Madrid — Spain’s premier soccer organization, La Liga, held a high-profile presentation in Madrid on Tuesday evening for a new anthem as part of its “Latidos del futuro” (Heartbeats of the Future) program, which will be used for years to come as a soundtrack at each of its fixtures and during league TV programming, similar to UEFA’s now-iconic Champions League anthem.
Tuesday evening’s event was held at the Fundación Francisco Giner de los Ríos in downtown Madrid, where stars from the world of Spanish soccer, TV and music braved 100 degree plus temperatures and an exceedingly-rare daytime-rainstorm to mingle with club representatives from across the country and international press. Popular Spanish TV presenter Roberto Leal Mc’d the day’s festivities.
Most of the league’s high-profile teams are in the middle of their offseason tours outside of Spain, but videos were played of Spanish national team and Barcelona...

It's a well-known fact that Iberoamerican cinema, which includes Latin American, Spanish, and Portuguese productions, has had a prominent presence at the most important international film festivals for several years now and several films have been recognized at some of the most important film awards around the world. Colombia's "Embrace of the Serpent" earning the country's first-ever Oscar nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category and Argentina's "Wild Tales" taking home the 2016 BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in English Language are juts two examples of recent victories.
Acknowledging the need for a unified industry in the region and a platform for the Iberoamerican industry to honor and support its own productions, the Premios Platino of Iberoamerican Cinema were born three years ago. Each year the organizing committee selects a diverse group of nominees and invites members of the industry across the American continent and the Iberian peninsula to vote in order to select the winners. The ceremony takes place in a different country every year as a way to include all of the varied industries in the process and execution of the event.
This morning, after considering more than 150 films from a pool of over 800 theatrically releases productions, the final nominees were announced by a group of talented actors, including legendary Mexican-American thespian Edward James Olmos, and filmmakers led by CNN en Español's journalist Juan Carlos Arciniegas. Guatemala's Berlin-winning gem "Ixcanul" received 8 nominations, just as Colombia's Oscar-nominated "Embrace of the Serpent" did. These two gorgeously executed works center on indigenous stories and highlight the rich cultural heritage of Latin America. It's a pleasant surprise to see these two fantastic films get the most love.
Chile's "The Club" and Argentina's "The Clan," films by the two most prolific Pablos working in South America, Pablo Larrain and Pablo Trapero, received 6 nominations each. Larrain's dark tale about Catholic priests with questionable pasts was also nominated this year for a Golden Globe in the Best Foreign Language Film category. Perhaps one of the most surprising, yet well-deserved nominations, was the inclusion of Alonso Ruizpalacios among the Best Director nominees for his brilliant debut "Güeros."
Two films distributed by Pantelion received nomations: "600 Miles" and "Un Gallo con Muchos Huevos." Oscilloscope earned 10 mentions with properties "Ma Ma" and "Embrace of the Serpent." Kino Lorber's "Ixcanul, ""Güeros," and "The Pearl Button" also earned the art house distributor 10 nominations.
Regarding the quality of the films being produced in Iberoamerica Egeda's Elvi Cano said, “This has been an exceptional year for Iberoamerican Cinema, with 826 qualifying releases. Iberoamerican Cinema is alive, growing and stronger then ever.” Renowned journalist and host Juan Carlos Arciniegas added," These awards are starting a revolution and it's my dream, as an ambassador for Premios Platino, that these magnificent films that got nominated today to be seen by all our Iberoamerican audiences. I can't be more proud of what our filmmakers are doing today and if the public don't get to enjoy them, we won't be doing our job"

From the producer who brought you The Woman In Black and Let Me In comes the unnerving tale of The Quiet Ones. Tucked away in an estate outside of London, Professor Coupland along with a team of university students conduct an “experiment” on Jane Harper, a young girl who harbors unspeakable secrets. What dark forces they uncover are more terrifying than any of them expected.
This week Wamg sat down with Director John Pogue in a small roundtable to discuss sound design, the films inspiration, and being attached to the ‘Hammer’ brand. Check it out below.

What is a car race without music? A bunch of gears shifting and tires screeching, and while Nascar may prove that can certainly be entertaining, when you are watching a race on the big screen, you need the additional adrenaline only driving music can provide. Just like you naturally hit the gas a little harder when a good song comes on the radio, the action on screen is elevated when you pair it with music that makes you want to jump in your own car and hit that Nos button. The Fast and Furious franchise is known for its rap and rock tracks (and having its race crew populated with some of the artists behind these songs – shout out to you, Luda), but the score in these films is almost an unsung hero, keeping up the pulse in every scene whether our favorite characters are in, or out, of their cars. The...

At only twenty-eight years old, Spanish-born Lucas Vidal has not only over come a battle with cancer, mastered the ability to write orchestrations, instrument by instrument (all by hand), and honed his ping pong skills against director James McTeigue, he is also beginning to make a name for himself here in the states starting with his score for the upcoming film, The Raven. I had the opportunity to sit down with Vidal in his studio in Santa Monica and see just how this up-and-coming composer brought his ideas from the page to the screen. Vidal may be young, but his approach to composing is almost “old school” in the sense that he begins with tangible paper and pencil to actually write out his music rather than immediately going to the computer to begin and map things out. Vidal is a skilled piano player and treated me to seeing how he begins by creating the sheet music to...

Lucas Vidal may not be a name that you’re familiar with at the moment but I’d put money on the fact that it’s a name you’re going to hear a lot more from in the coming years.
Lucas Vidal is a 28 year old Spanish composer whose recent work includes Hollywood movies The Raven and The Cold Light of Day which stars the latest Superman, Henry Cavill and movie legend Bruce Willis (and is out tomorrow 6th April in the UK).
I got to sit down with Lucas yesterday to chat through how he got into making music for the movies, where his influences come from and what he wants to do next. It was an absolute pleasure chatting with him as we talked at length about the many of the challenges that he has faced with his music and with his health which he has overcome...

“Anderson leaves no doubt that he is one of the finest stylists to recently emerge in genre filmmaking.”
Vanishing On 7th Street
Directed by Brad Anderson
Written by Anthony Jaswinski
2010, USA
Having established himself as a talented director of cinematic terror with Session 9 and The Machinist, Brad Anderson once again carries his affection for old-fashioned thrillers with his latest film, Vanishing On 7th Street. Taking inspiration from a scenario you’d expect to see in classic TV shows such as The Twilight Zone or Outer Limits, Anderson conveys a refreshing approach to the overly familiar “sudden armageddon” conceit.
This apocalyptic thriller focuses on four survivors of a mysterious supernatural occurrence who after a global blackout, awaken to discover the majority of the population has disappeared. The small handful of survivors (Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton, John Leguizamo and Jacob Latimore) band together inside a desolate tavern struggling to survive as...

Director Brad Anderson’s Vanishing on 7th Street now offers a first look with new images and a cool poster. I haven’t heard of this film until the website just popped up for it. It seems pretty cool after watching the first look featurette (see embed below). The website is pretty cool as well, because you can play the eerie score from Lucas Vidal and watch a featurette – it’s just very well put together. For those of you who do not know who Brad Anderson is or what he has done, he has reached critical acclaim for films like The Machinist and Transsiberia. His films have varied from Sundance Film Festival audience favorites Next Stop Wonderland (1998) and Happy Accidents (2000) to darker films, such as Session 9 (2001). Anderson has also directed a number of television episodes. Most notably, in addition to having directed two episodes of The Wire, Anderson often directs episodes of Fringe.

We've seen images from Brad Anderson's new film Vanishing on 7th Street, and knew that it stars Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo. But we haven't known much about the film. Now there's a little set of behind the scenes interviews that give a few tiny details away, as well as a new poster and some other materials, including clips of much of the film's score, by Lucas Vidal. The official plot recap is as follows: A mysterious, seemingly global blackout causes countless populations to simply vanish, leaving only their clothes and possessions behind. A small handful of survivors band together in a dimly-lit tavern on 7th Street, struggling to combat the apocalyptic horror. Realizing they may in fact be the last people on earth, the darkness hones in on them alone. But what did John Leguizamo let slip, if anything, in the following statement in the Epk interviews?...
