Plaguers is a Sci-fi Horror movie that was initially released in 2008, some 12 years ago, but is being re-released in a “10th Anniversary Edition” through Wild Eye Releasing, and so I had a chance to sit down with it and see what it had to offer.
Directed and written by Brad Sykes (The Pact), Plaguers is the tale of a crew of sexy space pirates (yep) who hijack an Earth-bound fuel-transport ship, and, accidentally, an alien virus known as “Thanatos” is released, which mutates victims and turns them into demonic and starving monsters. The sexy pirates (yep) and the crew of the ship must band together in order to take out these undead, erm… plaguers, as the vessel approaches Earth.

The List, which details a group of young teenage males who form a list of those that they want to seek revenge on, has been delayed yet again. The film which was originally set to start filming in summer 2010 was delayed till October 2010. It has been delayed yet again until spring 2011.
According to director Katt Shea, the money is still in place for The List and that the script will be filmed just not till spring 2011. Knowing Katt Shea's penchant for strong characterizations, honest dialogue, timely material and an ability to draw strong performances from her cast, The List should be something to look forward to. This will mark the director's first film after a ten year absence. Noteworthy projects in the past include Stripped To Kill, Poison Ivy and The Rage: Carrie II.
Cast members currently attached to The List include Haley Bennett, Evan Peters, Louis Gossett Jr.,...

Scared of the dark? You should be. Here’s a quickie trailer and poster for Robert David Sanders’ “in the dark” creature movie “The Blackout”. I’d like to tell you that I don’t want to spoil what is lurking in the darkness and chasing our victims, but, er, the poster sorta already gives that away. Starring Barbara Streifel Sanders, Joseph Dunn, Ian Malcolm, Michael Caruso, Caroline Rich, Anthony Tedesco, James Martinez, John Gorman, Alexis Zibolis, and Ace Gibson. When an apartment building’s lights go out mysteriously, all of the tenants put aside their problems and band together to get to the bottom of the city-wide blackout. Deep in the basement of the high-rise, a hideous breed of monster hatches and begins to wreak havoc. Everyone must find a way to kill the blood-thirsty creatures and survive the darkness before it destroys the world. Synopsis: When an apartment...

Director/writer: Brad Sykes.
Plaguers was recently released on DVD through Image Entertainment and the film successfully blends other science-fiction films into one, but what else does Plaguers accomplish? The answer is not much. Yes, the camera and lights stay on during the production, while the sound department figures out that dubbing is a poor option, yet, Plaguers is best described as "just a hodge podge of stuff we've all seen before" (DigitallyObsessed).
The bare bones plot follows the spaceship Pandora and a small crew, who encounter several stranded space stewardesses on a derelict craft (no, seriously). These purple out-fitted sirens of the future attempt to hijack Pandora and in the ensuing chaos a power supply, known as Thanatos, breaks open killing or infecting one of the stewardesses. Now there are zombies in space, which basically sums up Brad Sykes' plot.
Plaguers gets a passing grade for accomplishing the basics of filmmaking i.

Plaguers (Image) is a hodgepodge homage (a.k.a. ripoff) of Alien, a George Romero Dead film and a ’80s Sf-horror B-movie that Roger Corman would’ve produced back in the day. The low-budget flick takes place in the 23rd century. The spaceship Pandora is headed to Earth, and it’s carrying a mysterious green-glowing energy source that they refer to as “Thanatos.” The craft has a small crew, and I would name them if that were important, but it isn’t. The only crewmembers who aren’t interchangeable or forgettable are Captain Holloway (Alexis Zibolis) and Tarver (Steve Railsback). Actually, Holloway is rather forgettable as well—she just gets more screen time—and Railsback plays a synthoid (a.k.a. an android) in a lifeless performance in which the Helter Skelter actor goes way too far in the “I’m a robot. I have no emotions” department. Oh, there’s also the former captain,...

A new poster is available for the Plaguers, which is a Brad Sykes film. Plaguers has been released as of December 8th on DVD. Image Entertainment is releasing the film and despite some early poor reviews those who like a blend of sci-fi with horror might find some value in this low budget feature. Have a look at an early trailer posted below or a second high definition trailer at the film's website.
A synopsis for Plaguers right here:
"The year is 2241. The transport vessel Pandora hurtles through space, bringing an alien energy source known as Thanatos to a fuel-starved planet Earth. The Pandora's six-person crew is headed by Captain Holloway, a tough, no-nonsense woman, recently promoted after the untimely death of former captain, and her fiancee, Rubini. Some of the crew are suspicious of Thanatos, which almost seems to have a life of its own.

I spent so many nights tied to the tv screen watching anything that remotely looked like it could be as good as Ridley Scott's Alien back in 80s that I still have a fondness for low-budget space station horrors to this day. I mean, films like Xtro, Forbidden World, Deep Star Six or even Roger Corman's Galaxy of Terror were fun right? Right?!
Which brings us to Plaguers, a new scifi horror film that wants to be Alien but comes off feeling like another in a long line of Alien "homages." And of course, I completely respect that. Plaguers made its debut at last year's Afm and is being brought to us by Spotlight-Pictures who also brought us the apocalyptic Autumn. However, I don't remember a trailer ever popping up so I thought I'd throw it out there and see what everyone thought.
