“House of the Dragon” is asking viewers to pick a side in Season 2: Rhaenyra’s black faction or Alicent’s green team?
HBO dropped two unique trailers Thursday for Season 2, which premieres on June 16. One trailer focuses on Rhaenrya, Prince Daemon and their forces on Dragonstone, and the other is centered on the King’s Landing team of Alicent, her father Otto and her children King Aegon and Prince Aemond. Taking place 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” Season 2 of “House of the Dragon” will officially mark the start of the Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen civil war.
In the wake of the Season 1 finale, in which Aemond murders Rhaenyra’s son Lucerys and his dragon, war is imminent in Westeros. The blacks and the greens are both gathering their forces, dragons and new allies to face off in a bloody, fiery battle to the death.

After six seasons and 53 Emmy nominations, including seven for Outstanding Drama Series, Better Call Saul has left us without a single win.
The critically acclaimed Breaking Bad prequel was nominated for seven Emmys tonight, including Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor for Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman, Supporting Actress for Rhea Seehorn as Kim Wexler, as well as Picture Editing, Short Form Comedy, Drama or Variety Series, Sound Mixing and two nominations in the Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series category for the “Point and Shoot” episode and series finale, “Saul Gone”, but came up empty for all.
The series somehow, despite its acclaim, never matched the awards success of the mothership series, which won 16 Emmys out of 58 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, four Lead Actor wins for Bryan Cranston, three for Aaron Paul in the supporting actor category and one for Anna Gunn for supporting actress.

It has become a running record that “Better Call Saul” has yet to win a single Emmy Award from its now 53 nominations. But the AMC legal crime drama has seven last chances this year to nab a long-awaited and deserved trophy for the second half of its stellar final season, which aired last summer. Read on for a closer look at “Better Call Saul’s” final seven nominations.
While the “Breaking Bad” prequel has been hit-or-miss in a lot of other main categories in the past, it has kept a slot in the Best Drama Series category its entire run. This year, half of the lineup is a whole new crop of shows and with nomination tallies, “Better Call Saul” is in the same realm as Netflix’s former recipient “The Crown” with six and freshman series “Andor” on Disney+ and “House of the Dragon” on HBO with eight. From the majestic-but-aged environs inhabited by the British royals Netflix’s in “The Crown” and the decadent sun-drenched luxury of the San Domenico Palace resort in Taormina, Sicily, in HBO’s “The White Lotus” to the foreboding Ontario wilderness where a girls’ soccer team is stranded in Showtime’s “Yellowjackets,” the locations used in this year’s Emmy-nominated dramas loom so large they can be viewed as characters unto themselves that interact with the performers and help shape the narrative.
It’s especially true of the role Albuquerque, N.M., plays in AMC’s “Better Call Saul.” There’s no telling if the series would even exist if creator Vince Gilligan had gotten his way back in the mid-2000s and the studio suits at Sony agreed to let him use Riverside, Calif., as the setting for its predecessor “Breaking Bad” (2008-2013), which established the “Saul” characters and their dramatic universe.

Better Call Saul‘s final season marks the conclusion of executive producer Melissa Bernstein’s 15-year journey that began with Breaking Bad‘s pilot shoot in 2007. The celebrated AMC drama about the rise and fall of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) paved the way for the Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman-led (Bob Odenkirk) prequel-sequel series Better Call Saul and the Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul)-centric sequel movie El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019).
Considering that Breaking Bad narrowly survived the 2007-08 WGA strike with perennial low ratings until a late series Netflix bump, Bernstein remains astonished that Vince Gilligan’s mayhem-filled show went on to spawn what could be the most well-crafted shared universe to date. “It just feels like lightning in a bottle that lasted a really long time,” says Bernstein. “We’ve all pinched ourselves into bruising.”

In a virtual appearance today at Deadline’s Contenders TV, Better Call Saul‘s Bob Odenkirk reflected on the opportunity he had to work with screen legend Carol Burnett over the course of the Breaking Bad prequel’s final season.
“She’s just a great actress — completely connected, completely grounded, utterly with it. With somebody who’s a legend like that, someone who’s older, you worry if you’re going to have to work around them a little — and not at all,” the two-time Emmy winner shared. “She was utterly present, ready to rip it up. She knew her lines, she knew her part so well…It was a beautiful performance. She must get nominated now, come on.”

AMC, the network behind The Walking Dead (and its many spin-offs) and the upcoming Anne Rice-inspired shows Interview with the Vampire and The Mayfair Witches, has now opened a writers room for a series called Seconds, which Deadline hears is a “radical reimagining” of the 1960s sci-fi horror story. Seconds originated with a novel written by David Ely (pick up a copy Here), and in 1966 Ely’s story was brought to the screen with a film that was directed by John Frankenheimer and stars Rock Hudson. You can watch the film Seconds, which is in the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry selection, at This Link.
AMC’s take on Seconds is coming to us from creator / executive producer / showrunner Mark Lafferty, who worked as a writer and supervising producer on the AMC show Halt and Catch Fire. Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein, who were also executive producers on Halt and Catch Fire,...

Exclusive: AMC Networks has identified its next two strong series contenders. The company is opening writers’ rooms for Seconds, a radical reimagining of the cult classic with a female lead at its center, and psychological horror story The Devil In Silver, envisioned as the first installment in a potential anthology franchise.
The projects both hail from creative auspices behind cult AMC drama Halt and Catch Fire and are part of AMC Networks’ focus on producing premium content targeting adults for AMC+, some of it with a genre bent, which is the case with the two new horror-themed prospects. They are being developed under AMC Networks’ established “scripts-to-series” model, which involves opening writers’ rooms to develop prospective shows, including generating multiple scripts, for straight-to-series consideration. The two projects, for which AMC commissioned writers rooms last year, Invitation to a Bonfire and Demascus, both went to series.

Gilligan and Gould, speaking on the show’s final virtual TCA panel, said that they have no plans to add another show to the AMC shared universe, although cautioned “never say never”.

Better Call Saul is almost at its conclusion, but for the stars of the Breaking Bad prequel, the end actually brings a new beginning of sorts and some low-key truths.
“I discovered that Saul is a much easier character to play than Jimmy,” Bob Odenkirk says of the now-iconic sleazy and shameless Albuquerque lawyer Saul Goodman versus the small-time scam artist he once was. “The last couple episodes, he becomes a much richer character again,” he added during Deadline’s Contenders Television: The Nominees event. “He’s no longer hiding behind that façade, and he’s actually very much confronting the demons inside him in the last four episodes of the season.”

[This story contains spoilers for “Nippy,” the July 25 episode of Better Call Saul.]
It’s been nearly nine years since Michelle MacLaren directed the brutal “To’hajiilee” episode of Breaking Bad, the fourth-to-last hour of the Emmy-winning drama.
Apparently, you can’t have a preantepenultimate episode in this world without MacLaren, who returns with this week’s “Nippy.” This is MacLaren’s third Saul episode, following “Mijo” in the first season and “Breathe” in season four, and it’s part of a homestretch that welcomes a string of beloved family members back behind the camera.
After three straight episodes driven by major character deaths and decisions, “Nippy” wildly changes gears for a full installment in the black-and-white Nebraska world of Gene Takovic, the Cinnabon-managing alter ego to Bob Odenkirk’s Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman. Jumping us forward to the events after Breaking Bad, “Nippy” continues a storyline that had previously been reserved for pre-credit openings to earlier seasons.

After 13 years, the story of Lalo is now complete.
During “Better Call Saul,” Saul Goodman’s (Bob Odenkirk) debut episode on Breaking Bad, the criminal lawyer yelled the name “Lalo” in sheer terror, and ever since then, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul fans have wondered who Lalo is, what happened to him and why Saul blamed Ignacio (Michael Mando) for something the latter seemingly did to Lalo. Eventually, on Better Call Saul season four’s “Coushatta,” writer Gordon Smith finally introduced Tony Dalton as Lalo, and the charismatic nephew of Hector Salamanca (Mark Margolis) was instantly a force to be reckoned with, especially for fellow drug lord Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) and his long-running blood feud with the Salamanca family.

AMC has released the final trailer for the second part of the sixth season of “Better Call Saul,” the critically acclaimed “Breaking Bad” prequel series starring Bob Odenkirk.
The trailer continues AMC’s trend of advertising the final episodes with cryptic black-and-white footage, leaving fans few images to grasp onto in their predictions of how the story will conclude. Fred Neil’s “Little Bit of Rain” sets the mood of a farewell.
“Let justice be done till the heavens fall,” Odenkirk’s Saul Goodman aka Jimmy McGill utters at the conclusion of the trailer.
The first part of Season 6, which aired this spring, saw Jimmy and his wife and fellow lawyer Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) successfully execute an elaborate scheme to sabotage the career of their former boss Howard Hamlin (Patrick Fabian). The two only had a brief moment to celebrate the win, however, before Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton), a...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched the sixth episode of “Better Call Saul” Season 6, titled “Axe and Grind.”
Giancarlo Esposito didn’t appear in the latest episode of “Better Call Saul,” but that was because he was busy behind the camera directing this crucial episode, the penultimate entry in Season 6’s first half.
“Axe and Grind” covered a lot of ground, taking place in Albuquerque, Germany, a long highway to Santa Fe and even a flashback to Kim Wexler’s (Rhea Seehorn) childhood. The episode started and ended with Kim, who hits her heartbreaking “moment of doom,” according to Esposito. In the final moments, Kim is driving to Santa Fe to interview for a major job with a legal foundation, but Saul (Bob Odenkirk) frantically calls her and warns her that their “D-Day” scam on Howard Hamlin (Patrick Fabian) has hit a snag. Instead of delaying their plot any longer,...
