Widely considered one of the best tight ends ever. On the NFL network show "Top 10: Tight ends", he was voted the 8th best tight end of all-time by analysts, behind (among others) Ozzie Newsome, Shannon Sharpe, Kellen Winslow and John Mackey.

He and his wife, October Gonzalez, have 2 children of their own: a daughter named Malia Gonzalez, born on May 27th, 2008, and a son named River Gonzalez, born in June 2010.
On April 23rd, 2009 Gonzalez was traded by the Kansas City Chiefs to the Atlanta Falcons for a 2010 2nd round draft pick. Gonzalez requested a trade in October 2008.
Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019.
