The film collective Radio Silence first catapulted to fame over a decade ago, riding the success of YouTube videos that used an interactive feature the site has since abandoned. In the past five years, the trio have directed two studio films, with their second, “Ready or Not” opening this week — and nothing about the work they’ve produced on that scale suggests they’ve lost their Diy ethos.
But much has changed since the group’s early years, when one of them parlayed an office gig at New Line to sneak into the facility on the weekends to make future viral shorts with memorable names like “Roommate Alien Prank Goes Bad” (a smash hit with over 33 million views) and “The Time Machine: An Interactive Adventure.” Reflecting on that era, the filmmakers said in a recent interview, there’s no way they could have achieved the same success today.

If this was the first found-footage horror you’d ever seen, then Devil’s Due would probably strike you as a fairly shocking tour de force. Unfortunately, it’s 2014 now and 78% of all mainstream horror films present themselves as found footage. Devil’s Due therefore has little to offer that the average horror fan hasn’t seen before and generally done quite a lot better.

Our own Vanessa Gomez and Staci Layne Wilson recently had a chance to sit down exclusively with the guys from Radio Silence, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Justin Martinez, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella, to talk about the home video release of Devil's Due! Check it out!
20th Century Fox's Devil’s Due features Allison Miller ("Terra Nova") and Zach Gilford ("Friday Night Lights"). It was penned by Lindsay Devlin and directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Radio Silence). Look for it on DVD and Blu-ray on April 29th!
Synopsis
After a mysterious night on their honeymoon, Zach and Samantha McCall find themselves dealing with an earlier-than-planned pregnancy. While recording everything on video for posterity, Zach begins to notice odd behavior in his wife that they initially attribute to nerves, but it soon becomes evident the disturbing changes to Samantha’s body and mind have a much more sinister origin.

After being released to theaters earlier this year, we’ll see a Devil’s Due Blu-ray and DVD release from Fox Home Entertainment in April. Unlike many of the bare bones horror releases we see, this one actually has quite a few special features and we’ve included the entire list below.
“After a mysterious, lost night on their honeymoon, a newlywed couple finds themselves dealing with an earlier-than-planned pregnancy. While recording everything for posterity, the husband begins to notice odd behavior in his wife that they initially write off to nerves, but, as the months pass, it becomes evident that the dark changes to her body and mind have a much more sinister origin.”
Devil’s Due was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, written by Lindsay Devlin, and stars Allison Miller and Zach Gilford. According to Blu-ray.com, Fox will release the movie to Blu-ray and DVD on April 29th.

Devil’s Due? More like Devil’s Don’T! Nailed It!
Sorry folks, this is what happens when I start writing reviews at 3Am after a midnight premiere, bad jokes and salty attitudes, but I’m more disappointed in the fact that I wanted to love Devil’s Due so much more than I did. If you forced me to place a bet on the best January “found footage” release, between this and Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, I would have doubled down on Radio Silence’s satanic baby mama drama in a heartbeat – and I also would have been a very poor film critic. Visually stunning yet hollow at its core, Devil’s Due delivers true moments of excitement, but never a real, solid, horrifying scare – which is kind of crucial for horror films these days.

It should have been the happiest time of their lives. In Devil’s Due, newlyweds Zach (Zach Gilford) and Samantha McCall (Allison Miller) return home from their honeymoon, unable to recall an apparently eventful night of their trip. When Sam discovers she is unexpectedly pregnant, joy quickly turns to horror as things to spiral out of control. Through the couple’s video diary, Sam and Zach begin to notice dark forces are at work and fear their baby could be an unholy vessel for evil.
The movie is directed by Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin of the collective Radio Silence. The four guys, including Justin Martinez and Chad Villella, provided one of the most memorable chapters in the horror anthology V/H/S. Devil’s Due marks their feature film debut and Gillett and Bettinelli-Olpin jumped on the phone to discuss satanic pregnancies and putting a new twist on the found footage genre.

Devil’s Due, the latest found footage horror movie to hit the big screen, comes creeping on the heels of the successful Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (which opened big, then faltered). Are audiences ready for another spooky, shaky-cam freak-out?

They play a newlywed, newly knocked-up couple who find out they picked up more than just a few trinkets on their honeymoon.

As usual: what was once the domain of indie filmmakers with more creativity than cash has become dominated by the major distributors. We're talking about "found footage horror," a storytelling gimmick that was resurrected by The Blair Witch Project several years ago, and has since become a sort of "playground" for indie filmmakers all over the world. (Check out [Rec] or Troll Hunter to see what I mean.) But as soon as Paramount hit the super jackpot with their initial Paranormal Activity acquisition, the writing was on the wall: these movies are super cheap to make and even when they bomb they make good money. (Cue a laundry list of movies like Apollo 18, The Devil Inside, and four Paranormal Activity sequels - so far.)
But there is a silver lining to all this: sometimes a "big studio" wants to make a "small horror movie" and they actually do it by hiring the right people.

In Devil's Due, co-directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (V/H/S) and first-time screenwriter Lindsay Devlin offer an uninspired found-footage riff on Roman Polanski's demon-spawn classic, Rosemary's Baby (1968).
On their Dominican Republic honeymoon, the squeakily innocent Samantha (Allison Miller) and Zach (Zach Gilford) are drugged by a cult who draw a circle, light a few candles, and call forth Beelzebub, who impregnates Samantha.
The pregnancy seems a happy surprise until Samantha begins having violent temper tantrums, eats a package of raw meat, and, in the film's best — but all too brief — action sequence, uses Carrie-like telekinetic power to dispatch three teens who catch her doing something truly yucky in the...

While most “evil infant” horror movies owe a debt of gratitude to the iconic Roman Polanski film Rosemary’s Baby, Devil’s Due has an actual icon from the 1968 masterpiece: A prop crucifix from that movie is used in this one.
That fun factoid, and a few others, were revealed by the guys behind Radio Silence - a team of four filmmakers, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, Justin Martinez and Chad Villella - as they unveiled their first full length feature on the Twentieth Century Fox lot last month. Good night nurse. Watch as a possessed Mom guts a deer in this clip from Devil’S Due.
Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence (V/H/S), written by Lindsay Devlin, and starring Allison Miller and Zach Gilford, check out the latest spot that dropped over the holidays.
After a mysterious, lost night on their honeymoon, a newlywed couple finds themselves dealing with an earlier-than-planned pregnancy. While recording everything for posterity, the husband begins to notice odd behavior in his wife that they initially write off to nerves, but, as the months pass, it becomes evident that the dark changes to her body and mind have a much more sinister origin.
It’s even Eli Roth approved.
The guys at @HiRadioSilence killed it. #DevilsDue is a legit scary, smart, horror film. So many awesome scenes. I loved it.

The devil. He does have a way of showing up at the worst possible time and throwing a wrench into even the best laid plans. In celebration of the release of Devil's Due on January 17th, we bring you our Top 5 Antichrist Films.
For honorable mentions we've got to include Michael Langdon (spawn of Tate and Vivien) from "American Horror Story: Murder House," the original season. Of course Hellboy holds at least some claim to the throne as well.
Research gave us the unforgettable name of Randall Flagg, who appears across many of the works of Stephen King as another possible antichrist. But the most amusing has to be Alan Moore's depiction of Harry Potter (although never named outright, it's quite clear whom he's referring to) in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen comic as the true son of Satan (click here if you're unfamiliar with the reference).

Director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin (V/H/S) makes his feature directorial debut next year with the found-footage horror, Devil’s Due.
The latest in the low-budget sub-genre, Devil’s Due boasts an intriguing premise, following a young newlywed couple on their path to parenthood, begetting something very different to what they first think.
Ahead of its release next month, Fox has debuted a new trailer for our shores, teasing another great look at the horrors to come.
