Former Donald Trump personal lawyer Michael Cohen hired a outside tech consultant to gin up enthusiasm about Trump’s business acumen and presidential chances, which included attempts to rig online polls by Drudge Report and CNBC, according to a new report in the Wall Street Journal.
Cohen used the consultant John Gauger on and off for several years and also stiffed him out of his full payment, the paper reported, billing the Trump Organization $50,000 for the services of Gauger’s RedFinch Solutions — but only paying the consultant between $12,000 and $13,000.
The piece by Michael Rothfeld, Rob Barry and Joe Palazzolo said that Cohen hired Gauger to artificially drum up Trump’s numbers in a CNBC poll about the nation’s top business leaders in 2014 by writing a computer program that would repeatedly vote for the billionaire. The gambit didn’t work, but in a Drudge Report poll a year later, Gauger...

Telling ripped-from-the-headlines stories is a Law & Order franchise trademark.
So I knew that sooner or later, Law & Order: Svu would provide its own take on the Brett Kavanaugh controversy.
Law & Order: Svu Season 20 Episode 8 did just that in the second half of the hour, deftly weaving the story into a tale about the cops' efforts to stop a serial rapist.
I was nervous when Bethany began telling her story.
Every detail of her story matched the accusation that Christine Ford made against Brett Kavanaugh, and I thought it might be a little too on the nose.
I know Law & Order: Svu is known for ripped-from-the-headline stories, but I thought it was a little too exact and that might turn some people off.

Donald Trump plunged in ratings with his 60 Minutes interview Sunday night.
The newsmag’s 1.8 rating among 18-49 year olds and 11.3 million viewers, while the strongest showing of any non-nfl program Sunday night, marks a 47% dive in the demo and 43% in total viewers, relative to Trump’s most recent previous 60 Minutes sit-down. Trump had bagged a 3.4 demo rating, and 20M viewers overall, in his November 13, 2016 interview on the CBS newsmag, broadcast shortly after his election. That time, unlike this past Sunday, Trump enjoyed no NFL lead-in support.
Trump’s Sunday 60 Minutes interview also appears to be down by double digits compared to the newsmag’s most recent broadcast benefiting from an NFL overrun. On September 30, the newsmag logged 2 2 demo rating and 13.537M total viewers.
This past Sunday, Trump had been handed an NFL overrun lead-in of 14.39 million viewers and a 3.6 demo rating.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins told reporters she now has the cover she needs to vote in favor of seating Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, saying the nominee’s controversial FBI speed-probe “appears very thorough.”
“Me too” Gop Sen. Jeff Flake told reporters in so many words, signaling it’s game-over time and Kavanaugh will get his lifetime appointment.
Collins, Flake, and Gop Sen. Lisa Murkowski held the keys to the kingdom for Kavanaugh, being three yes-vote holdouts on the Senate Judiciary Committee who might have blocked appointment for the judge accused of lying under oath during his confirmation process, and of sexually assaulting Christine Ford in high school.
Neither Collins nor Flake would actually say they would vote for Kavanaugh’s appointment tomorrow morning, though Flake had said a “yes” vote was his intention before the FBI probe had been initiated. But their thumbs up on the FBI probe...

Alyssa Milano says President Trump may be using cult-like powers to communicate to his followers and fill them with misinformation about the #MeToo movement.
Milano made the remark to Stephanie Ruhle on Wednesday, after the MSNBC anchor suggested during a live interview that a “huge portion of the population” agreed with Trump that the #MeToo era was “a scary time for young men.”
“Do they agree with him or is he using some sort of like cult-like force to try and make them see that?” asked Milano. The question prompted a visibly confused face from Ruhle, who looked at her co-host Ali Velshi as Milano kept talking.
“I’m not sure if you were able to have a real conversation with any American, whether they be Democrat or Republican, that they would side with this kind of behavior,” she continued, speaking of the president’s widely derided decision to mock...

Kellyanne Conway on Wednesday offered a robust defense of President Trump’s decision to mock Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford, telling reporters that the White House was getting fed up with the softball treatment of the woman who has accused its Supreme Court nominee of attempted sexual assault.
“She’s been treated like a Fabergé egg by all of us beginning with me and the president,” Conway said, defending Trump’s sarcastic criticism of Ford during a rally in Mississippi on Tuesday. “He’s pointing out factual inconsistencies.
“Do you have corroborations for her claims? Can you fill in her memory gaps, her factual inconsistencies?” the White House adviser added. “That is part of the evidence gathering process in any hunt for truth and those who pretend they are searching for truth are already voting against Brett Kavanaugh.”

We know how Donald Trump feels about flippers, but he apparently has no trouble being a flip-flopper. Seth Meyers mocked Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s Fox News Channel interview, in which Kavanaugh told Martha MacCallum he was a virgin during high school and “many years” after that.
Kavanaugh made this revelation in response to questions about a professor who alleges Kavanaugh locked her in a room during his Georgetown Prep days, tried to rip off her clothes and put his hand over her mouth. Christine Ford is set to testify Thursday before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Kavanaugh’s also been accused of thrusting his penis in a female classmate’s face during a drinking game while they both were students at Yale.
“It does not matter if you were a virgin,” Meyers shot back at Kavanaugh. “Devoting yourself to celibacy does not mean you cannot be a sexual assaulter… just ask thousand of priests.”
“You are being accused of sexual assault, not sexual intercourse,” Meyers continued.

The lawyers for Brett Kavanaugh and Dr. Christine Ford both have strong Hillary Clinton connections. It's interesting ... Kavanaugh's lawyer, Beth Wilkinson, is a high-powered, Washington D.C. lawyer who represented multiple top Clinton aides involved in the FBI email investigation during the campaign. She's also a long-time Democratic booster, and is married to CNN contributor David Gregory. As for Dr. Ford ... her lawyer, Debra Katz, was a campaign fundraiser for Clinton during her 2016 Presidential campaign.
