Michael Fassbender is set to star in At Swim-Two-Birds, the directorial debut of actor Brendan Gleeson. The film looks fairly Irish so far, with Colin Farrell, Gabriel Byrne and Cillian Murphy all already on board.
A student is writing a couple of stories which start to intertwine with each other, before the characters rebel against their creator. The story should be a hard sell, but Gleeson is immensely likeable and has slowly built himself a reputation as a solid character actor. He’ll next be seen in The Guard.

Brendan Gleeson, the Irish actor known for everything from his role as Mad-Eye Moody in the Harry Potter series to his new film with Martin McDonagh, The Guard, has worked with enough brilliant directors over the years that he's finally ready to take the plunge himself. And the benefit of being a talented Irish actor-turned-director is apparently that every good actor who hails from that island will come along with you for the journey. Screen Daily reports that an all-star crew has joined Gleeson's film At-Swim-Two-Birds, including Colin Farrell, Cillian Murphy, Gabriel Byrne, Gleeson's own son Domhnall, and man-of-the-moment Michael Fassbender. You pretty much only need to add Liam Neeson in there to get an Awesome Irish Actor royal flush, and who knows, Gleeson may talk him into it before too long. Oddly enough, none of these actors appear to be eligible to play the main character-- Screen Daily wits...

Although Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges) has been earning rave reviews for his starring performance alongside Don Cheadle in John Michael McDonagh‘s upcoming The Guard, the actor’s attention as of late has been revolving mostly around gathering enough financing to back his adaptation of Flann O’Brien‘s 1939 novel At Swim-Two-Birds. (Check out the novel’s Amazon page by clicking here.)
Gleeson, who would be making his directorial debut on the project, has spent over four years working on the screenplay, and almost as much time ensuring the participation of a group of actors that includes Gabriel Byrne, Colin Farrell, and Cillian Murphy, as well as Gleeson’s son Domhall.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who might be best known for his role in Woody Allen‘s Match Point, has also been named as a principal cast member, though his involvement is less concrete than the aforementioned trio. If Meyers‘ involvement does eventually fall through,...
