Support heroes in “Overwatch” are getting some changes in the next patch, according to a post from developer Geoff Goodman on the Blizzard forums.
Affected characters are Ana, Brigitte, Lúcio, Mercy, and Moira. The purpose behind the changes is to make the characters competitive with each other.
As a result, Brigitte and Mercy are getting reigned in, and the others are getting powered up.
The changes coming are as follows:
Ana’s Nano Boost will additionally heal targets for 300 Hp.
The developers noted the disadvantages to playing as Ana, and state that this change will allow Ana “to use her ultimate as a clutch save on a dying teammate, or even use it in combination with her Biotic Grenade for a huge instant heal on even the biggest of tank health pools.”
Brigitte’s Shield Bash cooldown period will increase from six to seven seconds.

In the ever-changing landscape that is Overwatch‘s meta state, it’s to be expected that certain characters will always fall by the wayside – largely forgotten about until Blizzard sees fit to bring them back into the realms of relevance. We’ve seen it countless times before with the likes of Sombra and Symmetra, who both received substantial changes in order to jack up their pick rates, but now it looks as if Junkrat’s next in line to receive similar treatment.
The Australian explosives expert has, in the past, been a popular pick to fill the defense role, thanks largely to the versatility of his Concussion Mine and the oppressive nature of his Frag Launcher. However, nothing is ever set in stone for Blizzard’s popular shooter, the advent of frequent balance updates and tweaks making sure that no one character ever reigns supreme for too long. Junkrat, however,...

Given that the primary purpose of Overwatch‘s Ptr servers are to allow players the opportunity to test proposed changes before they roll out to the live game on all platforms, I find it odd that the developer would revert modifications like these so soon after they’ve been made. Indeed, the recent tweaks it made to Ana in a Ptr patch earlier this week saw the character’s Biotic Rifle and Grenade abilities take a hit to their effectiveness, but it looks like Blizzard jumped the gun on the latter, because they’ve already reverted the changes.
Providing an explanation for the reversion over on Battle.net, principle designer Geoff Goodman said:
Ana had the biggest changes in this patch, and upon testing, feedback, and talking about it a ton internally, we decided to pull back...

Depending on who you ask, perfect balance is a goal that’s either near-impossible to achieve or an unrealistic aim that is futile to pursue. I am, of course, referring to Blizzard’s continued commitment to making every single one of Overwatch‘s Heroes fit into the meta like a well-cut jigsaw piece, and it looks like Roadhog and Winston are next in line to receive some tweaks for that very reason. Don’t get too excited, though, these changes aren’t anywhere near the level of the drastic overhaul given to Bastion in the most recent Ptr update, but they should help to remedy some issues players have been experiencing with both characters during play.
Outlining the changes coming to Roadhog over on a forum post (via VG247), principle designer Geoff Goodman says that the beer-bellied tank is to receive a,...

Overwatch‘s Bastion is about to receive a drastic overhaul to his abilities on the shooter’s Public Test Realm in an upcoming update, Blizzard has confirmed. As he outlined last week in a post on the Battle.net forums, principle designer Geoff Goodman today followed up on the promise of attempting to make Bastion great again by providing a rundown of what to expect when the tweaks to everyone’s favorite ‘bot go live. While fans of the character aren’t going to be seeing a remodel on the same level as, say, Symmetra’s improvements last year, they’re likely to result in a surge of popularity for the Hero when (and if) they make it into the live game.
In his forum post, Goodman details the proposed fixes to not only Bastion’s Recon...

In the latest back and forth in Blizzard’s eternal struggle to make Overwatch the most balanced shooter to ever grace video games, principle designer Geoff Goodman has outlined some tweaks being made to tank hero D.Va in a future update. Now, in case you’re wondering, this isn’t to revert changes made to the character in an update earlier this month but rather, to change how her Defence Matrix ability functions. In a thread titled ‘2 Ways To Fix D.Va (Without Reverting The Nerf)’ posted on the Battle.net forums (via PCGamesN), users have been suggesting methods in which Blizzard can achieve such a feat, with Goodman having taken note of the excellent feedback found within.
In responding to the various comments, Goodman confirmed that a change to how Defence Matrix absorbs projectiles is...

It’s funny how things turn out, isn’t it? During Blizzard’s early beta tests for Overwatch last year and even following the official launch, the shooter’s resident robot Hero Bastion was often singled out for being too overpowered in comparison to his peers, with the majority of complaints usually aimed at how powerful he was in Turret Mode. Since then, the character has undergone several tweaks to ensure he can’t mow down endless waves of Heroes without repercussion, but it appears as if Blizzard’s changes have led to him being used less and less as time has gone on.
In a colossal thread over on the official forums, fans have been asking Blizzard to address the character’s current state and perhaps make a few improvements. Principal designer Geoff Goodman responded to the feedback yesterday (thanks,...

In what has largely become routine by now, Blizzard rolled out the latest patch for Overwatch‘s Public Test Realm servers last week, and as is almost always the case, there’s a part of it that isn’t sitting particularly well with fans of a certain character.
D.Va, along with Roadhog and Ana, received various tweaks to their abilities with the patch, although it’s those made to the former that have proved to be the most contentious. While Blizzard had outlined previously what they’d be adding and taking away from the fun-loving tank hero to make her feel more balanced, it’s only now that players have actually had time to test drive the changes, so to speak.

The latest build for Overwatch‘s Ptr server is now live for PC players of the popular shooter, Blizzard has announced. Although principal game designer Geoff Goodman provided us with a small taste of what to expect in the new patch earlier this week, it now appears as if Roadhog isn’t the only hero in line for some much-needed tweaks.
Goodman outlined changes being made to the character’s hook ability in the original forum post, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Both Ana and D.Va are being primed for some rebalancing, especially the latter, who’s going to feel considerably different to play in comparison to her live version.
Ana’s change is rather simple: her Biotic Grenade’s healing potency is being reduced by half, a decision which, Blizzard says,...

Blizzard appears to have nailed introducing stealth gameplay into Overwatch with new character Sombra, but it was far from an easy road to follow, according to the shooter’s principal game designer.
Speaking to Game Informer during an interview at this year’s BlizzCon, Geoff Goodman told the site that Sombra proved to be perhaps the hardest character the design team has ever had to create due to the difficulty in making her core stealth mechanic feel fun but also balanced.
“She [Sombra] was probably the hardest character to make over time. We thought we had this great idea going into it, “Oh, we want to do this stealth character!” That’s what we started with, and “Let’s do a character that’s not so lethal, maybe she can hack people.”
Shortly thereafter, the design team felt that a hero that traded offence for damage-lowering debuffs didn’t sit well.

Blizzard has done it again. Just like World Of Warcraft and Hearthstone before it, the studio has hit a home run with team-based first-person shooter Overwatch, delivering on basically every single promise made prior to release. Launch day was just the beginning though: Blizzard fully intends to support the competitive Fps for a long time to come, and is already considering making changes to existing characters in the name of balance.
Cowboy sharpshooter McCree seems to be the most likely character to be first in line for some tweaking judging by comments made by Overwatch principle designer Geoff Goodman on the game’s official forums (via VideoGamer). Here’s what he had to say:
I’ve been watching McCree carefully since we’ve released. McCree’s flashbang plays an important role in being a strong option against very fast/agile teams (tracers/genjis/etc...
