Singapore’s Robot Playground Media (Rpm) and Valencia-based co-producer TV On Producciones (Top) have commenced production on animated feature film “The Violinist,” it was revealed at the Asia TV Forum and Market.
The film was unveiled at a presentation attended by the representatives of Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (Imda) and the Spanish Embassy in Singapore.
Set during WWII-era Singapore and Malaya, the film will follow two young violinists, Kai and Fei, whose dreams are shattered with the Japanese invasion of Southeast Asia. Kai abandons his music career to join the resistance in Perak, Malaya, while Fei becomes a war survivor in Japanese-occupied Singapore. Their lives take vastly different paths over the span of decades as they try to hold onto the promise of performing a two-violin sonata together one day.

Second edition of the scheme will take place in Veneto in June and Amsterdam in September.
Lava Films’ Mariusz Wlodarski from Poland and Topkapi Films’ Frans van Gestel from the Netherlands are among 12 producers selected for the second edition of Ace Leadership Special, a business workshop hosted by the Ace Producers network.
The 2023 edition will take place in Italy in June and in the Netherlands in September, with online elements over the summer.

Eight animated TV series projects involving Spanish companies will be presented to buyers and producers attending 2022 Cartoon Forum’s pitching sessions, the event’s main attraction.
Among well-known production companies presenting their latest cartoon shows figure In Efecto Atlantis, the Spanish-French studio behind Disney’s series “Tara Duncan;”Sygnatia, the producer of multi-award winning animated film “Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles,” and Peekaboo Animation, creator of world sales hit series “I, Elvis Riboldi.”
Two of the Spanish projects selected (“My Brother is a T-Rez” and “Polka Dot Zebra”) target preschoolers; five titles are intended for older children; “Firsts” aims for family audiences.
“The eight magnificent Spanish series demonstrate the wealth of knowledge and talent Spain has generated since we began to develop the industry in the 60s,” says Nico Matji, chairman of Diboos, the Spanish federation of animation producers and VFX production companies.

“Journey to Yourland,” “Lumières!” and “Sex Symbols” proved standouts at Cartoon Next, a new event launched by European association Cartoon Media to explore the ever more hybrid reality of the animation industry as well as other current cutting edge trends.
VR, Extended Reality (Xr), cross-media and IP extensions were the event’s buzzwords.

“Su Hotza” follows an intrepid journalist who enters the hermetic world of haute cuisine to investigate the accidental death of a mysterious diner in a high-end restaurant and soon discovers the seamy side of San Sebastian. For two decades, Aldarondo has forged a multidisciplinary profile that encompasses the worlds of advertising, television, video and short films. He is currently helming documentary “Simulacro,” about musician Rafael Berrio, and is in post on his short film “Poseidon Oporretan.”
“Print!” Paloma Mora and María Mínguez
Mora is the creator, scriptwriter, co-writer and producer, together with Mínguez, of the fiction series “Print !” which follows the working class Martínez family. After the patriarch is fired from his job at the printing company, fate and chance convert them into occasional bill counterfeiters. The family must safeguard their secret as they begin to lead a double life.

“Winnipeg, Seeds of Hope,” “Bffs! Best Friends Forever Stranded!” and “Sex Symbols” are among five new finalists selected to participate in La Liga, the animation umbrella created to promote the Ibero-American animation sector worldwide between Spain’s Quirino Awards, Argentina’s Animation! and Mexico’s Pixelatl Festival.
The eventual winning project will be chosen at the upcoming edition of the Quirino Awards in April and given the opportunity to pitch at La Liga in Focus at Annecy Intl. Animation Film Festival’s Mifa market.
“Winnipeg, Seeds of Hope” is co-produced by Toni Marín at La Ballesta (Spain) and Marianne Mayer-Beckh at El Otro Film (Chile). Based on Laura Martel’s script from her graphic novel, “Winnipeg, Neruda’s Ship,” it tells the story of the ship that Chilean poet Pablo Neruda chartered to save more than 2,000 Spanish refugees in France after the Spanish Civil War. It’s directed by Elio Quiroga (“The Cold Hour”).
