It's always exciting when a series revisits old characters and storylines.
On When Calls the Heart, Season 11 Episode 6, Thomas Higgins, Elizabeth's old foe and the Superintendent of the School Board, returns to cause trouble.
According to the weekly promo and the photos, he seems even more determined to destroy her career and reputation than he was before.
Thomas Higgins last appeared in When Calls the Heart Season 4 Episode 11 when he wrote a letter that caused Elizabeth to get fired. He only wrote it because she turned him down and sexually harassed her again, hinting he would make it disappear if she dated him.
Elizabeth found proof that he had sexually harassed other teachers, too, and was reinstated, so Higgens likely carries a massive grudge against her.
It's a shame we couldn't bring back Landis instead. While initially set in his ways about how the Valley School District should be run,...

When Calls the Heart finally put some "heart" back in the series.
When Calls the Heart Season 11 Episode 5 showcased how strong the Hope Valley community was when they worked together and banded together to save Lucas's new resort.
"Stronger Together" explored multiple other subplots and relationships, including whether Nathan and Elizabeth would finally admit their feelings to each other.
Lucas never expected so many issues with clearing the Hope Valley resort, but some were vehemently opposed to it.
The problem was that Mike's sister, Maisy, was the biggest hurdle in their way.
The men only saw her as a problem they needed to overcome, while Mei was worried about getting Maisy to relax and open up.
Since Mei viewed her as a person, Maisy admitted her physical ailments and why she was so demanding about the resort.
It seemed no one took her concerns seriously in Benson Hills, either. They...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for When Calls the Heart Season 11 Episode 4 “Along Came a Spider.”] Lucas (Chris McNally) gets a very unwanted blast from his past, one he’d not exactly been truthful about, when his old “friend,” Jeanette (Cecilia Deacon), comes to Hope Valley on When Calls the Heart. Sure, they’ve gotten into trouble in the past, but she insists she’s just there representing a group of investors interested in the hotel. Lucas doesn’t buy it and spends the episode trying to get Jeanette to leave and keep her from interacting with anyone, especially his ex-fiancée Elizabeth (Erin Krakow). But Jeanette does make sure to introduce herself to Elizabeth just before she leaves. So how much was Lucas not wanting her around about him knowing her tactics and how much was it him not wanting the reminder of who he was? “I think it’s definitely both. Lucas knows Jeanette well...

Lucas is about to confront a mysterious figure from his past on When Calls the Heart. In the April 28 episode of the Hallmark Channel drama, a woman named Jeanette Aucoin arrives in Hope Valley. And it looks like the character, who is played by Cecilia Deacon, could lead to some trouble for the new governor.

“We have a newcomer in Hope Valley in season 11 from Lucas’s past. Her name is Jeanette,” Lucas actor Chris McNally says in a behind-the-scenes video for Hallmark (via YouTube).
While this is the first time When Calls the Heart viewers have seen Jeanette, she’s not exactly new to the show.
“She’s been threaded through the story, through various seasons, ever since Lucas’s inception,” McNally explains.
Jeanette’s character has been mentioned several times in past seasons.

When CSI: Vegas Season 2 ended, one of the Crime Lab’s own was in cuffs. But what exactly did he do? While we wait for Season 3 (a premiere date for which is unknown due to the writers and actors strikes), that’s what we can’t stop wondering. In the finale, Josh (Matt Lauria) learned his mother (Lolita Davidovich) was murdered, and along with Trey (Daniel Di Tomasso), ran his own investigation that got a little out of hand. At one point, he tricked Kahn Schefter (Shane Callahan), who he thought only knew who killed Jeanette into thinking he was bleeding out (using blood bags — it’s helpful to be a CSI). But then, it turned out, Kahn was the person who killed Josh’s mother … and the team found him dead near the end of the episode. Max (Paula Newsome) and Serena (Ariana Guerra) then found Josh. “Why?” Max asked,...

It's not a summer without a touch of cruelty to it. Throw in a thrilling mystery, some shady suspects, and many heart-pounding twists and turns, and you've got Freeform's addictive murder mystery, Cruel Summer.
The return of this sleeper hit kicked off a brand new case that will excite and keep us guessing.
And based on the set-up of Cruel Summer Season 2 Episode 1 and Cruel Summer Season 2 Episode 2, plenty of secrets are rising to the surface. We've got a summer of intrigue and drama awaiting us, Cruel Summer fans.
For Cruel Summer Season 2, many of the same elements from Cruel Summer Season 1 returned. Like the color grading through the years, the computer intro (which I'm calling the "archive"), and the time jumping.
These aspects worked before, so I'm glad they weren't dropped for the new story. These pieces make Cruel Summer feel like Cruel Summer.

It’s going to be a Cruel Summer for two new teenage girls in Season 2 of the Freeform anthology series, which returns with a two-hour premiere on Monday, June 5 at 9/8c.
Following the breakout hit’s first season, which starred Chiara Aurelia and Olivia Holt, it was unclear if the show would continue with their fan-fave characters, Jeanette and Kate, at the center of a new mystery, or if the cast would return to play new personas. Ultimately, the creative team opted to go the full-fledged anthology route, with a new ensemble and a fresh mystery for the second season.

Hi Matt. It's great to see you again. The CSI: Vegas Season 2 finale was some of your best work. In the back half of Season 2, they explored your history with your estranged mother and your friend Trey. What caused this estrangement between Josh and Jeanette, and why does she prefer Trey?
During Josh's adult life,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the CSI: Vegas Season 2 finale “Dying Words.”] CSI: Vegas ends its second season with one of its own in cuffs! In the finale, Josh (Matt Lauria), upon learning his mother (Lolita Davidovich) was murdered, runs his own investigation with Trey (Daniel Di Tomasso). He even tricks someone they think just knows who killed Jeanette into thinking he’s bleeding out with blood bags. But then he learns that this guy is his mother’s kille … and that man is found dead by the rest of the team. When Max (Paula Newsome) and Serena (Ariana Guerra) track down Josh, he lets them cuff him. But is Josh a killer? We tried to get some answers out of Lauria, who also broke down Josh’s feelings for both Allie (Mandeep Dhillon) and Serena. When Max and Serena find Josh, I first was wondering if he even knew the killer was dead, but then...

Hopefully, those May flowers will start blooming soon after the many April (and previous months’) showers. But whatever the weather, Netflix has a solid selection of new movies to watch this month.
Netflix’s May lineup has several bright and joyful animated films as well as more serious stories with light at the end of the tunnel. Tom Hanks’ latest theatrical release “A Man Called Otto” arrives on the streaming service, adapted from Frederick Backman’s book “A Man Called Ove” and following the story of a grumpy old man who struggles to find purpose in life after the death of his wife.
Animated adventures for the whole family include “The Croods” and “The Tale of Desperaux” which teach lessons of bravery in their own ways. For those in the mood for slightly quirkier stories, Jason Moore’s “Pitch Perfect” and “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events” should do the trick.

In an Instagram birthday message to her mother, Jazz Jennings from the TLC show I Am Jazz celebrated her mother’s support and unconditional love.
Jazz’s mother Jeanette has said in the past that she draws inspiration from her daughter and her own confidence has grown. For eight seasons, TLC’s I Am Jazz followed the story of transgender girl Jazz Jennings, who was one of the youngest people to be identified as gender dysphoric. Now in college, Jazz faces many of the same challenges and thrills as most kids her age, with her family by her side.

Cruel Summer, the latest offering from actress-turned-producer Jessica Biel, is taking Freeform by storm! The Hollywood Reporter reports that the premiere of the ‘90s-set psychological thriller ranks as the network’s “most watched series debut ever.” With a fluid timeline and narrative, killer retro soundtrack and gripping central mystery, it is no surprise audiences are flocking to watch.
The engrossing story begins on June 21, 1993, the 15th birthday of self-proclaimed “nerdy” high schooler Jeanette Turner (Chiara Aurelia). As the dynamic timeline flips and flops between 1993, 1994 and 1995, we see Jeanette transform — first into the most popular girl in town after the former queen bee, Kate Wallis (Olivia Holt), goes missing and Jeanette seemingly and seamlessly takes her place, and then into the most hated woman in the world upon Kate’s return almost a year later when it is revealed that Jeanette knew of her whereabouts but told no one.

Andreas from Pussy Goes Grrr here, to talk about one of my absolute favorite uses of popular music in film.
It's from Carlos Saura's Cría Cuervos, an underseen but beautiful film about three orphaned sisters being raised by their aunt in the twilight years of Franco's Spain. The whole film is seen from the (often distorted) perspective of the sensitive 8-year-old Ana, played by Spirit of the Beehive's precocious Ana Torrent, as she reckons with the loss of her adultering Fascist father and her sick, emotionally fragile mother, whose ghost is played by Geraldine Chaplin.
As she retreats into her inner world of memory and fantasy, away from the mundane realities of school and her strait-laced aunt, Ana has one major ally: the song "Porque Te Vas" ("Because You're Leaving") recorded by the British-Spanish musician Jeanette in 1974. It's a surprisingly downbeat pop song, but still fairly generic, and that suits Saura's purposes perfectly.
