Exclusive: Deadline has an exclusive 17-minute suite composed by Henry Jackman for Joe and Anthony Russo’s Netflix tentpole The Gray Man, which hits select theaters today, and will make its way to the streamer on July 22.
The action-thriller is the most expensive Netflix has made to date, at a production budget north of 200M. It centers on CIA operative Court Gentry (Ryan Gosling)—aka, Sierra Six. Plucked from a federal penitentiary and recruited by his handler, Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton), Gentry was once a highly-skilled, Agency-sanctioned merchant of death. But now the tables have turned and Six is the target, hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), a psychopathic former cohort at the CIA, who will stop at nothing to take him out. Fortunately, Agent Dani Miranda (Ana De Armas) has his back.

In the first trailer for Marvel’s “Morbius,” Jared Leto sheds his “Joker” persona as he transforms into the vampiresque super villain.
Based on the comic books created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane in 1971, the antagonist’s origin story follows Michael Morbius (Leto), a biochemist in search of a cure for his rare blood disease. However, he accidentally injects himself with vampirism, giving him bat-like superpowers like echo-location and an insatiable thirst for blood. “Lost in Space” co-creators Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the script.
The vengeful vampire appeared periodically throughout the Marvel franchise. He made his first appearance in a 1971 issue of “The Amazing Spider-Man,” and was eventually brought back in the 1992 series, “Morbius, the Living Vampire.” The revival produced 32 issues before ending in 1995.
Adria Arjona stars alongside Leto as the villain’s fiancee Martine Bancroft. Jared Harris, Matt Smith, and Tyrese Gibson round out the cast.

2019 may have just begun, but 2020 is already shaping up to be a memorable year for horror cinema, as the Morbius movie and new Ghostbusters film now have release dates in 2020 from Sony.
According to Exhibitor Relations, Morbius (based on the Spider-Man villain Morbius the Living Vampire) is set to come out on July 31st, 2020, with the new Ghostbusters slated for a July 10th, 2020 theatrical release.
Variety recently reported that Matt Smith (perhaps best known for playing the Eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who) is "in final talks" to play a yet-to-be-revealed "major role" in the Morbius movie.
Last June, multiple sources, including Variety, previously reported that Jared Leto will play the titular character in a Morbius movie directed by Daniel Espinosa. Leto has reportedly been interested in bringing the character to life on screen for a while, but wanted to make sure that he was on the same creative page with whoever directed the project.

Out of all of the superheroes in the Marvel Comics universe, Spider-Man's lineup of villains is perhaps the most eclectic, intriguing, and horrifying. Morbius the Living Vampire is certainly no exception, and with Venom and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse enjoying big box office runs, it's no surprise that Sony is looking to expand their own "Spider-Verse" with a movie based on Morbius, with Jared Leto in the lead role and Matt Smith now potentially joining the film's cast.

Matt Smith is in final talks to join Jared Leto in “Morbius,” a film based on the Spider-Man villain of the same name.
“Safe House” director Daniel Espinosa will helm the movie. Exact details of who Smith would play are unknown at this time, other than it being a major role in the film.
Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, who co-created the Netflix series “Lost in Space,” penned the script. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing “Morbius” with Lucas Foster. Palak Patel will oversee the pic for Sony.
Writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane created Morbius in 1971 for “The Amazing Spider-Man #101.” The character was a scientist who tried to cure himself of a blood disease, with tragic results. Exclusive: Adria Arjona is in talks to play Martine, the female lead in Sony’s Morbius feature film which has Jared Leto starring. Daniel Espinosa is directing the Spider-Man Universe spinoff based on Marvel Comics’ antihero Morbius the Living Vampire.
Created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane, the renowned biochemist Dr. Michael Morbius first debuted in the 1970s The Amazing Spider-Man #101 issue. He attempts to cure a fatal blood disease by injecting himself with a treatment serum derived from bats, which transforms him into the anti-hero Morbius. He has all the qualities of a vampire, including a taste for human blood.
In the comics, Martine, who is engaged to Morbius, becomes a potential victim to his bloodlust as he grapples with the transformation that has made him a weird laboratory version of the supernatural vampires of lore.
Sony declined to comment on Arjona.
Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama co-wrote the Morbius script.

Sony has tapped “The Equalizer” screenwriter Richard Wenk to write “Kraven the Hunter” based on the Marvel comic, TheWrap has learned.
The project is being billed as the next chapter of Sony’s universe of Marvel-licensed characters. Palak Patel is overseeing for Sony.
Born into Russian aristocracy, Sergei Kravinoff a.k.a. Kraven the Hunter is an obsessive big-game hunter who was introduced as a Spider-Man villain in “The Amazing Spider-Man” #15 (1964). According to Fandom, Kravinoff began his career using the typical tools of the hunter but over time he developed a preference to take down large animals with his bare hands. After meeting a Voodoo witch doctor named Calypso, Kravinoff took a herbal potion which enhanced his physical powers give him the strength, speed and senses to match a jungle cat. The potion also extended his life keeping his health and vitality for years to come.
“Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler at one time wanted to include Kraven in the hit Marvel film.
“Being a Marvel fan, you want to grab all the characters,” Coogler told Yahoo! Movies. “There was a Christopher Priest run that was pretty heavy, there’s a big scene where Panther’s fighting Kraven, Kraven the Hunter.”
“I’ve always loved Kraven the Hunter in almost every iteration,” Coogler added. “So there was a moment– ‘Can I grab Kraven?’ and they were ‘Nah, you don’t have Kraven.’ He was one where I thought, ‘Oh, man.’ But I don’t even know if he would have worked in the movie we ended up with, this was the early days.”

Wenk is repped by Gersh, The Arlook Group and Schreck, Rose.

Out of all of the superheroes in the Marvel universe, Spider-Man's lineup of villains is perhaps the most eclectic, intriguing, and horrifying. Morbius the Living Vampire is certainly no exception, and with a Venom movie due out this October, the studio is wasting no time developing other characters in Spider-Man's cinematic universe, with Jared Leto reportedly now taking on the role of Morbius in a movie of the same name.
Multiple sources, including Variety, report that Leto will play the titular character in a Morbius movie directed by Daniel Espinosa. Leto has reportedly been interested in bringing the character to life on screen for a while, but wanted to make sure that he was on the same creative page with whoever directed the project. Espinosa and Leto had a meeting, their creative visions gelled, and now they are both moving forward on the film.

Breaking: Jared Leto and director Daniel Espinosa are being set by Sony for Morbius, a Spider-Man Universe spinoff based on the Marvel Comics antihero Morbius the Living Vampire. Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, creators of Netflix’s Lost in Space, wrote the script.
Leto, who played the iconic character The Joker in DC’s Suicide Squad and has been mentioned for a bunch of potential Joker-centric spinoffs, here will play Dr. Michael Morbius, a biochemist who in an attempt to cure a fatal blood disease injects himself with a treatment serum derived from bats. He becomes the anti-hero Morbius. He has all the qualities of a vampire, including a taste for human blood. The character originated in the ’70s Marvel Comics as a Spider-Man nemesis in The Amazing Spider-Man #101, but he evolved into his own freestanding comic hero as the decades unfolded.
Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce with Lucas Foster.

Spider-Man’s web just got wider.
Sony has tapped Jared Leto to star in the spinoff “Morbius,” based on the Spidey villain of the same name. Sources also tell Variety that “Safe House” director Daniel Espinosa will helm the movie.
Leto has been loosely attached to the project for some time, but wouldn’t fully commit until he knew the film was headed in the right direction. He asked to meet with several of the filmmakers who were up for the job. Espinosa met with Leto last month in Germany while Leto was touring with his band Thirty Seconds to Mars, which eventually led to him nabbing the job.
Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing “Morbius” with Lucas Foster.
The film was penned by the team of Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who worked on Netflix’s “Lost in Space” series. Palak Patel will oversee the pic for the studio.

Exclusive: Sony Pictures has closed a life rights deal with singer/songwriter Halsey. The hope is to develop a movie loosely based on her life, which she would star in. I’m told the closest cousin to what they hope for here is a vehicle that does for her what 8 Mile did for Eminem.
How did this happen? The studio often meets youthful for roles in its movies, and the decision after the meeting with Halsey was that the best course was to sculpt a vehicle for her, and about her. Halsey is a 23-year old biracial charismatic singer and social activist from New Jersey who is currently in Australia touring her latest album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom. She made headlines recently for a rousing speech given during the Women’s March in D.C. in March. Her hits include Now Or Never, Him and I, and Bad At Love.

For months we have been told that in no way will Tom Holland’s Spider-Man be making an appearance in Venom. News to the contrary has emerged from the mouth of documentary director Jon Schnepp.

Speaking on Collider’s Movie Talk, The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? director stated that Holland’s Spider-Man will be making an appearance;
“Spider-Man is going to be in Venom. For the last couple of months, we’ve been hearing how Sony is keeping it all separated, and Spider-Man is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but every other character that’s in the Spider-Man universe is separate. All I’m saying is that Spider-Man – and I’m talking about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man – is going to be in Venom.”
Tom Hardy leads the cast as Eddie Brock, who in the comics was a photographer; Brock later becomes Venom after bonding with a Symbiote.

Word on the street has Woody Harrelson currently in talks to join Tom Hardy in Sony Pictures forthcoming Spider-Man spin-off, Venom.

As with previous casting announcements, Sony has been keeping a very tight lip, but Harrelson could well be placed in the role as some sort of henchman – we’re thinking maybe something along the lines of his character Colonel in this year’s War for the Planet of the Apes.
Ruben Fleischer is directing the comic-book outing which could see Harrelson join Hardy, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate on the cast.
Scott Rosenberg (“Jumanji”) and Jeff Pinkner (“The Dark Tower”) have written the script for “Venom,” with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach producing the movie, along with Amy Pascal. Palak Patel are overseeing the project for Columbia Pictures.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War stars Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road, Monster) as the evil Queen Ravenna, who betrays her good sister Freya (Emily Blunt: Sicario, Edge of Tomorrow) with an unforgivable act, freezing Freya’s heart to love and unleashing in her an icy power she never knew she possessed. Retreating to a kingdom far to the north, Freya raises an army of Huntsmen as her protectors, with the only rule that no two of them should ever fall in love. As a war for domination escalates between the two queens, the hero standing between good and evil is Freya’s most elite Huntsman, Eric (Chris Hemsworth: Thor, Star Trek Into Darkness). Alongside fellow warrior Sara (Jessica Chastain: The Martian, The Help) — the only woman who has ever captured his heart — Eric must help Freya vanquish her sister or Ravenna’s wickedness will rule for eternity.

In the wake of the success of the R-rated Fox/Marvel feature "Deadpool", based on the Marvel Comics superhero, an R-Rated "Venom" solo feature film, spinning off from "Spider-Man", has been greenlit at Sony, with Dante Harper ("Edge Of Tomorrow") writing the screenplay for producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach:
'Venom', aka the 'Venom Symbiote', was originally a super-villain sentient alien, debuting in Marvel Comics' "The Amazing Spider-Man" #300 (May 1988), before evolving into an antihero, requiring a host to bond with for its survival.
The first known host was 'Spider-Man', who eventually separated himself from the creature when he discovered its true nature. The Symbiote went on to merge with other hosts.
According to the 'Marvel Universe', the creature is considered one of the greatest threats to humanity, alongside 'Magneto', 'Doctor Doom' and the 'Red Skull'.

Sony Pictures has tapped Tron 3 scribe Jesse Wigutow to adapt acclaimed comic book series, Descender.
That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, noting that after first acquiring the property almost exactly a year ago, the big-screen rendition of Jeff Lemire’s sci-fi tale is finally beginning to gain a sense of momentum. Indeed, Wigutow will be hoping for better luck with this current deal, given that he penned treatments for Relativity’s long-gestating The Crow remake along with Brian Michael Bendis’ Fire, neither of which have entered production in earnest.
Descender very much acts as a new platform for the scribe, then, and the original source material imagines a “sprawling, science-fiction space opera full of mystery and adventure. For those unfamiliar, Descender tells the heart-felt cosmic odyssey about “a little boy looking for home in a universe that hates and fears him. The incredibly lifelike artificial boy, Tim-21, may...

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have certainly not been resting on their laurels since their phenomenally successful show Smallville came to an end in 2011. Having written the film I Am Number Four, and penned several episodes of the 2011 series Charlie’s Angels, they have now sold a script to Columbia Pictures that features one of the most enduring characters in literature – Captain Nemo.
As the creation of French author Jules Verne, Captain Nemo made his first appearance in the classic novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea in 1870. A mysterious and enigmatic character, he is revealed to be the scientific genius son of an Indian Raja and, as such, is also known as Prince Dakkar. Obsessed with marine exploration and discovery, he invents a deep-sea submarine named the Nautilus, and embarks on incredible adventures. A main feature of the character is his extensive loathing of Imperialism – particularly as perpetrated by the British Empire.
