Today, Underworld director Len Wiseman signed on to direct a supernatural sci-fi thriller titled Black Chapter for Skydance Productions. The project, which boasts a script from The Incredible Hulk writer Zak Penn, will focus on an FBI agent “who is drawn into a classified military program that trains its operatives to use paranormal abilities.”
Though the Hellboy series (among others) utilized a similar-sounding set-up, the sky’s really the limit for where Penn and Wiseman (who collaborated with Penn on the original story) can take Black Chapter.
Paul Schwake will executive produce for Skydance Productions, while David Bernardi will executive produce for Wiseman’s Sketch Films. Wiseman will produce alongside David Ellison and Dana Goldberg of Skydance Productions. Of the project, Ellison said:

Bride of Frankenstein will be the latest horror remake to emerge from Universal and Imagine! The classic iconic image of a female monster (the first one in film?) is going to be reimagined for the 21st century by Neil Burger (The Illusionist), who will write and direct. Bride of Frankenstein has only been remade one other time, in 1985 starring Sting and Jennifer Beals. Who will play the Bride this time around?

Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment, who appear to be the popular studio of this week with their entourage of films, electrocutes some life into the remake of The Bride of Frankenstein. The polished version is being written and directed by visually intriguing director Neil Burger, the same man who penned and helmed the Edward Norton starring film The Illusionist. About five years ago, “American Splendor” scribes Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini were attached to write the screenplay for the Uni/Imagine update.
