shook up the schedule last October, it was pushed ‘til now. Its original position in the season is easy to spot- with its fantastic ending, “Back to Where You’ve Never Been” would have functioned excellently as a tease to take the audience through the hiatus and may have resulted in the series getting a bit more end-of-year list love. It’s not a perfect episode,...

According to dictionary.com, the definition of reciprocity is a reciprocal state or relation, a mutual exchange. When you give something to someone, be it tangible or not, they give it back and vice versa.
As Walter said in last night’s episode of Fringe, every relationship is reciprocal. Between man and woman, man and child, person and pet… Every relationship is about the give and take. In last night’s episode it was about man and Walternet’s machine.
But before I get too far ahead of myself, let’s take it back and recap tonight’s episode from the beginning…
The episode begins as the fringe division crew is on the scene with Nina Sharp at Massive Dynamic’s off site hanger where the doomsday machine is being assembled and tested. Whereas Olivia mentions it’s bigger than she imagined, Peter supposes, “it’s just big enough to destroy a couple of universes.
