There are movies that make you want one thing more than anything else: for whatever's happening on the screen to end as quickly as possible.
Reddit users selected popular movies that made them want just that.
1. Saltburn, 2023
In 2020, Emerald Fennell made her debut with the tragicomedy Promising Young Woman. The movie won her an Academy Award for Original Screenplay and gave endless opportunities to create her next project – Saltburn, a rip-off of The Talented Mr. Ripley.
The structure of the movie begins to fall apart in the middle as Oliver "skillfully" (actually clumsily) begins to work his way to the top. Many viewers positioned the movie as one of the most scandalous of the year – Saltburn undoubtedly shocks with some scenes (we feel sorry for every cemetery worker who's seen it), but seasoned viewers were tired of its extreme predictability.
2. Avatar, 2009

Sue Kroll, head of global marketing for Amazon MGM Studios, has worked on the launch of every kind of movie under the sun, from blockbusters such as “Harry Potter” and “The Matrix” franchises to streaming originals such as the recent reboot of “Road House” and the buzzy new rom-com “The Idea of You.”
The discipline of marketing has changed dramatically in recent years, with more digital tools and metrics at her disposal. But one crucial element that hasn’t changed, as Kroll discussed during her keynote conversation at Variety‘s Entertainment Marketing Summit presented by Deloitte, is the need to go with your gut instinct at times on what’s right for a given property.
“You can feel when something feels right,” Kroll said during her April 24 session at the daylong conference held at the Beverly Hilton. At the same time, there’s a feedback loop happening 24/7 around movies and...

Eve and Villanelle’s cat-and-mouse game is back on. Killing Eveis now streaming on Netflix in the US, which means you can watch (or rewatch) all four seasons of the daring British spy thriller — that’s 32 episodes total — from the very beginning.

It stars Sandra Oh as Eve, an intelligent, outside-the-box field operative tasked with bringing down the sociopathic assassin Villanelle, played by Jodie Comer. In a very unsettled drama Emmy field, one of the few ostensible locks this year is Elizabeth Debicki. With 4/1 odds, she is the runaway favorite to take home the Best Drama Supporting Actress Emmy for her turn as Princess Diana on “The Crown,” which would make the Netflix series the sixth show to deliver two different winners in the category.
Twelve shows have won drama supporting actress more than once. Of those, seven shows have had one person triumph repeatedly, including “Lou Grant” for Nancy Marchand, who won a record four times, and most recently “Ozark” for three-time champ Julia Garner. The five shows that saw the wealth spread among its cast members are “St. Elsewhere”, “The West Wing”, “Hill Street Blues”, “The Practice” and “thirtysomething”. No show has had more than two cast members win the award.
Interestingly, Marchand (1980-82; her first win was in ’78), Roberts (1983), Woodard (1984), Thomas (1985), Bartlett...

Tom Ripley has become a genre in himself. In 1955, author Patricia Highsmith published “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” a viciously smart psychological thriller featuring an all-time villain at its center. A small-time con artist who slithers him way into the social circle of a rich playboy he develops a consuming obsession with. Both charming and horrifying, with a thirst for wealth that’s equally as relatable as it is repulsive, Ripley burns on the page as an absolutely indelible character.
Unsurprisingly, Ripley has become the type of juicy role that actors kill to play. And that’s lead to three genuinely great adaptations of the novel. The book first found its way onto screen as “Purple Noon,” starring a prime Alain Delon as Tom Ripley. And then, of course, there’s the acclaimed 1999 adaptation from director Anthony Minghella, featuring an all-star cast led by Matt Damon as the title character with Jude Law,...

Olivia Wilde, Margot Robbie and “X-Men” producer Simon Kinberg are joining forces for a feature adaptation of “Avengelyne,” a comic book character from “Deadpool” co-creator Rob Liefeld.
Wilde, whose filmmaking credits include “Booksmart” and “Don’t Worry Darling,” is attached to direct. Robbie’s company LuckyChap and her partners Tom Ackerley and Josie McNamara are producing. Kinberg, a writer and producer of “X-Men” tentpoles, will also produce the film.
The project doesn’t have a home yet, so the creative team will try to sell the film to studios and streamers in the coming weeks. It's murder on the dancefloor but you better not kill the groove, and the best way to avoid that is by showing your love and appreciation for Felix Catton and Oliver Quick. The latest feature from Academy Award-winning writer/director Emerald Fennell, "Saltburn," is a movie she made specifically to arouse and disturb audiences and one that people couldn't stop talking about throughout 2023. Even more, people haven't stopped making gifts and fandom merch in honor of the film. This is typically a surefire sign that one of the bigger-named companies needs to step in with some officially licensed memorabilia, and Funko has heard the siren call of the "Saltburn" army. Funko is releasing a new collection of Pop! vinyl figures of Jacob Elordi's Felix and Barry Keoghan's Oliver, both dressed in the outfits worn for Oliver's Midsummer Night's Dream-themed birthday party.

“I have so many people to thank,” Nolan said during his acceptance speech. “The most incredible cast, Matt Damon, Robert, Emily, Florence, just so many others, all at the top of their game, led by the incredible Cillian Murphy… a crew, some of whom have been awarded tonight. I can’t say enough about the incredible crew that we got together on this film. Thank you to Chuck Roven for putting the book in my hands… The incredible Emma Thomas, producer of all our films and all of our children. I love you. To the academy, just to say movies are just a little bit over 100 years old. I mean, imagine being there 100 years into painting or theater. We don’t know where this incredible journey is going from here. But to...

Streamers narrowly avoided getting shut out at the 2024 Oscars: Netflix came away with just one trophy and Apple left empty-handed, after they garnered a total of 32 nominations.
Netflix collected its one win for Wes Anderson’s “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” an adaptation of a Roald Dahl story, in the live action short film category. The 40-minute film, with a cast that includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, and Ralph Fiennes, is the first Oscar for Anderson (who wasn’t in attendance to receive the award).

Heading into Sunday’s 96th Academy Awards, Netflix led all studios and platforms with 19 nominations across 11 films, including seven for Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro” — which was shut out. Apple had picked up 13 nods, including 10 for Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which also drew a goose egg.
Since 2017, Netflix has now won 23 Oscars in all.

The 2024 Oscar nominees for Best Director are Jonathan Glazer (“The Zone of Interest”), Yorgos Lanthimos (“Poor Things”), Christopher Nolan (“Oppenheimer”), Martin Scorsese (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), and Justine Triet (“Anatomy of a Fall”). Our odds currently show that Nolan (3/1) is most likely to win, followed in order by Lanthimos (4/1), Glazer (9/2), Triet (9/2), and Scorsese (9/2).
Three of these five filmmakers have been nominated at least once before, with Scorsese standing out as the only previous victor in the group. Now on his 10th bid (only two behind category record holder William Wyler), he initially triumphed on his sixth for “The Departed” (2007), which is also the only Best Picture winner in his filmography. He earned his remaining notices for “Raging Bull” (1981), “The Last Temptation of Christ” (1989), “Goodfellas” (1991), “Gangs of New York” (2003), “The Aviator” (2005), “Hugo” (2012), “The Wolf of Wall Street” (2014), and “The Irishman” (2020).

Most Social Capital Lost in 10 Minutes: Jo Koy Jo Koy
Proverbial gun to head, few awards show aficionados could name a more embarrassing monologue than Jo Koy’s turn at the 2024 Golden Globes — a slow-motion car wreck that will live in infamy for the crickets and cringes he drew from his A-list audience. Fellow comics have pointed to the emcee’s absence of established rapport with the crowd as reason for his undoing, but the fact remains that his big moment at bat was so bad, it even broke Taylor Swift’s iron curtain of composure.
Most Categorically Confusing Categories: Adapted vs. Original Screenplay Barbie and Leonard Bernstein
The Film Academy left many scratching their heads when Barbie, a script based on a doll with no backstory, was deemed an adaptation in the Oscar race — while Maestro, a biopic drawing on the well-documented life of Leonard Bernstein, was permitted to compete as an original work.

“Anatomy of a Fall” is the clear favorite to win Best Original Screenplay this year but nominees “The Holdovers,” “Past Lives,” “Maestro,” and “May December” are all hoping to spoil the party. But is “Anatomy of a Fall’s” status as frontrunner as solid as it seems? It’s won a bunch of precursor awards, sure, but what about the academy?
What movies do they like best in this category? Let’s take a look at the last 10 winners of Best Original Screenplay to see what they can tell us about the academy’s tastes in this category, and how that affects “Anatomy of a Fall” and this year’s nominees.

BFI London Film Festival has announced their festival dates for 2024 and we’ve already marked our calendars.
It might only be March, but it’s never too late to start looking forward to all the amazing film festivals heading our way this year.
The biggest UK festival, without a doubt, is the BFI London Film Festival. The BFI has today announced this year’s festival dates, so get those diaries ready.
The BFI London Film Festival (or Lff) will take over London from 9th – 20th October. We can expect the usual amount of glitz and glamour once again as Hollywood stars walk the red carpets in Central London, where it usually rains that time of year. Nothing quite like seeing Hollywood’s finest battling gusts of wind while posing for photos.
In recent years, Lff has made a point to extend the festival outside of the capital. We’ve written...

Gender-balanced productions might as well set up base camp on their plateau.
The annual ReFrame report from the Sundance Institute and Women in Film found that 29 of last year’s top 100 films achieved gender-balanced productions — just like in 2020, 2021, and 2022. The years leading up to 2020 had seen steady annual growth, and 2020 itself marked an all-time high. But then it became “Groundhog Day” up in here.
The top 2023 films that achieved gender balance include Oscar-nominated movies like Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” Pixar’s “Elemental,” Todd Haynes’ “May December,” Celine Song’s “Past Lives,” Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn,” Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla,” and even “Scream 6.”
The ReFrame Stamp is awarded to films that hire women or non-binary people in at least 50 percent of key roles both above and below the line. The study is based on IMDbPro data. ReFrame proactively studies the top 100 films each year, and then probably about another 100 throughout the year,...

Jacob Elordi’s role in Emerald Fennell‘s Saltburn landed him a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 2024. The twisted yet captivating film was a highly anticipated follow-up to Fennell’s Oscar-winning movie Promising Young Woman. While her directorial debut tackled difficult subject matters, Saltburn has garnered even more attention for its shocking themes and hyper-sexual nature. Despite being snubbed by the Oscars, the film was recognized by the BAFTAs and has undeniably become one of the most talked-about movies of the year. The cast members of Saltburn have also experienced a significant boost in fame, with rising star Jacob Elordi in...

Carey Mulligan has more than lived up to her promise. The English actor was an obvious, stand-out talent early in her career, whether she was playing one of the Bennett sisters in Joe Wright’s “Pride & Prejudice” adaptation or in an acclaimed one-episode appearance in BBC’s “Doctor Who.” When 2009 saw her receive a Best Actress nomination for her role in the acclaimed drama “An Education,” it seemed to mark the emergence of a great new young actor.
And since that breakthrough, Mulligan has only continued to go from strength to strength. An actor’s actor with the ability to fully embody the complicated women she’s often cast as, Mulligan consistently picks interesting, juicy parts, in films as varied as “Never Let Me Go,” “Drive,” “Shame,” “Far from the Madding Crowd,” and “Mudbound.” As she’s gotten a little older and aged out of the young ingenue parts...

Peter Bradshaw surveys the new wave of film-makers arriving at the film’s stately location, channelling Barry Keoghan’s Big Energy and capturing their granny’s reaction to the bathwater slurp
So often, the radical cheek of TikTokers makes mainstream media look pretty dull, and so it has proved once again, with the explosion of uproarious Saltburn TikToks. These are reportedly causing deep pain to Mr Charles Stopford Sackville, owner of the 700-year-old Drayton House in Northamptonshire, which plays the stately home in question, through which Barry Keoghan finally does his groovy nude dance to Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Murder on the Dancefloor.
Stopford Sackville got a generous fee for letting them film there and knows the parents of director Emerald Fennell, but is still now miffed at TikTokers killing his groove by straying off the public footpath close to his estate, insolently filming and telling other commoners how to get there and gawp.

“I never envisaged the amount of interest there would be,” says the owner of the stately home used in Emerald Fennell’s saucy streaming hit, Saltburn.
In a leafy tract of Northamptonshire countryside, the owner of a vast stately home shudders behind his curtains as the sound of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Murder On The Dancefloor drifts in from the garden.
It’s a curious situation triggered by Emerald Fennell’s drama-thriller Saltburn, which, thanks in no small part to some of its saucier moments, has emerged as one of the most talked-about films of 2023. And as the film’s fame has spread, so too has interest in the huge stately home in which the bulk of its drama takes place.
Called Saltburn in the film, the 700 year-old pile is in reality Drayton House, located in the village of Lowick near the A14.

While the house in Saltburn may seem compelling, its real-life owner Charles Stopford Sackville would like fans of Emerald Fennell’s hit film to stop trespassing on his property. Sackville, who owns Drayton House, told the Mail on Sunday that the success of Saltburn has caused an influx of tourists and influencers appearing on the stately house’s grounds.
“I never envisaged the amount of interest there would be,” Sackville said. “It’s quite weird. I don’t take it as flattering. How would you feel if people were taking pictures outside your house?...

A recent BBC interview with Andrew Scott went viral for all the wrong reasons, as a red carpet reporter at the BAFTA Awards prompted the “All of Us Strangers” star to walk away in discomfort after repeatedly asking him to speak about Barry Keoghan’s nude scene in “Saltburn.” Given that Scott had no involvement in the Emerald Fennell film, many felt that pressing the openly gay actor to discuss Keoghan’s prosthetic genitalia was an inappropriate line of questioning.
In the clip, which can be watched below, the reporter asks a visibly uncomfortable Scott multiple questions about Keoghan’s nude scene, before admitting that his questions might have been “too much” when Scott walks away. The viral moment added fuel to the ongoing debate about the ethics of asking stars inappropriate questions in red carpet settings.

BBC News released a detailed statement about that viral red carpet interview where a reporter continually pressed Andrew Scott about Barry Keoghan’s nudity in Saltburn.
For those who missed it (video below), the BBC’s Colin Paterson, covering the BAFTAs red carpet, pressed Scott — who was supporting his film All of Us Strangers — about how well he knew his fellow Irish thespian Keoghan, what he thought of the latter’s naked dance scene in Saltburn, and whether he thought Keoghan used a prosthetic penis in the scene, demanding, “How well do you know him?”
Scott is openly gay, has not appeared in any films with Keoghan, looked highly uncomfortable and walked off during the interview. The interview went viral, with many finding the line of questioning inappropriate, possibly homophobic and all around awkward as hell.

The BBC has acknowledged that a line of questioning to Andrew Scott over the notorious nudity scene in Saltburn was “misjudged.”
The broadcaster said today it had received complaints from people who felt a question asked to the All of Us Strangers star – who does not appear in Saltburn – was “inappropriate and homophobic” during Sunday’s BAFTA red carpet coverage.
In the scene, Saltburn lead Barry Keoghan is seen dancing naked at the end of the movie.
“Our question to Andrew Scott was meant to be a light hearted reflection of the discussion around the scene and was not intended to cause offence,” said the BBC, adding that Saltburn writer and director, Emerald Fennell, and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, whose song ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ was used in the sequence, were also asked about it.
“We do, however, accept that the specific question asked to Andrew Scott was misjudged,” the BBC went on today.

According to reports, John Wick spin-off film Ballerina has been given a delay from June of this year all the way into June, 2025.
Ballerina is set to be the latest action-packed instalment in the John Wick franchise, following the hugely popular four mainline movies that star Keanu Reeves as the fearsome hitman. As it stands though, Ballerina reportedly isn’t action-packed enough and has been delayed for a year so that further shooting can take place to insert more fisticuffs.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources at Lionsgate have confirmed that additional photography will be taking place to bolster the film’s action sequences. Interestingly, the report also states that the director of the John Wick films, Chad Stahelski, will be on set to supervise the shooting of these additional sequences alongside Len Wiseman, Ballerina's original director.

The possibility of these Irish stars sharing the screen together would be a pleasant surprise for fans. It seems like Keoghan, too, wants to see it happen.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor is gearing up to tour around North America for the first time and adding more cities for fans to see her perform “Murder on the Dance Floor” live.
The British singer’s song is featured in the final scene of Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn, where Barry Keoghan’s Oliver dances naked around the manor. After the scene went viral, the song, co-written by Ellis-Bextor and Gregg Alexander, also went viral on social media.
“Murder on the Dance Floor” was originally released in 2001, but it never charted on the Billboard Hot 100 until now, peaking at 51 recently.
Ellis-Bextor recently made an appearance on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon where she performed the viral hit and the star is now embarking on a North America tour.
The artist announced her first-ever live show in NYC, set to take place on June 6 at Webster Hall, and the date quickly sold out.

Andrew Scott has stolen everyone’s hearts as the ‘Hot Priest’ from Fleabag or as ‘James Moriarty’ from Sherlock. His recent film All of Us Strangers has been receiving a lot of love during Awards season, with him being nominated for a Best Actor Golden Globe. The film also earned six nominations at the BAFTAs, which took place earlier this week.
While Scott was not nominated for an award at the BAFTAs and was there to support his co-star Paul Mescal, he was reportedly extremely uncomfortable with a question asked by a BBC interviewer. When the interviewer asked an inappropriate question about Saltburn star Barry Keoghan, Scott reportedly walked away uncomfortably from the interview.

Actor Andrew Scott recently joined the 77th BAFTA Awards ceremony in support of his 2023 romantic fantasy film All of Us Strangers, which received six nominations, including Outstanding British Film and Best Director. However, he encountered a rough start to the evening as he faced uncomfortable questioning regarding Barry Keoghan’s performance in Saltburn. Directed by Emerald Fennell, the film has been in conversations due to its unsettling and explicit scenes, particularly Keoghan’s fully nude dance scene.

A BBC journalist conducting an interview with Scott at the 2024 BAFTA Awards seemed pretty fixated on obtaining the actor’s perspective on Keoghan’s nude scenes in the film and repeatedly asked him some uncomfortable questions about it, leading the Irish actor to abruptly end the interview midway and leave the scene.

The Oscar-frontrunning “Maestro” was the big winner at the 11th annual Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards (held February 18 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel). Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein opus took period/character makeup and special makeup effects. This puts “Maestro” in the Oscar driver’s seat (led by two-time winner Kazu Hiro) against “Poor Things,” “Oppenheimer,” “Golda,” and “Society of the Snow.”
Two non-Oscar competitors, “Saltburn”and “Barbie,” split the other wins: Emerald Fennell’s psychological thriller grabbed both contemporary makeup and hairstyling, while Greta Gerwig’s billion-dollar blockbuster snagged period/character hairstyling.
TV winners, meanwhile, were divided among “The Idol” (contemporary makeup), “The Crown” (period/character makeup), “The Last of Us” (special makeup effects), “The Morning Show” (contemporary hairstyling), and “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” (period/character hairstyling).
As previously announced, Annette Bening (Best Actress nominee for “Nyad”) received the Distinguished Artisan Award, and Oscar- and Emmy-winning make-up...
