After Day One of Coachella saw artists such as Sabrina Carpenter and Young Miko take inspiration from the Eighties, Day Two was a celebration of the Nineties thanks to reunion performances from No Doubt and Sublime, and the 2000s with Ice Spice’s Y2K aesthetic and the presence of Vampire Weekend.

Talking Heads’ David Byrne, Jerry Harrison, Chris Frantz, and Tina Weymouth reunited this past fall for the first time in 20 years to participate in a Q&a discussion at the Toronto International Film Festival’s screening of Stop Making Sense. Now, we’re learning that some promoters were hoping that the conversation could lead to a wider reunion. Among them were Live Nation and Coachella, who both hoped to book the legendary band for headlining gigs this year, but failed.
The news comes via a report from Billboard, which reveals that festival curator and Goldenvoice president Paul Tollett flew to Toronto for the screening of Stop Making Sense, hoping to discuss the possibility of a reunion at Coachella 2024 with members of the band and their reps. Upon arriving and conducting a vibe check, though, Tollett told Billboard that he “sensed there were no shows happening, so I didn’t make an offer.

The second weekend of Coachella 2023 will be missing one of its headliners. Representatives for Frank Ocean told TMZ in a statement on April 19 that "after suffering an injury to his leg on festival grounds in the week leading up to weekend one, Frank Ocean was unable to perform the intended show but was still intent on performing, and in 72 hours, the show was reworked out of necessity." Continued the statement, "On doctor's advice, Frank is not able to perform weekend two due to two fractures and a sprain in his left leg." His spot will be taken over by Blink-182 in weekend two, according to Variety. (Reps for Coachella did not immediately respond to Popsugar's request for comment and Popsugar was not able to reach Ocean's rep for comment.)
Prior to the announcement, social media was awash with conversation about Ocean's set during the festival's first weekend. According to reports from outlets,...

Frank Ocean made his long-awaited return to the stage on Sunday with a headlining appearance at Coachella 2023.
Things got off to a rather inauspicious start for the much anticipated performance. For those hoping to watch at home, Ocean was pulled from the YouTube livestream just three hours before his scheduled set time. For those on the ground, there was the disappointment of no Ocean products being offered at the merch tent, and the lengthy delay as his set didn’t start until an hour past the scheduled start time.
When Ocean did finally take the stage, it was in a rather modest fashion, facing away from the audience and towards his band. He chose to remain more controlled and insular, frequently removing himself from the stage and his own songs. His performance set up — an equipment-laden mock studio backdrop featuring a line of dancers doing pedestrian choreography while a full-stage...

Frank Ocean hasn’t performed in six years, but the reluctant superstar returned to the stage at Coachella on Saturday during a headlining show that was sometimes emotional and sometimes baffling. Earlier in the day, Coachella released an announcement saying that Ocean’s set wouldn’t be livestreamed on YouTube like the rest of the festival, disappointing many fans at home who were...

It’s been over five years since the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Roger Waters, and the Who came together on the Coachella grounds in Indio, California for one of the most gargantuan classic rock events in history. The official name was Desert Trip, but many fans simply called it Oldchella or Boomerstock. They staged the event across two weekends and grossed an astounding $160 million (though you had to basically mortgage your home to afford the tickets).

Frank Ocean fans won't need any novocaine over this Coachella news. The elusive performer is slated to headline the long-awaited festival in 2023, the event's co-founder Paul Tollett confirmed to the Los Angeles Times. The 33-year-old was originally scheduled to make his grand return to Coachella as a headliner last year, but the coronavirus pandemic unexpectedly delayed those plans. The 2020 and 2021 festivals were subsequently canceled. While he was unavailable for the rescheduled 2022 dates—April 15 through 17 and April 22 through 24—he will officially be back by the following year...so long as everything goes according to the new plans. Meanwhile, the original 2020...

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival co-founder Paul Tollett revealed that Frank Ocean is set to headline the festival in 2023 in a new Los Angeles Times profile.
Ocean was originally slated to co-headline the 2020 festival with Rage Against the Machine and Travis Scott, but after Coachella was rescheduled to spring of 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Ocean was not available for the new dates.
While Coachella organizers usually do not reveal lineup details so far in advance, Tollett explained that he wanted to reassure fans that the reclusive Ocean would be back.

Coachella was supposed to take place in April 2020, but when Covid-19 struck, festival organizers pushed the event to this month — and then again to April 2021 after virus cases in the U.S. climbed all summer. Multiple music-industry insiders now tell Rolling Stone that the 21st edition of the popular music festival will be pushed a third time, to October 2021.
Sources who have been in direct communication with Aeg and Goldenvoice, the concert-promotion companies that organize the festival, say they have been asked to prepare for a move to the fall.

“I wanted the film to provide kind of a vicarious experience,” says Chris Perkel, director and producer of the documentary “Coachella: 20 Years in the Desert,” confirming that there’s absolutely nothing coincidental about the film’s debut today coinciding with what would have been day one of Coachella 2020.
“We obviously debated what to do with the release of the film once the festival was rescheduled for October,” he says, but ultimately YouTube Originals decided to only move the release date back a week and a half, from March 31 to April 10, with the idea that the doc could serve as a salve on a weekend when passholders may be particularly nursing the postponement blues. “With all of us staying indoors, and under a lot of stress, we thought that might be more valuable than ever,” Perkel says.
It’s technically 19 years in the desert outside of Palm Springs, as longtime devotees may recall.

The more music festival lineups start to all look the same, the more that organizers try to cram in as many one-of-a-kind perks as possible to set their events apart. Have we reached peak festival? Coachella, the Og music bacchanal that will kick off Friday in the California desert, refuses to even accept the question. Its organizer — Goldenvoice Productions, which created the show in 1999 along with Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen — is rolling out the music festival’s first outside programming this year, and aiming for the heights of luxury.

Long before the hipster hordes began their annual passage to the Palm Springs area for the Coachella festival 19 years ago, the area offered a swinging, closer alternative to Las Vegas. Home-away-from-home to the likes of vacationing Rat Packers Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, as well as Elvis’ honeymoon house with Priscilla and Colonel Parker’s nearby digs, the desert enclave has been a haven from Hollywood for those seeking respite in the sun and heat. That legacy remains to this day in local streets named after the likes of former residents Bob Hope, Dinah Shore and Gene Autry.
Veteran industry publicist Bob Merlis, who bought the first of his three Palm Springs homes in 2003, explains the town first attracted vacationing celebrities with the so-called “two-hour rule,” the film studios’ requirement its stars stay that close to L.A. for any possible reshoots, which effectively eliminated Las Vegas or Hawaii as destinations.
