There is a particular focus on comedies.
TorinoFilmLab (Tfl) has selected 20 projects for its ScriptLab 2023, plus five story editors, in what it describes as the first ‘fully international’ iteration of the annual development scheme.
The 20 projects come from 20 writer-directors and eight co-writers, and have been selected from 550 submissions.

Those selected will take part in three week-long residential modules in April, June and November; with two online modules in September and October. The participants will be divided into five groups, and tutored by script consultants Philippe Barriere, Severine Cornamusaz, Aleksandra Swierk, Marietta von Hausswolff and Gino Ventriglia.

Filmax has acquired international rights to the 1970s-set womens rights drama In The Company Of Women, directed by Spanish actress-turned-director Silvia Munt, and is presenting a promo to buyers in Berlin.
Inspired by real events, In The Company Of Women is about a group of women from Rentería, in the Basque Country, who fought for women rights in Spain throughout the 1970s, helping many to cross the border into France, where they were able to secure safe and dignified abortions.

A total of eight feature films will make up the San Sebastian Festival’s Zinemira section, dedicated to cinema produced in the Basque Country. Five premieres and three titles produced this year make up the selection.
Four of the premieres will compete for the Irizar Basque Film Award, alongside films with at least 20% of Basque production and others presented as world premieres in any of the Festival sections. The Irizar Award will be decided by a specific jury and includes a $27,000 (€20,000) prize for the producer or producers of the winning film.
The Zinemira Award, granted by the Festival and the Producers Associations Epe/Ava and Ibaia to the career of an outstanding personality from the Basque film world, will go this year to Juan Bautista Berasategi, a cartoonist and producer from Gipuzkoa, and a pioneer...
