Why Watch? Vilhelm is a former gun-runner who heads to England to start a new life. A new life that’s overcome by death when human beings become food for the dead. This horror short is done with a stellar voice over (if you can imagine such a thing), some stirring imagery, and a lot more suggestion than jump scare. It’s all atmosphere, and that atmosphere works like a hammer to the jawline. Also, there’s a cool seen involving a hammer and a jawline. What Will It Cost? Just seventeen minutes of your time. Does it get better any better than that? Check out Plague for yourself: Plague (2009) Directed By: Joseph Avery & Matt Simpson Written By: Matt Simpson Starring: Joseph Avery Trust us. You have time for more short films.

Film festivals have for many years been a staple of most serious film fans’ experience. They are a great way to see a host of obscure and hard to find films and to see them gloriously displayed on the big screen. A lot of film festivals though tend to show the same old thing despite their venue and location differences. However, in Atlanta, Ga, there is a truly inspired festival called The Buried Alive Film Festival which is scheduled for November 12 & 13 at the historic Plaza Theater.
Bigger and better than ever, this year’s Buried Alive Film Festival is being sponsored by Fangoria magazine and the forthcoming American Horrors TV show and will screen five features – four of them Southeast premieres – and over 30 stunning short films from around the world.
The 2010 event also marks the first Us festival appearance of multiple award-winning British filmmaker, Ashley Thorpe, the first Southeastern appearance...

Plague is a short film of fifteen minutes from the young director and writer Matt Simpson and Anthead Films, which is based in Perth, Australia. The film was funded completely on its own with volunteers offering their time as zombies, gun runners, human traffickers etc. In the film central character Vilhelm arrives in London as an illegal immigrant only to find the country overrun with a deadly virus (Anthead). A welcome addition to Film Friday, the entire Plague short feature is located below with a few more details on filming, cast and crew inside.

Right now, vampire horror is having its heyday. Everyone wants to be around the vampires; they’re the equivalent of the most popular kid on the block…the queen of the prom, the captain of the football team, that rock star you’re just dying to meet. If I were a zombie, I would be jealous. So today, it’s not vampires I’m writing about—it’s the undead, as seen in one of the most interesting short films I’ve viewed recently: Plague, directed by Matt Simpson and co-directed by and starring Joseph Avery.

Directors Matt Simpson and Joseph Luke Avery have just given us a look at their entire 17 minute zombie short, Plague. The film has been gaining some great attention since we posted the teaser trailer back in September and was officially selected for many fests including the NYC Horrorfestival and The Revenant film festival in Seattle.
When writing the script for Plague, Matt Simpson really wanted to develop a story that didn't follow the usual scenario of an unlikely group of people coming together and bonding amidst the chaos. "I really liked the idea of using a Refugee character, somebody outside of society," he told Revenant Magazine. And so, Plague follows Vilhelm, an illegal migrant and gun runner, who is trying to make a new beginning. When he arrives in London, The dead rise and consume the living. But, can Vilhelm escape the bloodbath?
We're really stoked to be able to...

Directed by newcomers Matt Simpson and Joseph Luke Avery, Plague is a 17 minute Pa zombie short shot in the UK and inspired by none other than Max Brooks' "World War Z." Based on the teaser, it looks like the story might revolve around a survivor's memories of what went down during a fast and bloody outbreak.
We immediately liked this teaser for its emotional, tight photography and great make-up FX and are looking forward to seeing more from it.
Check out the teaser after the break! Another great find from the Avery Mining Corp.
Embedded video stripped, see full HTML version.
