Three of the UK’s most sought-after creatives — James Graham, Michael Sheen and Adam Curtis — are combining on a BBC drama that imagines a civil uprising beginning in a small industrial town.
The Way is being penned by Sherwood creator Graham, directed by Good Omens star Sheen in his TV helming debut, and co-created by the pair with documentary auteur Curtis whose past credits include The Power off Nightmares and HyperNormalisation.
The trio’s three-parter will “tap into the social and political chaos of today’s world” via a civil uprising, the BBC said. It follows the Driscolls, an ordinary family caught in a chain of events and power struggles that forces them to escape the country they’ve always called home and the certainties of their old lives.

The glut of shows being pulled from streaming services continues.
Starz has pulled a trio of titles – Dangerous Liaisons, Becoming Elizabeth and Step Up from its streaming service. All three titles have been canceled but it’s another example of a company taking finished shows off their own service.
It comes after HBO Max pulled series such as Westworld, The Nevers, Raised By Wolves, The Time Traveler’s Wife as well as a slew of reality shows including FBoy Island and a raft of animated titles from its service last year.
Over the weekend, HBO Max also pulled a number of episodes of the original Looney Tunes, including seasons 16 to 31, as well as three seasons of The Flintstones. These shows were removed after their licenses expired.
The strategy at Warner Bros. Discovery was in part formed by tax write offs that it could gain after the merger, as well as interest...

Starz is already smitten with its Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont: The network has renewed Dangerous Liaisons for a second season, ahead of its November debut.
“Dangerous Liaisons is addictive, provocative and beautifully rendered,” said Kathryn Busby, President, Original Programming at Starz. “This prelude to the famed 18th century novel illuminates pre-revolution Paris at its most decadent. We are confident that by the end of season one viewers will be craving more scheming and seduction.”
The drama stars Alice Englert as the Marquise de Merteuil and Nicholas Denton as Vicomte de Valmont. It focuses on the origin story of the two iconic characters when they met on the eve of the revolution in Paris. The series also stars Kosar Ali, Carice Van Houten, Hilton Pelser, Fisayo Akinade, Michael McElhatton, Nathanael Saleh, Colette Dalal Tchantcho, Hakeem Kae-Kazim and Tom Wlaschiha.

"Dangerous Liaisons" is getting a television adaptation on Starz, the network behind "Outlander" and "American Gods." The 1782 French epistolary novel from Pierre Choderlos de Laclos is becoming an eight-episode series, which will debut on November 6, 2022. The book has seen multiple adaptations over the years, including the three-time Academy Award-winning 1989 film starring John Malkovich and Glenn Close. Then there's "Cruel Intentions," the 1999 modern adaptation which reimagines the classic story against the backdrop of wealthy high school teenagers in New York City.
The critically-acclaimed story will now head to television and the focus will be on the origin story of the novel's characters. The Starz series will illustrate how Marquise de Merteuil (Alice Englert) and the Vicomte de Valmont (Nicholas Denton) met as passionate young lovers in Paris and will represent the extravagance of the French aristocracy ahead of the French revolution. The BBC is replacing Merlin in the schedules with Greek myth family adventure show, Atlantis, written by Misfits’ Howard Overman…
Picture the scene: it’s Saturday teatime at the end of September, the leaves are turning, there’s a wisp of bonfire smoke in the chill air and the shops are already stocked with Christmas decorations. Refreshments in hand, you wedge yourself onto the sofa next to your family/significant other/Japanese love pillow, and switch on BBC One. But there’s a problem: no Merlin.
No Merlin? No matter. The BBC has some brand new family teatime viewing in store for you (brand new, yet very, very old) in the form of historical fantasy, Atlantis. Taking over from the Arthurian legend’s time slot will be a new thirteen-part series which will delve even further back into the annals of myth to entertain us on those crisp autumn evenings.
