The Podcast Academy, a group of 1,000-plus industry creators and executives, awarded Campside Media and Sony Music Entertainment’s Chameleon: Wild Boys with the top honor at this year’s 2023 Ambie Awards.
Wild Boys, which serves as the third season of Campside’s Chameleon series, uncovers the story of two young men who claimed to have been raised in the wilderness in British Columbia and proceeded to fool a small town. The eight-part series was led by Sam Mullins with producer Abukar Adan, senior producer Ashleyanne Krigbaum, editor Karen Duffin and ep Matthew Shaer.
“I had nothing happening in my career. I had two young kids, I was working in a taco restaurant, and I never made a podcast before. And Campside deserves so much credit because I cold-emailed these guys, and they just believed in the story, and they believed in me, and they changed my life, and I’ll never forget it,...

Just as film and TV have the Oscars and the Emmys, The Podcast Academy is positioning the Ambies to become the event of the year for the podcast industry as well as the newest fixture of Hollywood awards season, complete with shiny statuettes and a swanky ceremony that, for at least one evening, compels podcasters to dress for the camera.
Hosted by Larry Wilmore, the annual event’s third edition is taking place March 7 at the Westgate Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The company to beat will be Audible, which received a total of 19 nominations across the 26 Ambies categories, including several nods for podcast of the year (see below).
The Podcast Academy received a record 1,700 submissions this year, which were narrowed down by a blue-ribbon panel of judges — who apply every year to be part of the panel — to determine the nominees in each category. From there, voting opened up...

The debate between Kamala Harris and Mike Pence might not have been quite the unmitigated disaster of the Biden/Trump fracas of last week, but it’s still being referenced for all the wrong reasons. From Harris’ firm declarations of “Mr. Vice President, I’m speaking” in response to Pence’s attempted interruptions and her face mirroring the exasperation and veiled contempt of every woman who has ever had an entitled man talk down to her, to Pence’s bloodshot eye sparking questions about his health, little of what was actually debated is being talked about.
However, the most incongruous and commented-upon moment was a fly that landed on Pence’s head and remained there for two minutes, and now Saturday Night Live fans are calling for Jeff Goldblum to play the insect in a sketch.
While Goldblum is a beloved actor of varied talent, the reasoning is, of course,...

Exclusive: During its annual June convention, Promax plans an extra day devoted to marketers who have found themselves in between jobs due to the M&A waves rippling through Hollywood.
The main three-day confab June 4-6 At La Live will be preceded by a special invite-only day for those affected by mergers such as Disney’s acquisition of most of 21st Century Fox and At&T’s takeover of Time Warner. Restructuring at several other companies has also left many others in the lurch. Marketing is an area of particularly acute impact in terms of overall consolidation.
“Promax proudly supports the career development needs of our members throughout the year, but as we see our community face the pain of job loss — and the excitement that comes with shifting into new areas – it is critical that we step up and provide them with the tools and skills they need to thrive in this new competitive landscape,...
