In 2005, Paul McCartney performed at the Super Bowl, and Keith Richards had a suggestion for the songs he should play. McCartney refused to take Richards up on a dare to play an old Beatles song. Here’s why he said he couldn’t play the song and what he decided to play instead.

Shortly before McCartney took the stage at the 2005 Super Bowl, he vacationed in Parrot Cay, where Richards has a home. McCartney dropped in on him one afternoon. While they had never been particularly close, they formed a friendship.
“Paul started to turn up every day, when his kid was sleeping,” Richards wrote in his book, Life. “I’d never known Paul that well. John and I knew each other quite well, and George and Ringo, but...

Supermodel Christie Brinkley underwent an emergency operation on her back on Tuesday night for an injury she incurred during a recent ski trip. The exact nature of the 53-year-old's injuries was not disclosed, but she is expected to be out of hospital by the end of the week. Brinkley's representative, Fran Curtis, tells American publication People, "She needed surgery, and thank God she got it. She sounds great. She's feeling a million times better." Curtis says Brinkley's injury had worsened in the last few days and that the biggest inconvenience caused by the surgery was missing out on one of her daughter's gigs. Alexa Ray Joel, 21, whose father is Brinkley's former husband Billy Joel, was scheduled to play on Wednesday night at the Mercury Lounge in Lower Manhattan. Alexa adds, "I wish that my mom could be there for the show but the most important thing right now is for her to get well."...

The Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards will not undergo surgery following his mysterious stay in a New Zealand hospital, according to the band's spokesperson. The 62-year-old was airlifted to Auckland's Ascot hospital suffering concussion after reportedly falling out of a palm tree while on holiday in Fiji last week. But contrary reports claimed Richards sustained his injuries in a jet-ski accident. Spokeswoman Fran Curtis would not disclose how the rocker was hurt, but she dispelled reports Richards would require surgery to drain blood from his skull. She added, "He's feeling good and in good spirits." Richards is said to be looking forward to the European leg of the tour which kicks off later this month in Barcelona, Spain.

Rolling Stones star Keith Richards is recovering in hospital in Auckland, New Zealand, but press reports disagree over how the guitarist was injured. Initial reports said the 62-year-old rocker fell out of a palm tree while on holiday in Fiji on Thursday and suffered a mild concussion. A local newspaper then alleged Richards got on a jet ski after the fall and hurt himself again in another accident. Band spokeswoman Fran Curtis only comments that Richards was injured earlier this week and flew to New Zealand with wife Patti for observation. Her statement did not mention the severity of Richards' condition or how he was hurt. New Zealand's Sunday Star-Times quoted Doctor Uzzel Kanti Dhar as saying Richards was admitted to a private hospital in Fiji on Thursday and then airlifted to Auckland later that day. Fans gathered outside an Auckland hospital yesterday, and New Zealand's TV3 reported that Richard's wife arrived carrying clothes, while a security guard carried in three guitar cases.
