Born out of real life pranks, Textastrophe: A Collection of Hilariously Catastrophic Text Pranks is an expansion of the popular Textastrophe Tumblr with tons of never before seen material. For Matt Andrews, it all started during an exceptionally boring shift at the smart phone kiosk in the mall. With ample time to procrastinate, he decided to check out Craigslist where he saw an ad requesting that the reader text a personal cell phone number for more information. This led to a series of hilarious exchanges and the beginning of his prank text empire. Among the many Lol moments in Textastrophe, he shows us what happens when you: · Offer to barter two sub-sandwiches for a used motorcycle · Text a mysterious man off Craigslist to build a man cave in your basement ·...

Everyone has their own favorite horror monster, stalker or slasher, but be prepared to see them as you’ve never seen them before. Illustrator and artist, Matt Andrews, has reproduced images of horror icons using cosmetics such as shaving cream and nail varnish.
Andrews studied as an illustration major at Winthrop University in South Carolina, however he says he has been drawing comic and cartoon illustrations since childhood. On his website mandraws.com, Andrews describes his progression from paper illustrations to digital art which ultimately resulted in a university project he has called Cosmonstrography. We’ve included some of our favorites below.
The project was part of a visual illustration class and required Andrews to design art pieces and a typeface for his titles. On Reddit, Andrews discusses the origins of his project in more detail:
“The project was called “Beauty Shock.” We had to take something beautiful, or in my case beautifying,...

It's time for our weekly pick of your responses to our favourite film series, for which Guardian writers have selected the movies they just can't get enough of
Here's a roundup of what you thought in week seven, when the selections were The Goonies, Together, The Ladykillers, Night of the Hunter and Star Trek II – The Wrath of Kahn
My favourite film's fish and visitors moment finally arrived at the start of week seven. We'd got away with Back to the Future, slipped Predator past you in a cloak of respectability and zapped Ghostbusters's critical hot spots. Yet Matt Andrews's championing of The Goonies was a flashback too far for those suffering from nostalgia fatigue. "Is there anything edifying at this point in another Guardian contributor picking some 80s kids' movie as their favourite?" asked JohnBarnesOnToast. "The articles are basically the same (and in this instance it's not...

Angelina Jolie and Tom Cruise dismiss a lawsuit and a rumour as 'par for the course' and 'ludicrous'
The big story
Celebrity gesture of the week? The shrug.
Angelina Jolie sported one as a lawsuit claiming her directorial debut was nicked from a Croatian journalist was filed, then Tom Cruise (aka Tom Cruise's People) took up the trend in response to rumours that crowds who greeted the Mission Impossible star's arrival in Mumbai were hired actors.
It became both rather well. "It's par for the course," said Jolie of Josip Knežević's claim that she had taken her story from his book, The Soul Shattering. "It happens on almost every film. There are many books and documentaries that I did pull from, but that particular book I've never seen." Jolie's film, In The Land of Blood and Honey, is set during the Bosnian war and sees a Serbian camp commander...

In the latest from our writers' favourite film series, Matt Andrews mans the rigging for Spielberg's mid-80s pirate adventure featuring swearing kids and a boatload of skeletons
Got a bone to pick with this review? Embark on your own here, or leave a comment below deck
Picture, if you will, a Midlands household circa 1990. Cable TV was still a distant dream and cinema trips were a rarity what with the newest addition to my family still on hourly feeds. Film choices were dictated via the somewhat arbitrary whim of my dad, perhaps popping into the local VHS shop to grab a copy of whatever would entertain three kids for an hour or two. Several Looney Tunes box sets later and we arrived at Spielberg's 1985 cult classic, The Goonies.
My childish enthusiasm for pirates had just begun to manifest itself. Dinosaurs were gradually falling out of favour, to be replaced...
