“Don’t you trust me?” It’s a routine question from the man they call Boss, a ruthless character operating at the lower levels of the immigrant trade in Taiwan, adopted home of director Chiang Wei Liang. Nobody trusts Boss (Daniel Hong Yu-Hong), least of all his Thai sidekick Oom (Wanlop Rungkumjad). Perhaps because he is decent and reliable, Oom has been charged with keeping the other workers in their miserable hostel in order. It falls to him to explain why Boss’ own boss, the vile Brother Te, has failed to pay anybody their wages.
Fairly predictably, nobody trusts Oom, either. Oom works as a carer for disabled people whose families are too poor or too mean to pay professionals. If he is alone in a workplace, he is locked in. Like everyone else, he has surrendered his passport and never been paid. They are often hungry. Meals in the...

A searching and scattershot portrait of displacement that’s as likely to resonate with Jia Zhang-ke devotees as it is to mystify those who are new to his work, “Caught by the Tides” finds the Chinese auteur returning the most pivotal characters and locations that have defined his movies over the last two decades. Then again, perhaps it would be more accurate to say that he never left them.
Tracing the faintest contours of a scripted love story around the scaffolding of some documentary footage that Jia has collected over the course of 22 years, this elusive chimera of a film strains to literalize the delicate relationship between time and memory — a theme that has become increasingly central to the director’s work since the Three Gorges Dam was constructed in 2006 (see: “Still Life”), submerging 13 entire cities and forever displacing the millions of people who once lived in them. Here, even...

England in 1536, a time when King Henry VIII started beefing with the Catholic Church because divorce was a hard ask even for a King back then. Jokes aside, the age of Reformation brought a whole lot of changes to the country, and big and powerful monasteries got the worst end of the bargain. Based on C. J. Sansom’s series of epic historical fiction novels, Arthur Hughes is Matthew Shardlake, a king’s emissary who must ensure the dissolution of Saint Donatus.

Cromwell’s advisor Jack Barak suggests that an investigation must follow, and he seeks the hunchback lawyer Matthew Shardlake to go to Scarnsea and find out what happened to Singleton. In the last 5-10 years, the found footage format has shifted more from feature-length horror films to short analog horror projects and alternate reality games on TikTok and Twitter. The analog horror emphasizes the nostalgic yet uncanny feeling conveyed by the technology of decades past.
The Ar games, on the other hand, use modern smartphones to convey a Pov atmosphere no worse than the student filmmakers of The Blair Witch Project could do with professional and amateur cameras.
And yet, no movie makes you feel for the characters like a found-footage movie. And when you add to the formula a skillful and clever approach to production and cinematography, as well as no less intriguing elements of supernatural and folk horror to the story, the result can be one of the scariest and most uncomfortable movies you've ever seen.

Hulu has shared the trailer and key art for Shardlake, the new series based on the popular Tudor murder mystery novels by C.J. Sansom. The series premieres on Wednesday, May 1, on Hulu in the U.S., Star+ in Latin America, and Disney+ in select territories.
Drenched in mystery, suspense, and deception, this four-part drama, based on the first novel in C.J. Sansom’s book series, is an eerie whodunnit adventure set in 16th-century England during the dissolution of the monasteries.
Shardlake’s sheltered life as a lawyer is turned upside down when Cromwell instructs him to investigate the murder of one of his commissioners at a monastery in the remote town of Scarnsea. The commissioner was gathering evidence to close the monastery, and it is now imperative for Cromwell’s own political survival that Shardlake both solves the murder and closes the monastery.

Sebastian Stan is exploring roles beyond the shadow of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and making quite a good impression out of it. Also, it seems the actor has a newfound interest in the horror genre. Stan appeared in two horror movies recently, including Mimi Cave’s Fresh and his most recent A Different Man.
Sebastian Stan in A Different Man
Stan has tested his tolerance level for a role as well. While his appearance in horror movies is well adjacent to the actor, one horror movie frightened the MCU star. Jennifer Lawrence, who led the movie, also endured intense nightmares.

Darren Aronofsky is one of the Hollywood directors who has created a legacy by making some of the most disturbing movies, including Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, and Mother! Particularly, Mother! was frightening, and its disturbing elements were not exclusive to the audience.

Goldsmith has talked about his niece’s health, Prince Harry potentially returning to Firm, and slammed Meghan Markle, all within the first couple of episodes. Here’s what Goldsmith about the “drama” he claims the Duchess of Sussex created and how she tried to “rewrite history.”

A feud between Tamra Judge of The Real Housewives of Orange County and Parvati Shallow from Survivor may pique interest in a reunion show for The Traitors 2.
Tamra and Parvati each appeared on the second season of The Traitors, with Parvati, Big Brother’s Dan Gheesling, and Rhoa’s Phaedra Parks Murdering Tamra in the game.
Parvati was eliminated three episodes later when she got Banished at a Roundtable. She was the second Traitor eliminated, as Dan was Banished right before her.
Many players from The Traitors have been doing interviews as the show continues rolling. And it’s those interviews where feuds and chaos have been coming up.
One feud is between Big Brother legends, as guest star Dr. Will Kirby went after his fellow alums and how they have played The Traitors.
And now Tamra hasn’t taken kindly to Parvati speaking about her during a recent podcast episode hosted by Johnny Bananas.

Paramore has announced that they “will not accept any acknowledgement or honor from the Tn House” for its Grammy wins after a lawmaker objected to similar honors for singer/songwriter Allison Russell.
The group accuse Tennessee’s Republican-led House of Representatives of “blatant racism” after a lawmaker paused a resolution honoring Black singer-songwriter Russell’s recent Grammy win.
The House Republican Caucus Chair who objected to the resolution honoring Russell, Rep. Jeremy Faison (R-Tenn.), claimed “The resolution wasn’t blocked” in a statement.
“When any member has a question about an item on the consent calendar, it is customary to bump it so there can be a vote solely on that item,” he said. “As a member of leadership, I had several members come to me with questions about the individual, which made it appropriate for us to press pause on that particular resolution.”
Paramore won two Grammys at the 2024 awards ceremony earlier this month.

Paramore singer Hayley Williams has called out the transparent display of racism shown by the Tennessee House of Representatives in blocking a resolution honoring fellow Grammy winner Allison Russell while allowing a similar resolution honoring her band to proceed.
In a statement to The Tennessean, Williams blasted the “blatant racism of our state leadership” while commenting on Republican Caucus Chair Jeremy Faison’s objection.
“For those that don’t know, Allison Russell is an incredibly talented musician and songwriter. Her music spans genres with strong ties to the Folk/Americana scene,” Williams said. “You might have seen her on the Grammy stage performing with the great Joni Mitchell. Oh, she is also Black. She’s a brilliant Black woman.”
Williams continued, “The blatant racism of our state leadership is embarrassing and cruel. Myself, as well as Paramore, will continue to encourage young people to show up to vote with equality in mind.

It’s the battle of the TV Cromwells! On BBC One later this year, Mark Rylance returns in the role of Henry VIII’s right hand man in series two of Wolf Hall, adapted from Dame Hilary Mantel’s acclaimed novels. But before then, Sean Bean will play Thomas Cromwell in Disney+ British historical crime mystery Shardlake.
(Incidentally, if Bean wanted to dispel his reputation for playing characters who meet sticky, early ends, then his agent may want to get their head in a history book before forwarding the next script…)
Thomas Cromwell is a supporting role in Shardlake, a new four-part series adapted from the first in C.J Sansom’s successful mystery novels about Matthew Shardlake, a 16th century lawyer born with what would now be understood as scoliosis, and who investigates murder mysteries for the Crown.

Cirie Fields made a name for herself during four appearances on Survivor.
After winning the first season of The Traitors USA, Cirie took a shot at winning Big Brother. Her experience was not a fond one.
Cirie was very open about not enjoying the 100-day season of Big Brother 25. But has it also stuck with her?
Cirie acted miserable on the Big Brother live feeds as the days ticked off the calendar. She talked to herself often and noted that she wanted people to leave her alone.
In comparison, Cirie’s seasons of Survivor were 39 days. Her stint on The Traitors was even shorter, as they filmed it in a few weeks. Big Brother was a different beast altogether.
This underscores how Cirie is the perfect person to ask about the difficulties of each show.

Dan Gheesling was eliminated on the latest episode of The Traitors 2.
Several players clocked the Big Brother 10 winner early in the season. They then voted him out at the Roundtable on Episode 6.
It was the second straight week that a Big Brother alum was Banished, as Janelle Pierzina was eliminated previously.
This means no Big Brother people are left for when the castle guests come across Dr. Will Kirby during an upcoming episode.
Now that Dan is out of the game, he can speak freely about his time in Scotland. He also has some ideas for future seasons.
One idea Dan has shared is who he thinks should make the jump from Big Brother to The Traitors next.
Who from Big Brother should be on The Traitors 3?
Having played Big Brother twice and now being experienced on The Traitors, Dan was the perfect person to ask about fellow alums who should go to Scotland.

A Big Brother winner, a Survivor fan-favorite, and a star of Squid Game: The Challenge teamed up to help a Chicago animal shelter.
Austin Li Coon from Survivor 45, Jag Bains from Big Brother 25, and Trey Plutnicki from Squid Game: The Challenge Season 1 filmed the experience.
Jag won BB25, Austin was the runner-up on the recent season of Survivor, and Trey appeared on the reality show version of Squid Game with his mom.
It’s always fun to see reality TV stars giving back in this fashion, as it brings positive attention to places in need.
Jag, his brother, and two fellow Big Brother alums recently helped a family by purchasing many Christmas presents for their kids in Washington state.
Jag appears to enjoy giving back after winning $750,000 on the Summer 2023 season of Big Brother, and we are here for it.

Midway through the fifth episode of “The Traitors” Season 2, host Alan Cumming made good on his promise to increase the number of cast members when he welcomed back one iconic villain from the first season. “This game started with one player missing,” he teased in his trademark Scottish accent. Warning: this item contains spoilers from Episode 5, “A Killer Move,” so read at your own risk!
Shocking everyone (including viewers at home), Kate Chastain returned to the castle in epic style during the January 25 episode and immediately promised to “f*** up some s***.” The “Below Deck” star had a memorable run during “The Traitors” Season 1 when she made it to fifth place, often sparring with “Big Brother’s” Rachel Reilly along the way. “Well, I’m back. Did you miss me?” she asked the audience coyly.

Actor Shia Labeouf converted to Catholicism after filming Abel Ferrara‘s Padre Pio. The biographical movie follows the first free election in Italy after World War I and delves into the spiritual struggles of Padre Pio, a priest.
Inspired by the story, Labeouf has become Catholic and is considering becoming a deacon “sometime in the future,” according to the actor’s sponsor, Brother Alexander Rodriguez, in an interview with Catholic News Agency.
Rodriguez said Labeouf had “just spontaneously said, ‘I want to become a deacon,’ and he still feels that way.”
Labeouf was confirmed on New Year’s Eve during a Mass celebrated by Capuchin Franciscan friars. Bishop Robert Barron of Winona-Rochester, Minnesota, confirmed him.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, Barron shared the news that Labeof had been “fully received into the Church.” Then, he quoted St. Augustine of Hippo.
The Capuchin Franciscans from the Western American Province also shared a statement on Facebook.

Rachel Dratch used to be the ultimate "Oh, her!" comedian — the type of face and voice you'd always recognize, but whose name you might forget. Well, that didn't last long, because she was so memorable in tiny parts like "Southern Woman" ("Martin & Orloff") and "Female Mc" ("Winter Passing") at the outset of her career that she quickly grew into a beloved household name.
We know and love her now for her long tenure on "Saturday Night Live," where she helped create enduring characters like Debbie Downer, and in memorable roles in films like "Sisters," "Click," and "Just Go With It." Since she made her screen debut, Dratch has amassed an enormous 125 screen credits, and that's just counting individual projects, not episodes of TV, which would stretch into the multiple hundreds.
Those early years, where she was fighting for recognition with ounce inch of her comedic prowess, are well worth revisiting.

A New Yorker article published last month suggested that comedian Hasan Minhaj had fabricated experiences of racism.
On Thursday, Minhaj responded with a 20-minute video explanation on social media.
In the article, Minhaj admitted he had embellished stories in the past to achieve a deeper “emotional truth.”
As The New Yorker puts it, “Minhaj has elided or concocted other details in his stories, often to place himself more squarely at the center of the action.”
“With everything that’s happening in the world, I’m aware even talking about this now feels so trivial,” he said. “But being accused of ‘faking racism’ is not trivial. It’s very serious, and it demands an explanation.”
“I want to answer the biggest question that’s probably on your mind: Is Hasan Minhaj secretly a psycho?” he continued. “Underneath all that pomp, is Hasan Minhaj just a con artist who uses fake racism...

Hasan Minhaj Addresses 'New Yorker' Article Amid Claims of Lying in Comedy Specials, Author Responds
Hasan Minhaj is speaking out.
The 38-year-old comedian and TV host shared a video on Thursday (October 26), in which he addressed allegations that he lied and/or embellished stories told in past comedy stand-up specials, as explored in a New Yorker article.
“Every story in my style is built around a seed of truth. My comedy Arnold Palmer is 70% emotional truth — this happened — and then 30% hyperbole, exaggeration, fiction,” he’s quoted as saying in the article.
Keep reading to find out more…In the new video, he says the profile, written by Clare Malone, has “omissions and factual errors” that “misrepresented my life story, so I wanted to give people the context and materials I provided The New Yorker with full transparency.”
The New Yorker issued a response, which the author shared on X: “Hasan Minhaj confirms in this video that he selectively presents information and embellishes to make a point: exactly what we reported.

The October 19 episode of “Big Brother 25” will end with one contestant being eliminated and becoming the second juror of the season. Not-so-secret Head of Household Jag Bains initially nominated Felicia Cannon and Blue Kim for eviction. However, Jag and Blue later won the two Veto medallions and will likely both use them on Felicia and Blue, respectively, which opens a backdoor possibility for the showmance duo of Cameron Hardin and America Lopez.
Gold Derby users already think they know who’s going home on Thursday night. According to our Week 11 predictions, Cory has leading 63/100 odds to be evicted. Blue comes in second place at 3/1 odds, followed by Felicia at 25/1 odds and America at 50/1 odds. Do you agree with our readers’ picks? There’s still time to make your predictions before our predictions center closes at 5:00 p.m. Pt on October 19.

The steady upward trajectory of 27-year-old YouTube star Drew Michael Scott’s career — he uses his middle name to distinguish himself from the similarly named Property Brother — is no accident.
Neither is the fact that Desenio, the buzzy Sweden-based e-commerce wall art brand beloved of millennials and Gen Z-ers in over 35 countries, tapped the online home design personality for a partnership to launch their expansion into the US. The 12-print collection, inspired by Scott’s love of vintage, launched at the end of September; prints range from $20 to $55.
With 1.1 million followers on Instagram, 1.4 million on TikTok, and 1.68 million on YouTube (where he launched his career at age 12), it’s clear Scott, who posts as Lone Fox Home, has highly-sought-after demographics on speed dial.
He’s been capturing eyeballs since uploading his first clip on YouTube not long after receiving a scrapbooking machine for Christmas. His rigorous schedule — he’d post...

With Cameron on the block and about to go out the door again, it’s shaping up to be a chill week in the “Big Brother 25” house.
Well, “chill” as in there’s a slim chance of a vote-flip since everyone wants Cam out. He’s certainly not helping matters by persisntently interrogating everyone in that condescending way that he does. He spent all Tuesday doing just that trying to save his game and cause some more chaos. And while he has been somewhat successful in spreading paranoia (exposing Matt and Jag), everyone’s just kind of fed up him. America was so curt with him that he walked out, calling her incorrigible. Later, he held Bowie hostage to question her over the backdoor. She stood firm and told him that she’d heard things about him from others, didn’t like that he said he would take her to...

Cirie Fields claims she will ‘never, ever, ever’ return for a ‘Big Brother’ All-Stars season [Watch]
Earlier this week in the “Big Brother 25” house, reality TV legend Cirie Fields — who, we’ll remind you, has played “Survivor” a whopping four times — claimed she’s forever done with “Bb” after her first season wraps up in November. “I think about the people who come back two or three times,” said her housemate Felicia Cannon, referring to former “Big Brother” contestants who return for various All-Stars seasons. Cirie replied matter-of-factly that she’ll “never” return to the house. And in case that wasn’t strong enough, she then added, “I’m never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever … And it’s on tape.”
