World-renowned comic book artist Joe Kubert has passed away in hospital at the age of 85. News of the creator's death broke over Twitter when Watchmen illustrator Dave Gibbons offered confirmation from hospital sources. "Reliable source confirms that Joe Kubert had been in hospital and has passed away. So sorry to hear this. A great artist and a great man," Gibbons wrote. This was followed by a tweet from Richard Bruning, husband of Vertigo executive editor Karen Berger: "Joe Kubert one of the finest men I've (more)...

I first saw Nexus at one of those ancient Chicago Minicons we used to run at the beautiful and even ancienter Congress Hotel. The Minicon was an intense show held roughly every month, no matter the weather or the proximity of the latest Chicago Bears game. We had about 75 dealers tables, admission cost 75¢, our dealers and attendees drove in from a 350 mile radius, and the whole thing was over within five hours; less, if the Bears were playing that Sunday.

Everyone expected fallout from last month's announcement: DC Entertainment Relocates Film, Television And Digital Operations To Burbank. Now I've confirmed what the Bleeding Cool website reported first and asked me to post: that three major DC Entertainment execs are exiting -- Richard Bruning, currently SVP and Creative Director; Cheryl Rubin, SVP of Brand Management; and Steve Rotterdam, SVP of Marketing and Sales. This is obviously a major shakeup at the company Diane Nelson runs for Warner Bros. But with new movement on Batman 3, Superman 2, Green Lantern, and now Wonder Woman (neither Watchmen nor Jonah Hex were on her watch), the exec who led the Harry Potter franchise so successfully is putting her stamp on the DC Comic characters now after years of screwed-up development. This is terrible for departing DC personnel, but great for reanimated and rebooted and maybe even brand spanking new franchises. According to Bleeding Cool, Bruning...

It has been reported that more key members of DC Comics editorial staff are to leave the company following an internal shuffle announced last week. Bleeding Cool claims that three executive employees have been released from the company or chosen not to relocate when DC's media division moves to Burbank, California. The first is Richard Bruning, DC's senior vice president and creative director, who was instrumental in launching the web-comics imprint Zuda which ended in July this year. Senior vice president of brand management Cheryl Rubin handled worldwide licensing (more)...
