- He was 2005 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Scenic Design for "The Drowsy Chaperone" at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
- He was awarded the 2006 Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Award for Set Design (Large Theatre) for "The Drowsy Chaperone" at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
- He won the 2006 Antoinette Perry (Tony) Award for Best Scenic Design in a Musical for "The Drowsy Chaperone" on Broadway in New York City. He has also received three Tony nominations for best set design of a play (Radio Golf, Gem of the Ocean, Jitney).
- He was awarded the 2000 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Distinguished Scenic Design for "Jitney" at the Mark Taper Forum Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
