“Truth won’t win the battle… menace will,” tough-as-nails “Yellowstone” patriarch John Dutton utters coldly and indignantly in the lead-up to the devastating conclusion of a rip-roaring first half of the Paramount Network blockbuster’s fifth season. The first eight episodes of the show’s fifth season concluded in January, so fans of TV’s top-rated show are now clamoring for the series’ return. The second half of the season is due later this year, promising even more bloodshed and tears, political in-fighting, back-stabbing, fist-fights and corporate scheming set against the breathtaking backdrop of the unforgiving Montana wilderness.
In the meantime, to tide you over until the show’s return and to celebrate the acclaimed first half of Season 5, watch our special 40-minute “Making of” roundtable discussion with six key behind-the-scenes crafts artisans — costume designer Johnetta Boone, Emmy-nominated production designer Yvonne Boudreaux, editor Chad Galster A.C.E., makeup department head Greg Moon,...

Aside from the Paramount Network drama Yellowstone completing a third season as cable TV’s most watched show, the drama received its first Emmy nomination, for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program.
The MTV Entertainment Studios-produced series stars Kevin Costner and is written by Taylor Sheridan and has the benefit of spectacular outdoor vistas in Montana. But the responsibility to create the look of the sets falls to production designer Cary White, set decorator Carly Curry and art director Yvonne Boudreaux, who all joined the series’ panel at Deadline’s Contenders Television: The Nominees awards-season event.
“Shooting in Montana and the backdrop, we couldn’t be in a better location,” said Boudreaux. “The show is about the struggle for land, and having this enormous ranch and holding onto it, and we are lucky to be in one of the most beautiful places in Montana…being able to...

“I was sitting here minding my own business and the art director sitting next to me said, ‘you will never guess what happened! We’ve just been nominated for an Emmy!’ I was like, ‘come on, that’s not right,'” an incredulous Cary White jokes about his surprise production design bid for “Yellowstone.”
It’s the first ever nomination for the hit show and his third career nom, decades after his first two, for “Buffalo Girls” in 1995 and “Lonesome Dove” in 1989. “You know, I think it may be a lifetime achievement sort of deal they’re doing here, I’m not sure,” he smiles. Watch our exclusive video interview with White above.

After years in the making, the documentary 61 Bullets will screen at Austin Film Festival next weekend. The film, which won an Afs Grant and was partially backed through Kickstarter, is the latest project from Austin director David Modigliani (Crawford). He and co-director Louisiana (Lucy) Kreutz worked with producer Yvonne Boudreaux to delve into the story behind the death of famed Louisiana governor/controversial figure Huey Long.
Before Aff kicks off, the filmmakers answered some questions for me via email about what led them to make the film and the process involved.
Slackerwood (for Boudreaux): Can you talk about your connection to this historical event, and what drew you to look deeper into the circumstances of Huey Long’s death?
Yvonne Boudreaux: "No one has ever told the story right," my grandmother Ida Boudreaux said to me when I was an eighth grader studying Louisiana history. I was working...

We’re really excited to engage Dance With The One this Tuesday. This film is the first production of the newly formed University of Texas Film Institute, a program designed to get student and alumni involvement in feature film production in a hands-on way. With no creative input from non U-Texans and no financing from outside investors, Utfi films are truly the products of this important and vibrant Austin community.
As the first film coming out of Utfi, Dance With The One is a triumph. The film played in competition at SXSW this year, an incredible honor and a veritable coup for an infant studio. Since then, the film has played in numerous festivals, including the AFI Dallas International Film Festival.
Dance With The One was made by over 120 Ut/Utfi students, in all facets of pre-production, production and post-production, including writer Smith Henderson (Mfa ‘08 Michener Center for Writers); director...
