A series adaptation of “Gattaca” is in development at Showtime, Variety has learned from sources.
Exact plot details on the series are still under wraps, but sources say that Alex Gansa is attached to serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Gansa’s partner Howard Gordon also executive producing. They co-created the show with Craig Borten, who also executive produces. Sony Pictures Television will produce, with Gansa and Gordon currently under an overall deal at independent studio. Sources stress that deals for the project are not yet closed.
Showtime and Sony declined to comment.
This is not the first time that a series adaptation of “Gattaca” has been attempted. In 2009, it was reported that Sony Pictures Television was developing their own police procedural version of the film, though that project ultimately did not go forward.

Under the deal, Erivo will develop and produce television projects through her newly formed production company, Edith’s Daughter. Edith’s Daughter will focus on projects that express the beauty in the stories and people who are often overlooked and underrepresented. For the second year in a row the Oscars have nominated only white actors in their four main acting categories, sparking backlash and, as a result, inciting the Academy to announce new changes to tackle its “diversity problem”.
Amidst another year of #OscarsSoWhite trending on Twitter, however, the fact that 2015 has been an exceptionally strong year for women has been largely overlooked. Three of this year’s best picture nominees (Brooklyn, Room, Mad Max: Fury Road) are female-centric and feature strong female protagonists in the center of the action. In recent times, light-hearted comedies such as We’re the Millers and Horrible Bosses have emphasized Jennifer Aniston’s more comedic side, though there’s no question that the former Friends actress has captured our attention with a turn in Daniel Barnz’s acclaimed and melancholic drama, Cake.
And while we don’t expect Aniston’s latest role to venture quite so far into the human psyche, the actress will soon be calling upon her dramatic chops once more for 20th Century Fox’s real-life sports drama, The Fixer. Deadline has learned that Aniston has sealed a deal to topline the feature as Denise White, a real-life Miss USA contestant who became one of the best sports managers in the business when she closed the book on her time as a beauty model. Fox 2000 has acquired "The Fixer," a film starring Jennifer Aniston as former Miss USA contestant Denise White who rose to the top of the male-dominated world of professional sports management.
"Dallas Buyers Club" screenwriter Melisa Wallack created the pitch for the project which the studio acquired, along with White's life rights and a Men's Journal article "The Woman Who Bails Out The NFL's Bad Boys".
White became famous for establishing herself as a unflagging defender of her high-profile clients when their public images were in serious jeopardy.
There has been very early preliminary talks about James Gray possibly directing, but that seems too early to call. Aniston, Kristin Hahn, Steve Barnett and Bernie Goldmann will produce through Echo Films.

"Do you know what it's like to live forever?" 'Yesterday' movie: Leleti Khumalo and Lihle Mvelase. 'Yesterday' movie review: Fantastic central performance in South African AIDS drama To date, nowhere has the AIDS pandemic been felt more strongly than in Sub-Saharan Africa, home to approximately 10 percent of the world's population and two-thirds of the planet's 30-35 million AIDS cases. In the past thirty years, it is estimated that more than 20 million Sub-Saharan Africans have died from complications of the disease.* Even today, drug cocktails that are relatively accessible in other parts of the globe are still beyond the means of the vast majority of Africans. Writer-director Darrell Roodt's South African drama Yesterday is set in this catastrophic scenario. The film depicts the effects of AIDS in the life of a young Zulu woman who contracts HIV from her husband. Although Roodt's narrative maintains its focus on the plight of one particular individual, the (for non-Zulus) quirkily named Yesterday represents millions of other women,...

After helping Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto to Oscar success with Dallas Buyers Club, director Jean-Marc Vallee is back in gong season with this year’s Wild, starring Reese Witherspoon. And he’s already looking ahead to more potential awards bait, entering negotiations to direct the long-developing Janis Joplin biopic with Amy Adams in the lead.Joplin’s storied life and music career has been a fascination for filmmakers for years: at one point there were competing projects warbling their way through development. And in its time, the Joplin biopic has attracted the likes of Lee Daniels, Catherine Hardwicke and Fernando Meirelles, with Renée Zellweger seriously interested in the lead.Adams, of course, has the singing ability and has proven her acting chops, so she seems like a good fit. Jean-Marc Vallee ("Dallas Buyers Club," "Wild") is in talks to direct Amy Adams in the long-in-development biopic about musician Janis Joplin.
Joplin began recording songs in 1964 before breaking out three years later as the lead singer of Big Brother and the Holding Company. Dying of a drug overdose in 1970 at the age of 27, Joplin remains one of the most iconic American female recording artists of her era.
Adams has been attached to play the late singer for several years, but Vallee is freshly attached and replaces the previously rumored Lee Daniels at the helm.
Vallee is also bringing along his "Dallas Buyers Club" screenwriters Craig Borten and Melisa Wallack to pen a new draft of Ron Terry and Theresa Kounin-Terry's script.
Nathan Ross will produce and filming begins next Summer in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Today’s news isn’t exactly fresh, as Jean-Marc Vallee’s interest in helming a Janis Joplin biopic has been kicking around for some time. The Wild helmer spoke out months ago concerning the project he had assembled with Amy Adams in the lead as the infamous singer. Now, however, Deadline claims that it’s absolutely going ahead.
In the past, the untitled biopic had both Fernando Meirelles and Lee Daniels attached to direct from a script by Ron and Theresa Kounin-Terry. With Vallee the third in line to bring Adams’ long-awaited dream of portraying Joplin (she’s been involved in development for years) to the big screen, he’s bringing in familiar faces to help re-shape the existing script. Patrick Radden Keefe's New Yorker story "The Hunt for El Chapo" is a terrifying, bizarre, and occasionally funny look at modern drug trafficking. Delving into the lavish world of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, the leader of Mexico’s Sinaloa cartel, Keefe finds a quirky character pulling strings for a murderous bunch who love their Instagram. The DEA manhunt for Loera, that ended this past February, lasted a decade. The best kingpins can live a life of luxury and still avert paramilitary. Loera was the best of the best. Those are the types that get movies made about their lives. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Universal has picked up the rights to "El Chapo," for its "Lone Survivor" director Peter Berg to helm. After that gritty military war film earned more than franchise wannabe "Battleship," the studio is in a position to let Berg do whatever the heck he wants. He’ll...

Production has officially begun on The Last Witch Hunter, a new fantasy action flick from The Crazies director Breck Eisner with Fast & Furious franchise star Vin Diesel in the lead. And because the action star likes to keep his fans updated on his projects, he's just revealed the first photo from the production, showing off his immortal witch hunter character Kaulder. And as the caption with the photo indicates, this image shows the title character at some point in the 13th century, which means he's been around for awhile once the action picks up in modern day New York City. So that should be a rather unique sight to see. Look! Here's the first photo from Breck Eisner's The Last Witch Hunter from Vin Diesel's Facebook: The Last Witch Hunter is directed by Breck Eisner (The Crazies) and written by Melisa Wallack (Dallas Buyers Club, Meet Bill) and...

The Last Witch Hunter has been cooking in the cauldron for years and now it’s really starting to heat up. Last month we reported that Elijah Wood had joined a cast that includes Michael Caine, Vin Diesel, and Rose Leslie, and now German actress Julie Engelbrecht has been cast as the film’s villain, the Witch Queen.
Deadline reports the signing of Julie Engelbrecht to the Lionsgate/Summit fantasy action film that follows a witch hunter who is the last of his kind (Diesel) and spends his time hunting witches in New York City. But when the Witch Queen (Engelbrecht) seeks to acquire a relic that will befall a plague upon humanity, the witch hunter must team with another witch (Leslie) in order to save mankind from imminent doom. The Last Witch Hunter marks Julie Engelbrecht’s (Before The Fall, Rasmus and Johanna, The Red Baron) American movie debut.

Then, Diesel revealed that Oscar winner Michael Caine (Hannah and Her Sisters) had boarded the project. Now, ahead of filming getting under way within a month, the pic has added The Lord of the Rings alum Elijah Wood to its cast.
