And when audiences rejected his (brilliant) non-Michael Myers installment, "Halloween III: Season of the Witch," he checked out entirely, allowing the producers to mine the white-masked fiend for a series of quick-and-progressively-silly cash-ins.

There won’t be any more Halloween sequels from director David Gordon Green. After making Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends, Green has moved on to the Exorcist franchise, and he intends to make a trilogy of sequels there as well. While we wait to see what’s next for the Halloween franchise, Best Buy has revealed that they’ll be selling an exclusive, limited edition 4K steelbook set of Green’s Halloween trilogy. The street date for this set is October 10th. You can take a look at the Best Buy listing Here.

HBO is bringing back its most beloved, ultra-rich adult children fighting for their family business. I’m talking, of course, about the Gemstones.
Danny McBride’s absurdist megachurch comedy returns for Season 3 on June 18, as “The Righteous Gemstones” unveiled the first trailer for its next installment. The high-octane teaser clip features monster trucks, high-speed racing and none other than Steve Zahn, who appears to play a rival to Jesse, Judy and Kelvin Gemstone.
John Goodman also stars as the Gemstone family patriarch, alongside series regulars Cassidy Freeman, Tim Baltz, Tony Cavalero and Walton Goggins. DC’s next installment, the latest “Halloween” flick, David O. Russell’s new star-studded film and another Harry Styles movie set in the 1950s are among the 10 most-anticipated movies of October.
As you might’ve guessed, “Black Adam,” the upcoming DC Comics blockbuster starring Dwayne Johnson, is the most anticipated movie of October, according to Whip Media’s U.S. Movie Anticipation Report, which reflects data from TV Time, a television and movie app that tracks viewer interest across 22 million global registered users.
“Black Adam” will see the Justice Society of America try to harness the antihero’s powers for good, rather than destruction, as he takes on an evil foe. Fans are clearly excited about Johnson’s starring superhero role. Last year, producer Hiram Garcia told TheWrap the brain trust behind the movie “mean business.”

Every film franchise has its odd one out. You know, the one that makes a lot of fans wince or see red at the mere mention of it. For the Friday the 13th series, it’s probably Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday. For the Candyman series, it’s very likely to be Candyman 3: Day of the Dead. And for the Halloween series, it’s most definitely Halloween: Resurrection.
I’ve seen countless Halloween fans often rank the 2002 slasher as the worst of the series, and this contempt certainly shows in its Internet Movie Database user rating. Today, it holds a 4.0 out of 10, the lowest of the entire series. Even Halloween co-creator John Carpenter, who avoided watching many of the sequels he wasn’t involved in, took the time to throw shade on the film.
“I watched the one in that house, with all the cameras,” Carpenter told TooFab in 2018. “Oh my god.

The premiere will be followed by additional half-hour episodes on subsequent Sundays at the same time. The series debuts on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max.

Though masked killer Michael Myers will be sitting out this October 31, next year we’ll be getting “Halloween Kills” in the fall, followed by “Halloween Ends” in 2021. In a recent conversation with Collider, franchise star Jamie Lee Curtis, who will reprise her iconic role of Laurie Strode, spoke about what we can expect from the upcoming films, directed by David Gordon Green.
“The ass-kicking part is the fan-favorite part, but from my standpoint, I didn’t go into it because I got to kick Michael’s bottom. I was particularly drawn because it was a movie about trauma,” said Curtis. “We have horror movies that are horrific and we have these horrific events take place, but we leave the movie theater and then we complain that the dishwasher doesn’t work. Righteous Gemstones director David Gordon Green reveals how the show's transformative trip to the past came to be.
When HBO first ordered a full series for Danny McBride's next comedy effort, The Righteous Gemstones, they set the episode order at eight. That was before, however, McBride and the writing staff had some downtime from filming to think about including maybe just one more.
"We had just finished writing (episode) four and we were like a day ahead of schedule in our writing commitments," McBride told reporters at the 2019 TCA summer press tour. "So Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri, two of the other executive producers on the show, we just were like, 'Hey, what should we do? We got an extra day’ and then, we just started kind of brainstorming about this idea if we did a flashback episode what would that entail?"

Like Michael Myers himself, the “Halloween” franchise just can’t be killed. During a panel at Keystone Comic Con in Philadelphia over the weekend, creator John Carpenter assured audiences that his horror series won’t be ending anytime soon, as reported by TheWrap.
“As long as there’s money in this, I wouldn’t count on an ending,” Carpenter said. Directed by David Gordon Green, the next Halloween film, “Halloween Kills,” will hit theaters in October 2020, with “Halloween Ends” arriving in 2021.

Like Michael Myers himself, the “Halloween” franchise just can’t be killed. But director David Gordon Green, who resuscitated the series for 2018’s “Halloween,” will finally hang up the mask following the next two sequels announced last week.
According to Collider, Green also said that that “Halloween Kills” and “Halloween Ends” will conclude this particular strand of the Michael Myers/Laurie Strode story — making way for more filmmakers to contribute their own stories to the burgeoning “Halloween” universe.
“They’re never done telling the Frankenstein story, and at this point, Michael Myers is a classic movie monster. But our Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode/Michael Myers saga will be done,” Green told Collider. “The fun of it is also seeing it end, and knowing that it can. Blumhouse is reportedly prepping a sequel to 2018’s Halloween, with Jamie Lee Curtis returning.
Halloween, the 2018 traditional-timeline-altering franchise revival from the horror gurus at Blumhouse, proved to be a substantially profitable offering amongst a sea of remakes and reboots, many of which – to put it generously – a fared poorly. Indeed, off a microscopic $10 million budget, the film grossed $255.5 million worldwide. Consequently, the (apparently true) notion of a sequel being in the works is hardly world-shattering news. However, what is somewhat surprising, is the pace at which said project is moving.

It’s no secret around these parts that I was a huge fan of last year’s Halloween, so when I was offered the opportunity to chat with the man behind the mask—and the effects—Christopher Nelson, I jumped at the chance. During the interview, Nelson discussed how much the original Halloween has meant to him, and the pressures of stepping into the realm of Michael Myers. He also chatted about the collaborative spirit on the set of Halloween (2018) and building the history of Myers’ character into his version of the horror icon’s mask.

Exclusive: After debuting earlier this month to the second-best October domestic opening ever, and holding the No. 1 spot globally for two weeks in a row, Halloween has slashed its way across the $200M mark worldwide. Through Thursday, the Universal/Trancas/Miramax/Blumhouse title is at $204.3M with a split of $139.4M in North America and $64.9M at the international box office. There are still five markets to open.
The current cume gives Universal three of the Top Six highest grossing horror titles worldwide this year including Halloween at No. 3 and The First Purge ($136M) and Truth Or Dare ($95M) at Nos. 5 and 6.
When it screamed into domestic, the reboot-sequel also had the second-highest-grossing horror launch of all time — and as star Jamie Lee Curtis tweeted, the biggest horror movie opening with a female lead and biggest movie opening with a female lead over 55. The budget is a reported $15M.

Horror has spawned many an icon but Michael Myers is one of its most omnipotent. Since stalking Jamie Lee Curtis’ teenage babysitter Laurie Strode in John Carpenter’s seminal slasher Halloween, ‘The Shape’ has gone on to leave a lingering mark on cinema. Across 6 films and the Rob Zombie remake (and its sequel), Michael has risen again and again to wreak death upon the town of Haddonfield, often in pursuit of Laurie (herself a horror legend). Now, 40 years later, Halloween arrives to remind you why you ought to believe in the bogeyman.
From director David Gordon Green, Halloween is a sequel to the original 1978 film, which ignores the decades of lore and even the core series plot point of Michael being Laurie’s brother (an idea originally introduced in the 1981 sequel Halloween II). Wiping the slate this clean could well have infuriated long-standing fans but any risks pay off in droves,...

Its $80 million opening gross, a record for October, likely will prevent him from being able to sneak up on people anymore. McBride has carved a career writing and starring in comedies that include the HBO series Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals. He is writing and directing the next one, The Righteous Gemstones, an HBO series that will star John Goodman, Adam Devine and Edie Patterson. Here, McBride discusses how he and his cohorts got away with treading on Halloween‘s hallowed horror ground, figuring out ideas for the sequel, and how, if Jamie Lee Curtis hadn’t reprised Laurie Strode, it might have fallen...

There was a serious amount of hype surrounding Blumhouse’s new Halloween. With Jamie Lee Curtis and John Carpenter back on board 40 years after the release of the first movie, could it manage to bypass the endless acceptable-to-awful entries in the franchise and give us something on a level with the masterful original? Having smashed box office records and earned a mostly strong critical response, it’s safe to say that it’s certainly succeeded in that.
So, just how did director David Gordon Green and screenwriters Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley achieve what we thought was impossible and deliver a second strong Halloween movie? Well, the solid script and direction is a big part of it, but let’s not forget the terrific performances and chilling score. Overall, there just seems to be a great deal more care and affection for the franchise on show here than we’ve seen in the past.

Let it be known that this past weekend belonged to one film and one film only: Halloween.
The Blumhouse-backed horror sequel opened to an eye-watering $77.5 million at the box office – second only to New Line’s It when it comes to R-rated horror openings. That’s impressive in and of itself, particularly when you consider that Venom had only just gone and set a new October record with $80.2 million two weeks ago.
All of this has led series veteran Jamie Lee Curtis to raise a glass to Halloween‘s record-setting debut via Twitter, where she lauded David Gordon Green’s R-rated thriller as the “biggest horror movie opening with a female lead. Biggest movie opening with a female lead over 55. Second biggest October movie opening ever. Biggest Halloween [movie] opening ever.”
So, it’s not too hard to imagine Universal execs stuffing their pockets as the box office revenue continues to trickle in.

David Gordon Green and Danny McBride’s Halloween has set itself up as the forty year sequel to John Carpenters 1978 adored original, advertently, canonising itself as the one and only true sequel in a franchise that’s been in the grave more times than a skeleton and with retcons and continuity errors with each new entry in order to survive a plague of disastrous results in each predecessor, only resulting in more dumbfounded timeline confusion.
If anything Green and McBride’s film conquers the said issue of canon confusion. It ignores, somewhat fairly, the latter entries after John Carpenters’ departure, including the much underrated 1981 sequel and all Donald Pleasance as well as Curtis absentee entries.

In the new film (which ignores all the other sequels, remakes and that one film where Tom Atkins fights the Silver Shamrock), masked killer Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney and Castle) escapes an insane asylum forty years after terrorizing babysitter Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). Halloween has one of the most convoluted and, let’s face it, less-than-stellar histories of any movie franchise but still, many of us are diehard fans. You just have to look at how well Blumhouse’s new sequel is doing at the box office to see how audiences never get tired of Michael Myers and his eternal hunt for Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode.
Of course, the big hook for the latest movie is that it does away with nearly all of that complicated backstory and ignores every sequel in the franchise, picking up 40 years after the events of the original film. However, director David Gordon Green and screenwriters Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley have still made sure to stuff the movie full of references to both the first entry in the saga and even those that it’s wiped from continuity.
And so, on that note, here are 10 easter...

“Halloween” will not only take home the box office crown in its debut weekend, but may also break “Venom’s” recently-set record for best October opening of all time.
Universal’s reboot, starring Jamie Lee Curtis, is heading for an estimated $80 million from 3,928 North American locations in its first weekend. It’ll have to outpace “Venom’s” $80.255 million opening three weeks ago to beat the October record.

(Spoiler alert: Do not read on if you haven’t seen the new “Halloween” movie yet.)
Michael Myers is back to wreak havoc in “Halloween,” and perhaps one of the scariest scenes is when Michael goes from house to house on trick-or-treat night leaving a trail of dead bodies in various houses along a suburban street — all in one long horrifying shot.
“We were prepared to fail,” director David Gordon Green told TheWrap about the scene. “We had all these exit strategies: He could exit here, we could seam two shots here, or put a clever wipe there.”
The logistical challenge was so great that the crew spent extra time to prepare. “We spent half a day with camera operators talking through it,” Green said. “When we got to the day and all the background is running around, I didn’t want to be scientifically concerned with the precision of...

Jamie Lee Curtis’ “Halloween” is looking to slice up an opening weekend of as high as $75 million at 3,928 North American locations, early estimates showed Friday.
Universal’s R-rated slasher film is on its way to posting the second-highest October launch of all time, bested only by the $80 million opening of Tom Hardy’s “Venom” on Oct. 5-7. Anticipation is high among moviegoers for “Halloween,” with Curtis returning as Laurie Strode facing off against serial killer Michael Myers. Thursday night previews showed plenty of power with $7.7 million.
Friday’s mid-day estimates for “Halloween” — some of which were above $75 million — came in over the top end of this week’s expectations. Universal had been cautiously forecasting a $50 million bow, while some analysts had projected a $70 million launch. “Halloween” is also opening in 21 international territories this weekend.
“Halloween” will obliterate the franchise record opening of $26 million set by the 2007 Rob Zombie reboot. It...

Chicago – At this point, the “Halloween” franchise is looking as tattered and tired as Michael Myers old William Shatner mask… fraying around the edges and on the verge of falling apart. The 2018 “reboot” sequel brings back former scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, along with original Michael Myers, Nick Castle.
Rating: 2.0/5.0
While this new “Halloween” has a better pedigree than almost any of the other films in the series, besides the original, it’s still just a second rate slasher. Director David Gordon Green and frequent collaborator Danny McBride’s script pretends the other ten films in this series never happened… that’s an interesting tactic to cut through the confusing mythology, but they can’t build much on the idea.
“Halloween” opens everywhere in on October 19th. Featuring Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Will Patton and Nick Castle. Written by David Gordon Green, Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley.

The original Halloween, like most people, is my favorite horror film and the franchise, despite some issues (I’m looking at you Season of the Witch) continues to have a special place in my heart. Rob Zombie tried to bring the franchise back to prominence and despite an average first try, Zombie’s sequel failed and killed the new spin on the franchise before it had a chance to take off. Now 40 years since the original, comedian Danny McBride, of Eastbound and Down fame, and crew attempt to reboot the horror franchise by ignoring any film or event that occurred after the original. It’s an interesting strategy and one that pays off.
