At the beginning of the fourth season of "Star Trek: Lower Decks," Ensigns Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Boimler (Jack Quaid), Tendi (Noël Wells), and Rutherford (Eugene Cordero) were all promoted to Lieutenant, Junior Grade. This meant that each of them now had the ability to give orders to the remaining ensigns on the U.S.S. Cerritos and were afforded the privilege of private quarters. As ensigns, they had to sleep on bunks in a hallway and keep all their personal belongings inside tiny, drawer-like dressers embedded in the wall. There was no privacy. Since its very first episode, Star Trek: Lower Decks has excavated the most embarrassing parts of Star Trek lore, refusing to let even tangential parts of the franchise go forgotten. The Next Generation‘s second-worst enemy race the Pakleds became major antagonists in Lower Decks, and Boimler showed unironic appreciation for a Tom Paris commemorative plate. Heck, even the Space Fun Helmet made a brief appearance.
So it’s no surprise that Lower Decks would eventually get around to one of the great debates in Star Trek history: how do you solve a problem like Tuvix? Directed by Cliff Bole, the Voyager season two episode “Tuvix” used that old Trek standby, a transporter accident, to pose a knotty moral quandary. Sneak Peek leaked test-footage, plus images from director Barry J. Kelly's cartoon-violence "Deadpool" animated TV series, that was passed on by FX after 'creative differences' with producers David Glover and Stephen Glover:
FX ordered the 10-episode series May 2017 from animation house Titmouse, for the 'Fxx' comedy channel, with the Glover brothers as executive producers and showrunners.
According to FX: "Due to creative differences, FX, Donald Glover, Stephen Glover and Marvel Television have agreed to part ways on Marvel's 'Deadpool' animated series. FX will no longer be involved with the project. FX and Marvel have an ongoing relationship through our partnership on 'Legion', which will continue..."
