Element Pictures is coming off the back of yet another buzzy awards season with its absurdist comedy Poor Things, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, notching 11 Oscar nominations and coming home with four wins, including Best Actress for Emma Stone. But just when it feels like the company’s trajectory can’t get higher, the Irish-Anglo production, distribution and exhibition banner is hitting the Croisette this year with no less than three films in the Cannes official selection. Lanthimos’s Kinds of Kindness, which reunites him with his long-term writing partner Efthimis Fillipou and Poor Things stars Stone and Willem Dafoe, will compete for the Palme d’Or, while French actor Ariane Labed’s directorial debut September Says and I Am Not a Witch director Rungano Nyoni’s sophomore feature On Becoming A Guinea Fowl are both screening in the Un Certain Regard section.

For those keeping score, and we know Neon is, it’s four Palme d’Or victories for Neon, who bought “Anatomy of a Fall” out of last year’s Cannes Film Festival. The boutique shingle didn’t stop there, and also acquired “Robot Dreams” and “Perfect Days” as well. Netflix plunked down $11 million for “May December,” and the festival produced sales for other buzzy titles like “Jeanne du Barry” and “The Taste of Things.” All that, and with the specter of the writers strike hanging over it.
So what will sell big this year? Many of the titles in competition as part of this year’s Official Selection are up for grabs, even as Neon, A24, Mubi, and Searchlight are all arriving with at least one contender in the main race. We’ll be tracking everything that gets bought below throughout the festival and beyond.

Matt Damon would somewhat reunite with his Good Will Hunting and Ocean’s series co-star Casey Affleck in Oppenheimer. However, they would not share a scene together in Christopher Nolan’s historical epic. The two are set to star in an action-comedy-heist movie that brings them back to their native Boston in The Instigators. The heist film is co-written by Affleck, but will be directed by the Road House remake‘s Doug Liman. Affleck says, “The inspiration for this was definitely Midnight Run and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” He also stated that he’s always “wanted to do a buddy action comedy.”
Entertainment Weekly has the first look at The Instigators, which features images with the co-leads and their co-star Hong Chau, who recently worked with Damon in the critically and audience-panned Downsizing. The plot, according to EW says, “Damon costars as Rory, a desperate father who reluctantly...

The lineup for the 77th Cannes Film Festival has officially been unveiled. As of right now, 19 films will be competing for the prestigious top prize, the Palme d’Or. The festival will be running from May 14 through the closing ceremony on May 25 in the small town on the French Riviera. This year’s jury will be led by Greta Gerwig, fresh off of her success writing and directing “Barbie,” which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. The remaining members of the jury have yet to be announced.
Having an idea of a filmmaker’s history at the festival can sometimes help give us an insight as to who could be in the best position to take home the Palme. For example, two of this year’s entries come from filmmakers who have previously claimed the Palme. Another five are from directors who have won prizes in official...

When she’s not busting a move in the latest teaser trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos’s Kinds of Kindness, Emma Stone is adding an untitled Universal film to her Hollywood dance card. The Oscar-winning actress is in talks to join Brigsby Bear director Dave McCary for a forthcoming feature. McCary is in negotiations with Universal Pictures about helming the mysterious project. Stone and McCary tied the knot in 2020, making this union a couple’s venture.
Patrick Kang and Michael Levin, the supervising producers of NBC and Utv’s Young Rock, wrote the original spec screenplay for the untitled project. Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Dan Levine will produce via 21 Laps alongside Micheal H. Weber. Emma Stone, McCary, and Ali Herting could join the production effort through Fruit Tree.

It’ll soon be time to pack your tuxes and/or high heels and wonder “why the heck does it get so hot at 6:30 pm, just when I’m lining up for the 7:15 pm screening?” The eyes of the entertainment world will once again turn toward the French Riviera for the 77th Annual Cannes Film Festival.
The main slate announcement was made early Thursday morning, confirming many suspicions, and offering much excitement for hardcore cinephiles. For those with more mainstream tastes—and an eye toward what will still be in play come next year’s Oscars—here are some highlights.
Certainly, the biggest event screening will be the public’s first look at Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis,” a self-financed behemoth that he’s been dreaming about for decades. The director/vintner is a two-time winner of Cannes’s Palme D’Or—for “The Conversation” in 1974 and “Apocalypse Now...

Emma Stone, hot off her Best Actress Oscar-winning performance in Poor Things, reunites with that film’s writer/director Yorgos Lanthimos for Kinds of Kindness. The first teaser trailer doesn’t give away much of the plot, instead showing off clips of a fast car, a body being dragged in a hallway, a slap, a dance, and a German Shepherd. The only dialogue is a voice-over by Stone saying, “This is it. The moment of truth. Isn’t it wonderful?”
Lanthimos’ latest film also features Poor Things‘ Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley. Jesse Plemons, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer also star.

There’s a whole lot of slapping, dancing, freaking out, and reckless driving in the new teaser for Yorgos Lanthimos’ upcoming movie Kinds of Kindness, which is set to hit select theaters on June 21.
The new clip for the film doesn’t offer, well, anything in the way of plot, but it is a tantalizing look at the film’s absolutely stacked cast. Emma Stone is doing some seriously reckless driving, as is Jesse Pelmons, who’s also getting slapped in the face by Margaret Qualley. Set to the Eurythmics...

Poor Things stars Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe reunite with Yorgos Lanthimos for the first look at Kinds of Kindness.
A teaser for the “triptych fable,” previously titled And, gave fans a first look at the film, which in its official synopsis follows “a man without a choice who tries to take control of his life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.”

"This is it - the moment of truth." Searchlight Pictures has revealed an official teaser trailer for the next new Yorgos Lanthimos film titled Kinds of Kindness, ready for release this summer. Lanthimos filmed this with Emma Stone and an ensemble cast after shooting Poor Things but before that debuted last year. The Greek auteur is at it again! Here’s the first trailer for Kinds Of Kindness, Yorgos Lanthimos’ first film after Poor Things.
It’s only been a few weeks since Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things took home several Oscars, including Best Actress for Emma Stone. You’d think that the Greek director would like a little break, but there’s no rest for the wicked – or, more to the point, for Lanthimos either.
We reported a while back that Kinds Of Kindness, which seems to have been previously titled And, was set as Lanthimos’ next film and that it would take the form of an anthology. The film has changed its title to Kinds Of Kindness, and we’ve now got a very brief teaser trailer ahead of the film’s June release.
Take a look at the first Kinds Of Kindness trailer below.

It’s fun to think that when Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos were on the Oscar campaign trail during the early months of the year, they already had a new project under their belts. “Kinds of Kindness” marks the third straight feature collaboration between actress and director (and Searchlight Pictures) after “The Favourite” and “Poor Things,” both of which won their leading performers, Olivia Colman and Stone, Best Actress Oscars.
The first teaser for this new joint was released this morning and it’s one of those 46-second clips that tells you absolutely nothing but flashes a ton of cool imagery in your face. Set to a remixed version of “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)” by the Eurythmics, we see Stone zooming around in a purple muscle car (and dancing in an empty parking lot), a close-up of a dog in black and white, Jesse Plemons getting whapped across...

When director Yorgos Lanthimos and actress Emma Stone make a feature film together, Academy Award nominations follow. Their 2018 collaboration The Favourite was nominated in the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Production Design, Costume Design, Cinematography, and Editing categories, with supporting actresses Stone and Rachel Weisz also earning nominations and lead actress Olivia Colman taking home an Oscar for her performance. Their 2023 collaboration Poor Things racked up nominations in the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Original Score, Cinematography, Editing, and Supporting Actor (Mark Ruffalo) categories – and won Oscar gold for Makeup and Hairstyling, Production Design, Costume Design, and Stone’s performance in the lead role. Now a teaser trailer has arrived online for the latest Lanthimos / Stone team-up, a film called Kinds of Kindness (previously known as And), and you can check it out in the embed above.

If you were bowled over by Poor Things – or are a long-term Yorgos Lanthimos fan, who’s been on board for Dogtooth, The Lobster, The Killing Of A Sacred Deer and The Favourite – today’s your lucky day. Because the Greek director is moving incredibly quickly, and his follow-up to that Oscar-winning oddity is already in the can. Even for such a short look at the film, there’s plenty to unpack – not only that excellent needle-drop of ‘Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This’, and that punchy editing (including a perfectly-timed slap from Qualley). But notably,...

Things are slowly heating up for the release of Yorgos Lanthimos’ upcoming movie, Kinds of Kindness, which is set to be released on June 21, 2024 in theaters. This is the Greek director’s next project after the award-winning hit Poor Things starring Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe, both of whom are returning for Kinds of Kindness as well, continuing their successful collaboration with the Oscar-nominated filmmaker. Ahead of the movie’s release, Searchlight Pictures has just released the first official teaser trailer for the upcoming movie.

Lanthimos described the film as “a contemporary film, set in the US – three different stories, with four or five actors who play one part in each story,” confirming that Kinds of Kindness is going to be the first anthology movie in his career. The impressive cast assembled around Oscar-winner Emma Stone in Lanthimos’ next film “Kind of Kindness” includes Jesse Plemons (“Civil War,” “Killers of The Flower Moon”), Willem Dafoe (“Poor Things,” “The Lighthouse”), Margaret Qualley (“Drive-Away Dolls”), Hong Chau (“The Whale,” “The Menu”), Joe Alwyn (“The Favourite”), Mamoudou Athie (“Elemental,” “Jurassic World: Dominion”), and Hunter Schafer (“Cuckoo,” “Euphoria”).

Fans of Arthouse Emma Stone Sicko Cinema™, have I got good news for you. Coming off her second Oscar win, the "La La Land" star is currently in the midst of shooting what's sure to be a strange and twisted spin on the Western genre in the shape of Ari Aster's "Eddington." But before we lay our eyes on the "Midsommar" and "Beau Is Afraid" director's latest oddity, Stone herself will reunite with her "Poor Things" and "The Favourite" helmer Yorgos Lanthimos for a new project.
Titled "Kinds of Kindness," Stone and Lanthimos finished shooting their new film near the tail-end of 2022, which is the reason it's already good to go so soon after "Poor Things" once again stirred up the "Are Sex Scenes Necessary?" discourse. The movie sees Lanthimos directing from an original script he co-penned with his "Dogtooth," "The Lobster," and "The Killing of a Sacred Deer...

Yorgos Lanthimos is examining the kinds of cruelty in his latest film “Kinds of Kindness.”
The feature, which was originally titled “And”, marks Lanthimos’ eighth film and reunites the auteur with two-time Oscar winner Emma Stone following her recent “Poor Things” Best Actress win. Stone previously garnered her first Oscar after starring in Lanthimos’ “The Favourite.”
While the plot details for the Searchlight Pictures release remain elusive, we do know that “Kinds of Kindness” is an anthology film with three separate storylines that collide. Stone stars alongside her “Poor Things” co-stars Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley, plus Jesse Plemons, Hunter Schafer, Joe Alwyn, Hong Chau, and Mamoudou Athie.
“It’s great to be working again with Emma,” Lanthimos told The Guardian about the project. “It makes it so much easier to have someone there who trusts you so much, and who you trust so much.” The duo are next set...

Quickly following up last year’s Poor Things, we’ll be getting Yorgos Lanthimos’ next feature sooner than expected as Kinds of Kindness arrives this summer. Featuring a reunion with Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, and Joe Alwyn, with an ensemble also including Jesse Plemons, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer, the anthology feature presents three short stories in which the actors play different characters in each. Now, ahead of a June 21 release and likely Cannes Film Festival debut, Searchlight Pictures has unveiled the first trailer.
Here’s the synopsis: “Kinds Of Kindness is a triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.

The planet might be on fire, but at least Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos have found one another. The "La La Land" actor and "The Lobster" filmmaker didn't exactly read as an obvious pairing, yet they're already on their way to joining Hepburn-Cukor, Stewart-Hitchcock, and De Niro-Scorsese in the ranks of all-time great actor-director duos. After a couple of feature films ("The Favourite" and "Poor Things") and a short ("Bleat"), the one thing we can say for certain is that we'll never know precisely what these two are going to get up to next.
Speaking of which, we're only days removed from Stone's surprise Best Actress Oscar win for "Poor Things," yet we've already got a release date for her next collaboration with Lanthimos. The duo will return in just a few months with "Kinds of Kindness," a film that they shot back in late 2022 which was previously going by the (impressively Seo-unfriendly) title "And.

The next collaboration between “Poor Things” filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and his Oscar-winning star Emma Stone will be here sooner than expected.
On Thursday, Searchlight Films announced that “Kinds of Kindness,” an anthology film directed and co-written by Lanthimos and starring Stone, will debut in limited release on June 21. Searchlight is wasting no time getting the next Yorgos Lanthimos film out there.
Less than a week after “Poor Things” won four Academy Awards include Best Actress for Emma Stone, distributor Searchlight Pictures has announced the release date for his next film, “Kinds of Kindness“: It will open in theaters June 21, 2024. A limited release will kick off the launch for Lanthimos’ eighth feature film, with a wider nationwide opening to follow.
The June 21 release almost certainly means that “Kinds of Kindness” will be ready for Cannes 2024 — and will potentially be his first feature to premiere on the Croisette since 2017’s “The Killing of a Sacred Deer.” His past Oscar winners “The Favourite” and “Poor Things” both went the way of Venice. The 2024 Cannes Film Festival runs May 14 through May 25.
“Kinds of Kindness” is an anthology film with three separate storylines that collide, though plot details remain scarce so far.

Days after taking her second Best Actress Oscar for Poor Things, Emma Stone’s next movie with Yorgos Lanthimos, Kinds of Kindness, has set a theatrical release date of June 21 this summer. Searchlight just made the news official about their third feature project with Lanthimos after the Oscar winning The Favourite and Poor Things.
The Favourite and Poor Things launched in Q4 parts of the calendar; this is the first Searchlight Lanthimos release to go in summer, which raises speculation that this movie could go to Cannes. The last Lanthimos movie to go to Cannes was 2017’s The Killing of a Sacred Dear.

“Kinds of Kindness,” the next collaboration between director Yorgos Lanthimos and star Emma Stone, will debut in theaters this summer.
Searchlight, the indie studio that’s distributing the film, added it to the release calendar on June 21.
Though the plot remains under wraps, “Kinds of Kindness” is an anthology film that reunites Stone with her “Poor Things” co-stars Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley, as well as “The Favourite” actor Joe Alwyn. Jesse Plemons, Hong Chau, Hunter Schafer and Mamoudou Athie will round out the cast.
Lanthimos penned the screenplay with Efthimis Filippou, with whom he co-wrote the dark thrillers and absurdist comedies, “The Lobster,” “Killing of a Sacred Deer” and “Dogtooth.” The movie, originally titled “And,” was shot in New Orleans in late 2022.
“Kinds of Kindness” — developed and co-financed by Film4 — is the fifth collaboration between Stone and Lanthimos, who just reunited on “Poor Things,” a Frankenstein-esque fantasy comedy...
