London-based sales agent MetFilm Sales has boarded feature documentary “Exposing Muybridge,” featuring Gary Oldman, about revolutionary photographer Eadweard Muybridge.
Muybridge (1830–1904) was an English photographer known for his groundbreaking work in photographic studies of motion who played a seminal role in motion picture history. His images of running horses transformed the camera into a machine of unmatched powers of perception and persuasion, and set the course for the birth of cinema. He was a complicated man whose personal story was imbued with ambition, success, loss, and even cold-blooded murder. He directly inspired numerous artists from Francis Bacon to David Hockney to Gary Oldman, who has made a passionate contribution to the documentary.
Directed by Marc Shaffer (“Broken Dreams: The Boeing 787”), the documentary had its world premiere at Doc NYC in 2021 and won best documentary screenplay at the Writer’s Guild of America Awards 2022. The film will have its market premiere at...

Exclusive: Ahead of its world premiere at Hot Docs, London-based MetFilm Sales has boarded worldwide sales rights to Set! directed by Scott Gawlik, segment producer on Emmy-nominated Netflix series A Little Help With Carol Burnett.
The film, which has a hint of Waiting For Guffman and Best In Show about it, sees a group of highly competitive table-setters vie for the ‘Best of Show’ ribbon at the annual Orange County Fair competition, often referred to as ‘The Olympics of Table Setting’. From taxidermied monkeys to table-reveal parties, eccentric personalities and old rivalries come to a head as contestants spend months preparing their tables only to be penalized by a misplaced dessert fork – fondly referred to as ‘forking yourself’. You can check out the amusing first trailer for the doc here.
Set! marks producer Gawlik’s directorial debut. His previous credits also include Dave Attell: Road Work and Todd Glass: Act Happy.

Picturehouse Entertainment has picked up U.K. distribution rights for the Sundance prize-winning documentary “The Reason I Jump” from MetFilm Sales.
Picturehouse’s Clare Binns and Paul Ridd and MetFilm’s Vesna Cudic negotiated the deal following the film’s world premiere at last month’s Sundance Film Festival, where it won the World Cinema Documentary Audience Award.
Directed by Jerry Rothwell (“How to Change the World”), the poetic doc tackles the experiences of non-speaking autistic people, using various formal techniques to evoke their different perspectives. The film is freely adapted from the eponymous best-selling book by Naoki Higashida that was later translated into English by novelist David Mitchell.
While the original book took the form of a questionnaire filled out by non-verbal interviewees, this film adaption evokes the participants’ lived experience via textured sound design and cinematography along with other lyrical approaches.
