Sue Jeiven is a tiny, ebullient woman. That’s probably the first thing you notice about her. She radiates energy, excitement — all of those “e” words. Actually, the tattoos are the first thing you notice about her. She’s quite literally covered; all the standard places, sure, but also her fingers, palms and face — three tiny dots in a triangle by her right eye. It’s likely she’s also wearing Mr. T amounts of gold chains and some leopard print. An astoundingly talented tattoo artist, Sue works at East River Tattoo in Brooklyn and regularly makes the list of...

I moderated a panel at New York Comic Con called The 7 Archetypes of Comic Shops. My All-Star panelists included several outstanding comic shop retailers. It was a fascinating time with lots of surprises – remind me to tell you about Marc (Aw, Yeah) Hammond’s Frank Gorshin story someday. We had a packed room and it evolved into a celebration of smart retailing and Geek Culture.
The new kid on the block was Jeff Beck, an ambitious retailer who just opened a comic shop called East Side Mags in Montclair, NJ. It’s a great store and you might remember I was impressed when I visited it during my marathon comic shop travels on Free Comic Book Day. I sat down with Jeff and here’s what he had to say:

Headlining the 13th annual Bonnaroo will be Elton John, Kanye West, Jack White, Lionel Richie, Vampire Weekend, The Avett Brothers, Phoenix, Skrillex, Arctic Monkeys, Frank Ocean and The Flaming Lips.
Also heading to the Great Stage Park this summer will be Neutral Milk Hotel, Wiz Khalifa, Cut Copy, The Head and the Heart, Lauryn Hill, Broken Bells, Ice Cube, Slightly Stoopid, Fitz and The Tantrums, Cake, Janelle Monae, Amos Lee and John Butler Trio.
West was a surprise choice for the festival, which hasn’t had the rapper in their lineup since 2008 when he walked onto the stage nearly two hours after his scheduled set time. Though he tried to blame Pearl Jam’s extended set, the crowd united in booing him.

The always epic Bonnaroo — a four-day music and camping festival on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tenn. — boasts some huge names this year. The festival has just confirmed its headliners will be Kanye West, Elton John, Jack White and Lionel Richie. Watch the festival's teaser video and check out the 125 plus artists on the lineup below. The festival’s thirteenth year, which goes down June 12-15, will mark the surprising return of West, whose headlining set in 2008 turned into a disaster when his Glow In The Dark-themed light show didn’t start until after sunrise. Ye posted an angry rant on his blog blaming Bonnaroo organizers, but it seems that all is now forgiven. This year will mark Elton John and Lionel Richie’s first ever appearance. Tickets go on sale Feb. 22 at noon Est. Here’s the full Bonnaroo lineup: Elton John Kanye West Jack White Lionel Richie Vampire Weekend...

You may know Myke Hideous from the bands The Empire Hideous, SpySociety99, The Misfits and The Bronx Casket Co. He also wrote an autobiography about his life and times in the music industry, King Of An Empire To The Shoes Of A Misfit.
Director Pawl Bazile’s film Living the American Nightmare was released in 2011. The documentary tells Myke’s story in the industry through interviews with fellow musicians.
There’s been a bit of drama surrounding this documentary. Pawl Bazile had this to say about Myke’s interviews in the film:
“One of the funniest aspects of the film is how seriously Myke Hideous takes himself in comparison to the other guys in his band. And when you see that, and as the film cuts back and forth, you see the other guys are really light-hearted about everything and then Myke is staring at the camera intently and pointing his finger.

Before we dive into the first installment of “Now & Then”, I want to just take a few moments to explain exactly what it is. In “Now & Then” movies, both horror and non-horror will be analyzed from the point of view of seeing the film at a younger age and then the point of view of watching it in the present. The movie I have chosen for the first installment is a movie that is very important to me and influenced me immensely growing up the 1996 independent classic Glory Daze from writer/director Rich Wilkes.
Glory Daze is the story of a group of tight knit friends in college who find themselves two days away from graduation. Jack (Ben Affleck) is starting to panic as he starts to contemplate what the future holds for him and begins to worry that the last few years were the high point and everything else...

As you can probably tell from virtually every single thing ever written about them, rough-and-tumble rockers the Gaslight Anthem are from New Jersey — and proudly so.
So, of course, after they field the obligatory Bruce Springsteen question — something they've always brought upon themselves, especially with their new album, the just-released American Slang — the follow-up question always seems to be about MTV's hit show "Jersey Shore." Rather to their chagrin ...
"People say it's this 'movement,' but is it really a 'movement'? " drummer Benny Horowitz laughed backstage at the Hard Rock Calling fest in London. "As somebody from Jersey, that sh-- has been there forever. So to me, they've been the reason I've stayed out of Seaside Heights, New Jersey, for about 15 years.
"It's funny," he continued.

Ever since the Boston Celtics bounced the Cleveland Cavaliers from the NBA playoffs last week, the question on the mind of every sports writer, basketball fan and resident of Cleveland has been the same: Where will LeBron James end up once his contract expires and he enters into free agency on July 1? Despite his underwhelming performance in the playoffs this year, James may be the most coveted free agent in the history of the NBA, as he is undoubtedly one of the games greatest players and an incredibly dynamic presence who could easily change the face of a franchise.

To close out their 20th Anniversary Celebration (which we first told you about here), Bouncing Souls have released their final single in their "song of the month" series. "Never Say Die/When you're Young" is described by the band as "3 chords and a message to end the year with. Find the truth inside, express it, and never give up."

While it’s correct to assume that horror movies and metal go hand in hand, there was a time where that conceit was only half true. During the 1980s, punk had just as much of a stake in the realm of the terrifying, providing beloved soundtracks (see: Return Of The Living Dead) and horror inspired legends like The Misfits and The Cramps.
Born out of that era and very much influenced by those aforementioned acts and many others was a New Jersey punk outfit that have since become mythic and legendary themselves, The Bouncing Souls. Having sustained their classic upbeat sound and still churning out tunes with a fury and fervor, they are akin to our Stuart Gordons or Joe Dantes, whose classic films never lose their charm, yet can produce something new, fresh and eagerly awaited. Currently, the band is celebrating their 20th anniversary with a year’s worth of digital releases,...

Of all the bands that have drafted new converts in the past year, Gaslight Anthem is easily one of the most active recruiters. The rock outfit released "The '59 Sound" in August last year, its second effort in only two-and-a-half years, and acclaim poured in. Formed in New Brunswick, N.J., the four-piece comes from the same territorial pedigree as bands like Pavement, Bouncing Souls, Thursday and Lifetime, plus a well-known basement punk scene. Gaslight Anthem, however, is burrowing its way into the mainstream, sounding of the straightforward rock grit of Kings Of Leon, with the attitude of the Replacements and histrionics...
