"When I think of Chester I remember his smile... His laughter, intelligence, kindness and talent. That absolutely unforgettable voice that was at once delicate, ferocious and always full of emotion," Leto wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of Bennington. "Witnessing his life taught me a lot. Especially about commitment, about kindness, about hard work, about the pursuit and achievement of dreams and mostly, about love."

"A friend to all is a friend to none." Everyone in Hollywood loves Diane Keaton—and the feeling is mutual. But that doesn't mean she's actually friends with everyone in show business. The 71-year-old actress recently received the AFI Life Achievement Award, where dozens of celebrities showed up to pay their respects to the Annie Hall star. And while Keaton appreciated the outpouring of support, she said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday she doesn't consider her co-stars lifelong pals: "They've worked with me." Keaton then began to review the list of attendees and presenters from her AFI ceremony. "Some are important, you know? Like Meryl Streep!" she said. "That's an...

A day after Stefani's Grammy performance/Target-sponsored music video, the singer stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live, where she admitted that she had no prior knowledge about the No Doubt side project. Every once in a while, a supporting performance comes along that overshadows the lead characters of a film. In the case of filmmaker Alexander Payne’s latest tale, and in once unforgettable scene, this would be the remarkable June Squibb.

Lincoln is set to hit theaters this weekend, in limited release, before expanding nationwide next Friday as it continues its march through awards season. Most of the domestic trailers have centered on a few clips of dialogue from lead actor Daniel Day-Lewis along with some of the supporting cast. A stirring new international trailer gives us our best look yet at the Steven Spielberg directed film. The film is scheduled to close out the AFI Film Festival this Thursday. Meanwhile, this past weekend saw comedian Louis C.K. host Saturday Night Live for the first time in his career. One of the skits, written by cast member Seth Myers, saw him taking on a very Louis C.K. approach to Abraham Lincoln. Check out the clip below. Follow along on...

“The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it’s a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good and it could be again.” – Field Of Dreams.

Steve Martin has been making people laugh so hard for so long that some — especially younger audiences — might not fully appreciate just how pure and fresh his early comic work was. Before the Oscars, before Father of the Bride, before Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, even before The Jerk, Martin was a total force of nature whose main platform was television, beginning with writing for the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. In his wild and crazy prime, an appearance by Martin on Johnny Carson or other primetime showcase was insane, yet so carefully crafted. When he hosted Saturday Night Live or had a stand-up special,...

Kristen Wiig made her final regular appearance on Saturday Night Live last week with a moving send-off that was grander and more heartfelt than the sketch show has given a cast member in quite some time. With half a dozen film projects in the works, Wiig is poised to launch into a long, successful career on the A-list. But then again so was David Spade, Jimmy Fallon, and Tina Fey. While those SNL vets have all flourished in television, Wiig has made no move toward the small screen, and it’s harder to become a bankable star on the level of Will Ferrell,...

In 2011, I saw more new movies than I ever have in the past. Previous years I'd flirted with roughly two per week but, this year, thanks to a full Sundance Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, Butt-Numb-a-Thon and other events like AFI Fest and the Los Angeles Film Festival, that number jumped up to 167. Several of those won't be released until 2012 and others won't get released at all, but it's still a more than sufficient cross section of 2011 releases to adequately speak on the state of film in 2011 and give my top ten movies of the year. (Note: Any film that didn't get an Oscar qualifying 2011 theatrical run did not qualify for this list. That's just my personal rule.) For me, 2011 was the year of "good, but not great." You know the type. A film that does everything right, is entertaining, emotional, but doesn't stick with you once you've left the theater.

By far, the question we get most to our IFC News Podcast e-mail account and to our Twitter accounts is "How can I listen to older episodes of the podcasts?" Well good news podcasts fans; Christmas came a couple days late this year. While we're still working to make all our podcasts available on iTunes, we're pleased to present this complete archive page containing links to every single IFC News Podcast. That's right: every single one. Even the early ones that are embarrassingly terrible that you should never listen to. (Seriously. Don't do it.)
Still, if you've got 200+ hours at your disposal and you want to listen to the evolution of our podcast, now you can. And it has evolved. On our very first episode (a review of "Borat" from October 2006), we were barely capable of introducing ourselves (we also were pretty blatantly ripping off Filmspotting's review format). My second point is that not only is this a movie the venerable Roger Ebert reviewed glowingly on his blog a year ago but you can go on the film’s website and watch it for free.

On Saturday night, Australian living legend of stage and screen Geoffrey Rush distinguished himself from his colleagues in the rarefied group of 16 to have won an Oscar, a Tony and an Emmy by being the only one to also be awarded the Ray. The Australian film industry's highest accolade, Rush became the 41st recipient of the AFI Raymond Longford Award in recognition of exceptional contribution to Australian screen culture.

Actor Geoffrey Rush was honoured for his contribution to the Australian film industry on Saturday night at a ceremony in Melbourne.
The Pirates Of The Caribbean star received the Raymond Longford Award, named after the film pioneer, from the Australian Film Institute (AFI) for his iconic Aussie movie roles - including Lantana in 2001 and 1996's Shine, which earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor.
Rush is only the sixth actor to receive the award from the AFI since it began 41 years ago - and he was overwhelmed to be among the exclusive group.
The 58 year old says, "I'm aware of some of the names that have been awarded before - real heavy hitters like Fred Schepisi, Peter Weir and Jan Chapman.
"It's been a blend of writers, directors, cinematographers, exhibitors, producers - people that I regard as coming from the serious side rather than the more widely publicised glitzy side of the film industry.
"It's nice to be counted among these men and women that have made probably a more serious mark on the industry than I think I might have made. In getting this award one hopes it's a recognition of partly what I have done but partly also what we have done."...

It's a good day for funny people, especially if your name is Tina Fey or Seth MacFarlane.
Fey's series, 30 Rock, was handed 22 Emmy nominations this morning, which stands as a record for a comedy series. She and Alec Baldwin were also nominated for acting awards. Plus, for the first time some of the other actors on NBC's laffer were recognized. Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan all picked up supporting nominations.
MacFarlane's Family Guy was also nominated for best comedy series, the first time an animated show has cracked that category since The Flintstones in 1961. Two years ago MacFarlane decided to pull his show from contention in the animated series category to have it considered for best comedy.

By 1998 erotic thrillers were lucrative in the same way slashers were lucrative in the 80s. Only a few saw any kind of theatrical release, but as video stores tried to meet the supply and demand craze, lots of interesting movies popped up. It’s one of my favorite eras, and one of the most underappreciated, in the history of film. Sure it was a lot of boobs, some bullets and whatever other sensational things the filmmaker could think of, meaning it wasn’t exactly AFI material, but it was damn entertaining, and what more can you ask for on a Saturday night?...

"A man's got to know his limitations." So said Clint Eastwood in Magnum Force, and the same sage advice could be applied to film festivals. The third edition of the AFI Dallas International Film Festival bears evidence that the organizers and programmers recognize their limitations. Robert Koehler in Variety noted that the number of features has been cut nearly in half from last year's edition (from 150 to 77). Most of the screenings now take place at just two venues rather than three, making it easier to see more films.

British drama "Slumdog Millionaire" has another major award in its already impressive collection. The American Film Institute has named the pic one of the most significant films of the year.
The prestigious awards board has unveiled its list of "Eight Moments of Significance in Film, TV and Web." The list was chosen by a 13-person jury comprising of scholars, film artists, critics, and AFI trustees.
And although "Slumdog" wasn't included in their Top 10 Films of 2008, which was announced a few weeks before, AFI hailed the film for being "a celebration of the global film."
Tina Fey is also included in the notable "moments" list for her hilarious impersonation of Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin on "Saturday Night Live" and for her Emmy Award-winning NBC series.

Charlton Heston, whose chiseled-granite looks and commanding manner allowed him to portray some of history's most extraordinary men from Moses and Michelangelo to John the Baptist and El Cid, has died. He was 84.
The actor, who won an Oscar for the title role in 1959's "Ben-Hur," died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife Lydia at his side, said family spokesman Bill Powers, who declined to comment on the cause of death.
In 2002, Heston revealed in a videotaped statement that he had symptoms consistent with Alzheimer's disease. Saying, "I must reconcile courage and surrender in equal measure," he began to exit the public stage, where he was known for his work with SAG and the American Film Institute as well as for political activism that saw him take up causes...
