Netflix’s director of adult animation, Mike Moon, is departing the streamer at the end of the month after four and a half years to pursue other opportunities.
Netflix had no statement on the matter.
Moon joined Netflix more than four and a half years ago to build and lead Netflix’s Adult Animation team. The animation veteran previously worked across animated Film and Series at Sony Pictures Animation, Disney Television Animation and Cartoon Network.
The exec expanded on the success of such titles as “BoJack Horseman,” “F is for Family” and “Big Mouth,” through offerings like the cult favorite “Inside Job” from Shion Takeuchi, the “Big Mouth” spinoff “Human Resources” from production house Brutus Pink and “The Midnight Gospel” from Pen Ward and Duncan Trussel.
Moon was instrumental in organizing overall deals with “Big Mouth’s” creative team Brutus Pink; Takeuchi; animator, writer and voice actor Alex Hirsch and production studio Titmouse.

Phil Rynda, whose official title is Netflix’s Director of Creative Leadership and Development for Original Animation, was let go this week, along with several of his staff, TheWrap can exclusively report and Netflix has confirmed. According to several creators who spoke to TheWrap, the Kids & Family space at Netflix Animation has changed. Series that benefited from great word-of-mouth and critical praise aren’t being renewed and several high-profile projects have been unceremoniously canceled, including the long-delayed adaptation of Jeff Smith’s beloved comic book series “Bone” (first announced back in 2019). Netflix, which just saw its stock plummet more than 30 after revealing a subscriber and revenue loss during its first-quarter earning report Tuesday, isn’t just in trouble on Wall Street. Titan Book has released Adventure Time: The Original Cartoon Title Cards Vol. 1 and it’s everything you would want from a title like that and more. It’s not just images form the show in a boring episode by episode page by page reveal, it has 52 full-color cards from seasons one and two of the series shown on beautiful pages filled with sketches, works in progress, revisions and final title card art.
The book takes readers on a visual guide of the title card development, with quotes from each episode and commentary from the artists (Pendleton Ward, Pat McHale, Nick Jennings, Phil Rynda, and Paul Linsley). We also hear from Adventure Time’s Creator and Executive Producer Pendleton Ward and Art Director Nick Jennings as they accompany each illustration.
