Exclusive: The upcoming Apple TV+ series Land of Women is adding four cast members to its roster: Amaury Nolasco (Hightown), Santiago Cabrera (Star Trek: Picard), Gloria Muñoz (Dangerous Moms), and newcomer Victoria Bazua. Production is currently underway in Spain.
Nolasco will play Kevin, the trainee hitman after Gala (Eva Longoria), and her family. Excessively worried about his physique and his number of followers on social media, he holds just enough malice for the job.
Cabrera will play Amat, who has lived in La Muga for only a couple of years. While he likes to keep to himself, he has a heart of gold and has quickly earned the affection of the townsfolk… and perhaps even Gala’s. He spends most of his time among the vines and in the little winery that he shares with the village co-op.

Spain’s Oscar entry, “The Endless Trench,” a multi-award-winning feature from the Basque trio of Aitor Arregi, Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga, has also become a flagship production for the Andalusian film sector.
The film was set and shot in Andalusia, with Andalusian actors and co-produced by Seville-based La Claqueta. Released last year in Spain by eOne, the film was acquired by Netflix, and bowed in the U.S. on Nov. 6.
Inspired by real-life events after the Spanish Civil War, “Trench” mainly filmed in Huelva’s Higuera de la Sierra, Carboneras and Paymogo for its Andalusian leg. Olmo Figueredo and Manuel H. Martín’s outfit La Claqueta was key for “Trench’s” financing, documentation and narrative support.

Madrid — Bambú Producciones, a key driving force behind the international boom in Spanish TV fiction, is entering into a phase of business expansion, tapping showrunners Josep Cister and Diego Sotelo and boosting film production brand Mr. Fields & Friends Cinema.
Founded in 2007 by Ramón Campos and Teresa Fernández-Valdés, and minority owned by Studiocanal, Bambú has produced a large list of high-profile TV dramas led by “Gran Hotel” and “Velvet,” whose success, especially in Latin America, proved that, for the first time ever, there was a mass audience abroad for original Spanish series.
“We are at a time when, given the market demand for Bambú content, we have decided to grow, incorporating names as important as Cister and Sotelo,” Campos told Variety.
A former TV fiction director at Lagardère’s Boomerang TV in Spain, Cister has been responsible for series such as “Old Bridge’s Secret,” “The Time In Between,” “Acacias 38” and “Presumed Guilty.

Cannes — A Movistar + Original Series co-produced with and sold by Studiocanal, “Instinto” begins with deep breathing.
It is in fact Marco Mur (Mario Casas), jogging down an empty near-dawn Madrid street. But it could as easily be his having sex. He pleasures himself in the shower, glances at a sketch – maybe his – of a naked woman, then heads to his shrink.
That night he’s off to an “Eyes Wide Shut”-style S & M club, has a threesome with two masked girls. By day, Marco is an entrepreneur and owner of Alva, a high-tech industrial engineering company whose banner first product is Ciclon, a luxury automobile converting wind-power into energy. But even his inventions – there’s a high-speed train in the pipeline – seem, symbolically, a way of escape.
Where did you get the idea for Ciclon? an Arab sheik and potential investor asks at its presentation

Madrid — Netflix’s “High Seas,” its fourth Spanish Original Series, produced by “Velvet’s” Bambú Producciones, initiated rehearsals in October. Netflix has yet to announce an exact release date this year.
But, following on “Cable Girls,” Netflix’s first Spanish original and another Bambú production, “Elite,” and “Money Heist” (“La casa de papel”), expectation is high. Variety visited the set in late January and interviewed Bambú founder and lead writer Ramón Campos. Following, five takes on the upcoming Netflix Original:
1.Mystery And, As Always, Melodrama
Created by Campos and Gemma R. Niera, “High Seas” (“Alta Mar”) is set in the late 1940s on a luxury transatlantic liner carrying passengers from Spain to Brazil. A murder is committed – of a woman passenger not on the passenger list and whom no one remembers. Only one thing seems certain: The murderer cannot leave the ship. Netflix, the world's leading Internet television network, announced today that its first original series filmed entirely in Spain, will start production in Madrid in 2016 and debut exclusively on Netflix around the globe in 2017.
The drama is centered upon four women from different backgrounds, hired to be switchboard operators for the country's only telephone company in 1920s Spain. The series is produced by Madrid-based Bambú Producciones, led by Ramón Campos and Teresa Fernández Valdés, producers of the acclaimed Spanish series Gran Hotel and Velvet, and co-created by Gema Neira. The 16 episode first season will begin shooting later this year.
