For the roughly 100 workers who have recently joined Condé Nast’s “central editorial group,” work has taken a bizarre turn in the past few months.
In November, 94 Condé Union staffers at the glamorous media company behind Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair and Bon Appétit — across editorial, video and audience development — learned that they had been earmarked to be laid off as part of a companywide cost-cutting push. The Barefoot Contessa Ina Garten announced her forthcoming memoir’s release date in perhaps the most her way possible. No, not with a giant cocktail how-to or a roast chicken. Rather, something akin to her relaxed take on cooking and entertaining. The 76-year-old author and longtime cooking show host simply updated her social media bio with the date.
Garten’s memoir is set to debut in October 2024
Mark the calendar, Barefoot Contessa fans. Garten, who has been a frequent face on Food Network since 2002, finally unveiled when her memoir is hitting shelves.
In early February 2024, Garten quietly updated her Instagram bio to include her memoir’s release date, writing: “Memoir coming out October 1st 2024.”
So, instead of a Barefoot Contessa cookbook hitting shelves in the fall as has been known to happen since the late ‘90s, Garten has a different type of book on offer. Through her memoir, she’s...

Heather McMahan found herself an absolutely yes. The comedian, who also hosts the popular Absolutely Not podcast on the Dear Media network, will debut her first stand-up special on Netflix Oct. 17. Titled Son I Never Had, the hourlong show is based on the material from her facetiously-titled The Farewell Tour, which ran 94 dates throughout North America in 2021 and 2022.
McMahan draws from her own personal life — both hardships, like the grief of losing her father days after he received a pancreatic cancer diagnosis, and lighter fare like an ill-advised childhood bowl cut — to find the humor in widely universal themes like grief and body image. The special offers an introductory version of her life story to new audiences while also dropping Easter eggs for her longtime fans and listeners. “I want to paint a picture of what baby Heather looked like, okay?” starts one joke. “I’d always wear my dad...

When Ina Garten, the celebrated host of Food Network’s Barefoot Contessa, steps into the kitchen, culinary magic happens. But what transpires when she dons her apron not in her classic Hamptons home, but in a bustling fire station?

Prepare to embark on this captivating gastronomic adventure that goes beyond Garten’s regular fare and ventures into the realm of sloppy joes and beef barley soup.

Ina Garten first rose to fame through her Food Network TV show, Barefoot Contessa. Garten’s comforting tone and heartwarming recipes helped her amass a substantial audience — plus, her gorgeous home out in Hamptons section of Long Island certainly had us all wishing to be in her shoes. And her adorable love for her husband Jeffrey helped make her even more relatable.
It feels like it’s been a while since Garten has graced our television screens. Barefoot Contessa hasn’t produced new episodes since 2021, and anyone who still has cable knows that Food Network doesn’t show Garten’s TV shows as often as we’d like. However, Garten recently announced that she’s working on new episodes for the cooking network.

John Oliver was back at it again on his HBO Max late-night show Last Week Tonight and is testing Disney lawyers introducing Mickey Mouse as his new mascot.
The last segment of his show focused on intellectual property reminding viewers that Disney was about to lose their copyright on the original Mickey Mouse character from Steamboat Willie after 95 years.
“Mickey Mouse will soon be public property in the U.S. which is a big deal because this copyright is a closely guarded corporate treasure,” Oliver said.
Oliver mentioned that Disney had been aggressive in guarding the copyright of Mickey and was successful in passing a bill in the early 2000s that extended their protection. The host also pointed out that Disney has some registered trademarks that include the original Steamboat Willie Mickey, speculating that as the reason they included that version in the Walt Disney Animation Studios opening logo.

Nancy Meyers is still searching for a new home for her film after parting ways with Netflix over budget concerns. But in the meantime, the director of rom-com classics like 2006’s The Holiday and Something’s Gotta Give has dropped some hints on Instagram, revealing details about her movie, confirming the title, and sharing its origin.
Deadline reported that Scarlett Johansson, Owen Wilson, Penelope Cruz and Michael Fassbender were in talks to star, but that the proposed Netflix budget — which sources say was coming in around $130 million — was causing issues. Sources say that while the studio was fine with $130 million, Meyers was fighting for $150 million, with $80 million of that going to above-the-line costs.
The film is titled Paris Paramount, which we were first to tell you about in April 2022. It tells the story of an above-the-line filmmaking duo who reunite (begrudgingly) on set after falling in and out of love with each other.

There’s nothing like a hearty meal in the depths of winter to lift the spirits amid what, for many, can be cold, gray days. Enter Ina Garten’s Winter Slaw. I served it to loved ones as part of a cozy meal at home. Rather than being a yummy, lightler addition to the rest of the food on the menu, it got decidedly negative reviews. Ahead, details on my experience making Garten’s Winter Slaw and why I may never make it again.

It all sounded maybe deceptively easy when I first read through the instructions.

It might sound intimidating to kitchen newbies and even seasoned home cooks, but Garten swore in a Feb. 6 Instagram post it’s “absolutely delicious and so easy to prepare on a weeknight.”
It takes 90 minutes to make (via Food Network). But, as Garten said, there’s not much to preparing it. Four steps and 10 ingredients are all it takes.

“Late Night” loves its recurring comedy bits like the popular “A Closer Look” and “Day Drinking,” in which host Seth Meyers gets plastered while the sun’s still out with celebrities like Lizzo, Rihanna, and Ina Garten — but it’s hard to beat the simple genius of Meyers politely asking Fred Armisen, his buddy of 20 years, about launching his first celebrity fragrance or Armisen’s plan to come up with a competing Academy Awards show.
Unofficially referred to as “It’s Time to Ask Fred a Question,” it’s a brief improv exercise on steroids: When Armisen is on the show, serving as its occasional bandleader, Meyers asks the drummer an absurd question (“I heard you also made a bid for Twitter?”) They’re ones Armisen doesn’t know and can’t possibly anticipate: Seth comes up with the questions by himself, often at the last minute while he’s...
