- Brian Browne was one of the leading jazz pianists in Canada in the 1960s. As a teenager, he idolized Art Tatum, George Shearing and Oscar Peterson. He played piano at hospitals and retirement homes when he was in high school. He attended the University of Ottawa for a short time, ostensibly to become a lawyer. He had steady gigs in Ottawa, played live-to-radio concerts, studied at Berklee School of Music, and won a scholarship to study with Oscar Peterson in Toronto.
