Watch any gymnastics competition broadcast featuring three-time world champion and four-time national champion Simone Biles and, "I run out of adjectives talking about her," former Olympic gold medalist and NBC gymnastics analyst Tim Daggett tells People. "Because of her dominance in the sport and how easy she makes the incredibly difficult things look, I would say that she is the greatest." Daggett is far from the only one who thinks so. Many more current and former gymnastics Olympians have said the 4'8" Biles, who is headed to Rio next month, is the best their sport has ever seen. Her Summer...

Gold medal-winning gymnast Nastia Liukin will make her debut as an Olympic gymnastics commentator at the 2016 Games in Rio this summer. "This is a huge deal! I'm so excited to be back," Liukin, 26, tells People. "I've been keeping track of all the gymnasts in the competitions leading up. I've gotten to know the gymnasts, their start values and their routines." She adds, "it's a little challenging, though, because when I'm commentating I have to remain neutral and I'm still friends with these girls, so that's hard for me!" The five-time Olympic medalist and two-time all-around national champion will join former Olympian Tim Daggett,...

Welcome to ‘What Is Your Damage,’ Annie Barrett’s summer shop of all the melodrama and self-absorption she misses from springtime reality TV. Every Tuesday and Friday, she’ll rant about a current offense to her humanity, then assess readers’ damages via video replies. Don’t be shy about admitting what annoys or intrigues you. We’re all in this pop cult together!
What’s your damage, Olympics commercials? Way to fuel my post-London depression. The Games are over but you’re still around, bringing back misty water-colored memories of the 17 days I spent cryling (crying/smiling) and Loving It on my couch.

American gymnast Aly Raisman earned a gold medal for her athletic prowess in London. It's her mom who's gone viral.
NBC's video of Lynn Raisman watching her daughter perform on the uneven bars Sunday, with her nervous murmurs and face and body contortions, was the single most replayed moment on Tivo digital video recorders that night. It has even inspired a YouTube spoof.
The network doesn't have "parent cams" trained on the stands during every Olympic event. Moms and dads are featured only when they are relevant to the story lines, veteran NBC producer Molly Solomon said Thursday. But they've already been indelible parts of the network's coverage in the first few days of the London Games.
The parents of American gymnasts John Orozco and Dannel Leyva were palpable presences during that sport's coverage. The bronze medal-winning Leyva's dad was his coach and a bundle of energy. NBC introduced Orozco's...

It’s trampoline time at the Olympics on Friday with live men’s qualifying on MSNBC and NBCOlympics.com at 9 a.m. Et, and the final following at 10:26 a.m. Et online and in primetime on NBC. (That’s U.S. champion Steven Gluckstein pictured. The women, including American competitor Savannah Vinsant, compete Aug. 4.) Commentator Tim Daggett, who says he stands the whole time because “I want to be able to duck,” shares three reasons why we should tune in.
1. Outrageous air. They go twentysomething feet in the air, about as high as your house. When you’re standing next to the trampoline,...

You better be wearing your hair in a messy bun right now (conditions permitting) in honor of Team U.S.A.’s Fab Five — Gabrielle Douglas, Alexandra Raisman, Jordyn Wieber, Kyla Ross, and McKayla Maroney. I don’t know about this Fab Five nonsense. They’ve always been the Spice Girls to me. Always. For like three days now. In Olympic years, that’s an eternity.
Get ready to relive this tape-delayed event yet again via a bunch of crappy photos I took with my iPhone!
This was no nail-biter, not in the slightest. Basically the silver-medalist Russians kept messing...

“The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat” may be the slogan for ABC’s defunct Wide World of Sports, but rarely has it been as apt as on the third day of NBC’s Olympic primetime coverage. The U.S. pulled in some major hardware in the swimming pool — though Ryan Lochte faltered for the second day in a row, and went home without a medal for the first time at this Olympics. America landed its first medal for men’s diving since 1996 — but diver Tom Daley, Great Britain’s most famous Olympian and one of its best chances for gold,...

With the men’s gymnastics underway today in London, the women prepare to take center stage on Sunday. Tim Daggett, a member of the 1984 gold-medal winning men’s U.S. team who’s calling his sixth Olympics for NBC, recalls well Kerri Strug’s vault that clinched the team gold in 1996. “As soon as she landed, I knew she did something on her first vault. As she’s walking back, she’s shaking out her ankle. I’m thinking, ooh, this doesn’t look good. The most punishing thing on your ankle in gymnastics is vault. I remember thinking if...

Olympic Stud of the Day, our daily celebration of an athlete’s winning performance and/or personality, is back. Usually, we choose an enthusiastic flagbearer for the Day 1 honor. But then, the Independent Olympic Athletes made their entrance during the Opening Ceremony’s fast-paced Parade of Nations and we remembered why we sit through a 4.5 hour telecast — for surprises like their dance routine stealing the show from Queen Elizabeth and James Bond (Daniel Craig), who pretend-parachuted into the stadium from a helicopter.

The Olympics will dominate sports coverage for the next two weeks — there’s no way to get around that. But, other non-Olympic sporting events will continue business as usual. If you’re not into watching the Games in London, we’ve provided an alternative list for the next few days.
Baseball
The Red Sox and The Yankees begin a three-game series in New York the same night as the opening ceremonies in London. And even though Boston ranks last in their division, a battle of the longtime rivals is always worth your attention. (For those not in Boston or New York,...

Ask Tim Daggett, who’s calling his sixth Olympics for NBC, for his favorite men’s gymnastics memory, and even before he mentions himself clinching the gold medal for the U.S. team in 1984 with a perfect 10 on high bar, he talks about Trent Dimas’ high bar gold from 1992. ”He was very good on high bar, but the U.S.A. at that point in time didn’t win medals, never mind gold medals. The gymnast before Trent went, there was a score discrepancy, and Trent’s waiting to go — he’s literally up on the podium chalking up and...

The London Games officially commence Friday (7:30 p.m. Et on NBC), and the gymnastics competition gets under way Saturday with the men’s team qualification (check NBCOlympics.com for the live stream schedule, and watch NBC’s primetime coverage that night). Before he headed abroad, we asked Tim Daggett, a member of the gold-medal winning ’84 U.S. Men’s gymnastics team who’ll be calling his sixth Olympics for NBC, to tell us five ways he prepares.

The Summer Olympics have become so huge that they will already be underway for two days before the opening ceremonies air Friday on NBC.
The ceremonies mark the official kickoff of the Games and subsequent 16 days of coverage on NBC and its owned cable channels plus Spanish-language Telemundo, which NBC also owns.
You might say the unofficial kickoff of the Olympics comes Wednesday at the unassuming time of 4:55 a.m. on MSNBC when the Us women's soccer team takes on Norway. It is the first event listed on NBC's voluminous Olympics schedule, which encompasses 3,600 hours of coverage.
