When Nashville songwriter Abe Stoklasa died last week at 36, he left behind a catalog that frequently probed the dark corners of daily life. In many of his songs, love sucked, gainful work was elusive, and the choice between redemption and destruction was often decided by a single step. Even his Number One pop-country hit, Chris Lane’s seemingly innocuous “Fix,” was rife with foreboding references about addiction (in this case, to love): “I’ll make you feel invincible/I’m more than recreational” went one verse, while another alluded to a “Walter White high.

Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Zac Brown Band, and Mac MacAnally all took the stage at the 2023 CMA Awards to celebrate the music of Jimmy Buffett, who died earlier this year.
Chesney and MacAnally, a longtime member of Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band, kicked things off with a faithful acoustic rendition of the seafaring ballad “A Pirate Looks at Forty,” which Chesney also sang in a video tribute to Buffett that he posted shortly after the songwriter’s death in September. Today’s country artists love to namecheck icons like Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings in their songs and during interviews. But sonically, they owe their greatest debt to Jimmy Buffett, whose tropical vibes, beachy imagery, and ocean escapism has shaped the last two decades of mainstream country. Buffett died Friday at 76, leaving an undeniable legacy that is still heard in the songs of country radio and warrants future induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

They say “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it,” and most of the time that’s how Blake Shelton approaches the building of his team on “The Voice.” Blake’s bread and butter is country music and he brings its fans to the show’s audience in troves every season. Country artists have found significant success on “The Voice” because of Blake, so when he enters the season 22 finale on Monday and Tuesday with classic country vocalist Bryce Leatherwood in his arsenal, Blake will be operating firmly within his wheelhouse.

The Voice kicked off its live Season 22 run this week, putting a spotlight on its Top 16 performers, but only 13 are moving on in the competition following votes. Coaches Gwen Stefani, John Legend, Blake Shelton, and Camila Cabello only had their critiques to offer as the voting was left up to America. As favorites were selected, the bottom four were determined, putting fans on the spot to give an Instant Save to their favorite among them. Ultimately, Team Blake’s Bryce Leatherwood was the lucky performer chosen by America to stay, swaying them with his rendition of Billy Currington’s “Let Me Down Easy.” Others joining Leatherwood in the Top 13 are Team Blake’s Brayden Lape, bodie, Rowan Grace, Team Camila’s Devix, Eric Who, Morgan Myles, Team Gwen’s Justin Aaron, Alyssa Witrado, Kique, and Team Legend’s Kim Cruse, Omar Jose Cardona, and Parijita Bastola. That means Kate Kalvach,...

Country singer Billy Currington has emerged from wherever he goes for years at a time and dropped a surprise new album. The “People Are Crazy” singer’s seventh major-label release Intuition is out now and sees him tilting more toward the textures of Eighties synth-pop, dance music, and R&b.
Currington, whose most recent radio single was 2019’s “Details,” has never shied away from experimenting with different styles — “Must Be Doing Somethin’ Right” was sultry country-soul, “We Are Tonight” was an unabashedly U2-style arena-rock anthem, and “Pretty Good at...

Last week on “The Voice,” the knockout rounds commenced with two artists getting sent home: Casmè for Team John Legend and Ryan Berg for Team Gwen Stefani. That left 26 artists still in the running to win the Season 19 championship, with many more about to be eliminated during Monday’s two-hour episode. Gwen was the only coach to use her last save of the season (on country singer Ben Allen), which meant John, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton still had the power to swoop in and save an at-risk contestant before the all-important live shows. How did Night 2 of the knockouts play out, and what advice did mega mentor Usher give to the remaining artists?

Let's face it: Luke Bryan is a country crooner whose hits - including "Play It Again," Light It Up," and "This Is How We Roll" - are as appealing as his smile and charisma. And we'll be honest, this star's impressive net worth of $90 million is nothing to scoff at either. The singer has gone from purely country singer-songwriter to big-time star in the last couple years, helped by his stint as a judge on American Idol and endorsement deals that make him pop up everywhere. So let's take a look at how his whole net worth comes together.
The country star is estimated to be worth north of $90 million, thanks to his albums, tours, and of course that high-profile Idol judgeship. According to Forbes, Luke has so far made a whopping $42.5 million in 2019 alone. That makes him the highest-paid country star of 2019. Overall, he's ranked No. 78 among celebrities with...

Billy Currington strikes me as one of those individuals that loves the music but doesn’t let himself get so fully involved in the business, thereby kind of keeping him from the kind of fame and fortune that others have struck. That could be erroneous however since he’s been around for a while and has been trying to stay relevant and do what he can to enjoy what he does and still make a living with it. He’s won an award in his time and been nominated for several, but it would almost seem as though he came to the party

Here was an artist who, although leaning heavily on rock & roll, maintained a foothold in country, especially with his enlightened workingman lyricism. "It was one of those titles that's obviously a play on words and those historically have been a big part of country music," Hunt tells ETonline in this week's installment of Behind the Hit. "The bad thing about those titles is that most of them have been written."
News: 17 Reasons Sam Hunt Is Your New Favorite Country Star
While relaxing on his couch one night scanning emails on his phone, Hunt stumbled across a song called "Leave the Light On." At a quick glance, he mistakenly substituted "Light" with "Night."

With all the body-clinging dresses and slim-fitting tuxes, ever watch an awards show on TV and wonder, "What do these people eat?" Well, we do, too! So we asked the stars on the Cma Awards red carpet to share what they nibbled on in preparation for the big show. Here's what they told us: Lady A's Hillary Scott: "I had guacamole and cucumbers, but I've had so much coffee … I think that's what's getting me through." Lady A's Dave Haywood: "I went to Star Bagel in Sylvan Park and had a Starz Classic." [It's a sandwich on toasted sourdough with melted mozzarella, ham, salami, garlic butter, black olives, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and mustard]. Lady A's Charles Kelley: "Beef jerky and whiskey.

We would “Leave the Night On” on for Sam Hunt. You will too!
Forget Florida Georgia Line (and their number 1 album). Forget Keith Urban (and all those racy music videos he’s making). Your new favorite country star is Sam Hunt. And if he’s not already, he will be by the end of this post.
Actually, he might just be everyone’s new favorite musician – whether you like country music or not. "I am from the country, and I grew up mostly influenced by country music," Sam told Rolling Stone. "So by the definition I have, these are country songs, not pop songs. Even though there may be a pop element."
Watch: Kelly Clarkson’s gospel cover of T.Swift’s “Shake It Off”
This week, Sam released his first album, Montevallo. “I'm not trying to become a pop artist, and I'm not trying to make sure I stay a country artist,” he says. “I'm...

Sam Hunt is not your typical country star. At 6'4", this former University of Alabama at Birmingham quarterback and free agent for the Kansas City Chiefs, is changing country music completely. If you don't recognize Sam Hunt, you probably recognize the songs he's written: Kenny Chesney's "Come Over," Billy Currington's "We Are Tonight" and Keith Urban's "Cop Car." Sam's single, "Leave The Night On" surpassed 500,000 track sales making it Hunt's first certified Gold record as an artist. His debut album, Montevallo, drops today. With what seems like a quick rise to fame, there's still so much more to know about Sam. You might think Sam had always...

When Billy Currington first moved to Nashville in the early '90s, the underage singer from southeast Georgia snuck into a songwriter's night at Douglas Corner Cafe. "After the show I introduced myself to one of the writers, Marc Beeson," Currington recalled Wednesday at a Nashville party to celebrate his ninth career No. 1, "We Are Tonight." "I loved what he was singing and I told him that one day, if things worked out for me, I would love to cut one of his songs. Marc, I'm sorry it took so long but I'm glad it happened for us both!" So is Beeson,...

Sunday night we celebrated all the love that’s been found on this show with our special Bachelor Love Stories. I enjoyed looking back at some of these older seasons and reliving some great memories of people who have become very dear friends of mine. Jason really said it best when he said he doesn’t think of The Bachelor as a show, he thinks of it as a family. I couldn’t agree more, my friend. I look forward to seeing all of these friends and more next Sunday night as another beautiful couple, Sean and Catherine, get married live on ABC.

Juan Pablo is proving to be the most athletic ‘Bachelor’ ever! On the Jan. 20 episode, he took one of his dates bungee jumping off a bridge, and took the group date to a soccer game. However, the real games started between the ladies when he got a little too flirty with a little too many.
The Bachelor of course is bringing in the drama. Juan Pablo Galavis had to send home two more ladies on Jan. 20, but first he kissed quite a few of the ladies! It’s no surprise that they got pretty upset when he started doing it in front of the others — but didn’t they know that was coming?

Bachelor 2014 eliminated Lucy Aragon & Christy Hansen in episode 3 tonight. Tonight's show, kicked off with footage of Juan and Cassandra Ferguson's 1 on 1 date. They ended up, splishing and splashing in Long Beach,California, and appeared to have a great time. On the 2nd half of their date, Juan cooked Cassandra dinner. They had a long talk, coupled with some kissing action before Juan gave her an early rose. He was particularly concerned with not leading Cassandra on as he's sensitive to the fact that she has a child to get back to if things aren't going to work out. Next Juan took Nikki, Andi, Christy, Lucy, Sharleen, Kelly, Alli, Lauren, Danielle, Renee. Kat, Clare, and Elise to play soccer on their group date. It looked like they all had a blast. Then Juan chatted up and kissed a few of the girls with some 1 on 1 action at the after party before giving Nikki the early rose.

Time for the latest "Bachelor" episode. In case you missed it, Juan Pablo stepped in it a bit over the weekend when asked if there could ever be a gay bachelor on the ABC dating show. He has since apologized and obviously these episodes were filmed months ago, so let's enjoy the show now, but yeah -- that happened.
Cassandra's Date
Nikki is "level 15" ready to get out of the house and have a date, but she is not the lovely lady chosen for the first one-on-one. We're a little surprised Nikki didn't get one of the early one-on-ones but hopefully that will work in her favor -- sometimes the early ones are then forgotten about a bit because they don't get another one-on-one for a while. It can actually be a huge disadvantage to have an early solo date.
Anyway, it is also nice that Cassandra, one of the single moms,...

"The Bachelor" is in full swing and as such, Juan Pablo Galavis is making the rounds to do publicity. "Jimmy Kimmel Live" decided to have a little fun with the new "Bachelor," sending him out on the street to interview people about what they think of his reality dating show.
The video is above, and the funniest part is that a couple people are shown an actual picture of Juan Pablo by "The Bachelor" himself and still don't realize they are speaking with him, criticizing his v-neck T-shirt and waxed chest. Hee.
Below, we have some juicy details about next week's episode, which sees the ladies playing soccer on the group date and a private concert by country music star Billy Currington. Highlights from the episode include:
Cassandra gets the first one-on-one date, which is not a surprise after she had a bit of a meltdown this past week because she misses her young son,...

The state of Georgia has seen its share of celebrity crime over the last several days. Following Reese Witherspoon and hubby Jim Toth's arrest last week, Grammy-nominated country singer Billy Currington was detained on Thursday, according to TMZ. The handsome singer - who looked directly into the camera for his mug shot, unlike Witherspoon - was arrested and booked on charges of making terroristic threats and abusing an elderly person. The "Pretty Good at Drinking Beer" singer's bond was set at $27,000 and he is still in custody. The arrest reportedly stems from an April 15 incident in which a 70-year-old...

After a bizarre account from a 70-year-old man was related to law enforcement, Billy Currington was charged with making terroristic threats and abuse of an elderly person on Wednesday (April 24).
The story begins on April 15th when Charles Harvey Ferrelle asserts that he was giving two passengers a boat tour off of Georgia's Tybee Island when the country star began yelling at them from his property.
Upon returning to his dock, Ferrelle saw the 39-year-old singer in his own boat, which he deboarded and approached the elderly man's dock. According to the report, "the verbal abuse started again along with threats that he was going to f--k Mr Ferrelle up."
The next day, he left a message with the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police claiming he "feared for his life," and "If I hadn't gotten into my slip fast enough I believe he would have run me over."
A day after the charter captain called the police,...

Country singer Billy Currington is the latest addition to the celebrity mug shot hall of fame. The "Hey Girl" singer was indicted by a Grand Jury in Georgia on charges of making terroristic threats and abuse of an elder person.
According to a report by TMZ, Currington got into a boat and chased down a 70-year-old boat captain, Charles Ferrelle, with a camera on April 15. Currington reportedly hurled verbal abuse at Ferrelle, promised to "f*** him up" and threatened his life because the man steered his river vessel too close to Billy's boat dock. In fairness, a witness tells cops the boat's wake nearly knocked an elderly man into the water.
Since Currington had a camera with him, maybe there's a chance some video of the exchange will surface. For now, the mug shot is all there is to look at. A judge set Currington's bond at $27,000.
