Telltale co-found Keven Bruner refers to its crunch culture as "trial by fire."
A new report from Game Informer that examine the rise and fall of Telltale Games has prompted a response from studio co-founder and former CEO Kevin Bruner who says that the company's crunch culture (which often required developers to work an incredible number of hours ahead of a game's release) was an unfortunate necessity caused by the studio's position and lack of other resources.
"For other studios, it happens all the time in games where, 'Our release date is this fall' and then the studio will announce that fall, 'Oh you know what, the game wasn’t ready, we pushed it out until next spring.' And that really wasn’t something that Telltale could do," said Bruner. "We didn’t have the budgets to delay production that long; we didn’t have the cushion.

The trouble at Telltale continues as the studio now appears to be close to shutting down
Telltale Games has reportedly suffered massive layoffs, suggesting that the studio might be shutting down.

Telltale employees took to Twitter and other social media sites over the weekend to state that they had lost their jobs. As the numbers grew, it became clear that these were not isolated incidents. However, the extent of the layoffs was not yet known.
Now, though, Gamasutra and other sites are reporting that sources close to the situation have announced that Telltale Games has laid off an astonishing 225 employees. That means that a small crew of 25 remains on staff. The identity and job titles of those employees are unknown at this time.

While most of the game industry was bustling about the Los Angeles Convention Center at E3, news was breaking away from the show. Telltale Games and Netflix were pushed into a clumsy reveal that the companies are teaming up for new projects, including a game based on Netflix original series “Stranger Things.”
Details of the Netflix deal and why it took so long to happen reveal new insight into a development studio that was once the darling of the gaming world, combining strong narrative design with eye-catching visuals. Speaking and emailing with a number of former Telltale employees, Variety found a company weighted down by an aging game development engine, too many projects fired out to poor sales reception, and consumer malaise (called “Telltale Fatigue”) that left Telltale a shadow of its former self.

Former Telltale Games CEO Kevin Bruner recently filed a breach-of-contract complaint against the studio he co-founded in 2004.
According to Marin County, Calif. court documents, Bruner asserts that he is owed compensatory damages following his premature expulsion from the company’s board. After an investment by Lionsgate in 2015, the Telltale board restructured its leadership, gradually pushing out Bruner and Dan Connors, another co-founder. Bruner said his contract entitled him to informational support while he prepared to sell his shares in the company, but alleges that Telltale cut him off from communication with the board, delaying his stock offering.
“The net effect of Bruner’s alleged removal from the board of directors was that Bruner was deprived of relevant insight into the management and financial state of Telltale and the value of its shares,” according to the lawsuit first reported on by the Marin Independent Journal.

Complete with non-player characters that “respawn” and the ability to roam an open world, “Westworld” takes the pillars of many of today’s most popular video games and gives them flesh. With the HBO original show back for a new season, the scars left by the titular video game-meets-amusement park’s founder Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) have been ripped open anew. Ford’s deeply broken version of leadership — filled with deception, misdirection, and manipulation — carries with it cautionary tales that video game studio leads and other creative visionaries can take to heart.
Ford is the embodiment of nearly everything an entrenched game director should avoid becoming. He suffers from what’s known as “Founder’s Syndrome,” even if his take is more murderous than most who share his affliction. Founders are typically both revered as geniuses central to the success of their organizations and feared for their capricious behavior. In some cases,...

Telltale Games is doing some great things in the gaming world, especially for casual gamers like me. Their Walking Dead series and their Batman series are both great! They have now released our first look at the upcoming Marvel game Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series. They also offer some new details on what the game will entail along with the voice cast.
That cast includes Friday Night Lights star Scott Porter as Star-Lord, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor actress Emily O'Brien as Gamora, Uncharted actor Nolan North will play Rocket Raccoon, Watch Dogs' Brandon Paul Eells will voice Drax, and The Wolf Among Us' Adam Harrington will voice Groot.
The story for the series will follow the Guardians team as they discover a powerful artifact after a major battle. Each of the Guardians wants the relic for different reasons, as does a villain who is the last of her kind.

You can now officially add Guardians of the Galaxy to Telltale’s growing list of episodic adaptations.
Confirming earlier rumors to be true, the studio posted a brief teaser trailer for its new licensed series during The Game Awards 2016. There was no actual gameplay on display, as instead we saw Star-Lord’s iconic cassette player drifting through space. What power ballads can we expect on Telltale’s particular awesome mix? We’ll find out soon enough.
In tandem with the reveal, Kevin Bruner, Co-Founder and CEO of Telltale Games, championed the rich nature of Guardians of the Galaxy – the story, the world and of course, those wise-cracking characters – which ought to fit right into Telltale’s wheelhouse.

Telltale Games, the prolific studio behind such episodic series as The Walking Dead, Tales from the Borderlands and Minecraft: Story Mode, is about to venture into Gotham City for its latest licensed property, Batman: A Telltale Games Series.
First unveiled during The Game Awards 2015 late last year, the only concrete detail we have regarding the story-driven title is that it’s due to premiere at some point in 2016.
Applying the Telltale formula to the Batman template certainly offers up a general overview as to what we can expect, though according to the studio’s CEO Kevin Bruner, Telltale’s episodic spin on the Caped Crusader is unlike any other Batman game available.
Our Batman series is looking fantastic. I think it might become one of the best things we’ve ever done. I can’t go into much detail, but the Batman team is amazing and they are really on top of it.

Our Batman series is looking fantastic. I think it might become one of the best things we’ve ever done. I can’t go into much detail, but the Batman team is amazing and they are really on top of it.

Earlier this week, Telltale wrapped up its critically-acclaimed first season of Game of Thrones, with The Ice Dragon bringing the curtain down on six episodes of bloodthirsty warfare and political intrigue remarkably well.
Buoyed by a wave of goodwill, the studio has now formally confirmed that the episodic series will return for season 2, further exploring the intricate and indeed interwoven stories of the Forrester clan. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Telltale CEO and Co-Founder Kevin Bruner touched base with the road so far, along with teasing some of the exciting events that await in the series’ sophomore stint.
When we initially announced the series in 2013, we let everyone know this would be a multi-title, multi-year partnership with HBO. After this week’s finale, I’m pleased to officially confirm that there will be a second season of Telltale’s Game of Thrones series, and that it’s currently in development.

Ever since the humble release of its own rendition of The Walking Dead back in 2012, Telltale Games has become synonymous with powerful interactive storytelling, but it looks as though the studio’s next project will take that mantra one step further.
That’s because Lionsgate Entertainment, the studio behind such teen-oriented franchises as The Hunger Games and Divergent, has today announced plans to invest in Telltale ahead of a new partnership. Such an arrangement will see Lionsgate’s Jon Feltheimer join the studio’s board of directors.
In a statement provided to Entertainment Weekly, Telltale’s newly-appointed CEO Kevin Bruner touched upon the drive behind the new, genre-blending project, which bears some semblance to Microsoft’s Quantum Break in its amalgamation of choice-based gameplay and episodic TV content.

Lionsgate has announced that they have made a "significant investment" in the Telltale Games, the developer of the recent and acclaimed episodic games based on pre-existing properties like "The Walking Dead," "Borderlands," "Game of Thrones" and the comic "Fables" adaptation "The Wolf Among Us".
EW announced the news, saying the investment is part of Telltale's effort to produce original franchises including properties made in Telltale’s new "Super Show" model.
Telltale will be developing its first original IP as a Super Show - a combination of "one part of interactive playable content with one part of scripted television style content" according to Telltale CEO Kevin Bruner. Telltale Games took the opportunity this past weekend to offer some new details on their latest upcoming episodic adventure title, Tales from the Borderlands, at a gaming panel during SXSW 2014. The spinoff of Gearbox’s popular pair of traditional Borderlands games has been confirmed to take place chronologically after Borderlands 2, and will feature some unique narrative mechanics to help differentiate it from recent Telltale hits such as The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us.
To start, players will take control of two different characters, namely the con artist Fiona and Hyperion worker Rhys, who narrate the game from some point in the future, retelling the story’s events in their own ways that differ from each other’s recollections. It will be up to the player to determine which story is correct, or if neither character is telling the truth. Telltale co-founder Kevin Bruner drew comparisons to the Tim Burton...

Speaking to the members of the official forum, Telltale president Kevin Bruner explained that it has “been a struggle to get this episode out, for a variety of reasons” and that “we are very concerned about the long delay for this episode, but this is one of those occasions where several things conspired against us.”

It's a fun one, kids. While at Comic-Con, Telltale held a panel discussing the future of Season 2 of their hit episodic game The Walking Dead. Of course we were in attendance since DC has the magically ability to be in 1,000 places at once, so read on for the lowdown.
Building on what seems to be a (welcome) pattern in games, choices you've made in Season 1 and the recently released 400 Days Dlc will have somewhat of an impact on Season 2 (via your file save transfer), as Telltale's president Kevin Bruner confirms that some of these choices will import from Season 1 to Season 2. I realize 400 Days is somewhat of a standalone Dlc, but the fact that your gameplay in that Dlc Will have an impact is pretty fucking sweet.
The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman was on hand and said he's in the process of figuring out who (and If anyone) from...

Telltale Games seems to have a knack for choosing just the right property at just the right time to develop into an ongoing series, and The Wolf Among Us seems determined to prove that theory. Hot on the heels of The Walking Dead‘s success comes this prequel tale to the critically acclaimed Fables comic book line from Vertigo, yet despite the sales pitch being reminiscent of Telltale’s previous works there’s signs that changes are a-coming.
Set prior to the events of Fables, The Wolf Among Us puts the player in the shoes of Bigby Wolf, formerly “The Big Bad Wolf” and currently the hotheaded sheriff of Fabletown, the community around which the entire franchise revolves. Citizens of this town are the titular “Fables” and range from a cigarette-smoking pig, to a womanizing Prince Charming and a crafty espionage-inclined Cinderella.

Telltale Games’ executive producer Kevin Boyle and the studio’s co-founder Kevin Bruner have hinted that the second season of The Walking Dead might allow PlayStation 3 save files to transfer over to the upcoming PlayStation 4.
One of the most disappointing bits of news that Sony confirmed during their PlayStation 4 reveal last month, was that PS3 game saves would not be compatible with the PS4. While this would be little more than an inconvenience for most PS3 games played via the PlayStation Cloud on the next-gen console, it would be a deal breaker for future episodes of The Walking Dead, which are heavily tailored by player choice.
Speaking to IGN at the BAFTA Game Awards, Boyle suggested there might be good news on the question of PS3 game saves, saying:
“Season 2 will read what you did in Season 1 and that will tailor some of the things that happened in Season 2. They...
