Fans of the web series The New Adventures of Peter + Wendy (Napw) can start celebrating. The second season of the modern adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter and Wendy will debut on June 12, 2015.
Napw stars Kyle Walters as Peter Pan and Paula Rhodes as Wendy Darling, two long-time friends from Neverland, Ohio with very different ideas about growing up. The second season of the web series will re-introduce viewers to Peter and Wendy, after the latter left Neverland to pursue the job of her dreams despite Peter’s growing affections for her. Napw season two will, according to the series’ creative team, show “old loves wilt while new loves blossom,” and introduce old enemies who will test the friendships of characters established in the first season.

The New Adventures of Peter and Wendy is a webseries created by Kyle Walters (most recently known for his role in Welcome to Sanditon) and Shawn DeLoache. Loosely based on J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, it’s set in a fictional Neverland, Ohio in which Peter is a comics writer, Wendy an advice columnist, and Wendy’s brothers John and Michael a neurotic editor and ne’er-do-well slacker, respectively. New episodes air twice weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays on Epic Robot TV. The charming series has been well-received and SoS had a chance to speak with writer and creator Shawn DeLoache and lead actress Paula Rhodes (who plays Wendy). Interview edited for length.
SoS: Shawn, you have a background in comic-book writing. How did you end up involved in this series?

1. The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. A runaway success that sparked a veritable wave of web adaptations of romantic novels and stories, this Emmy-winning series is inventive, romantic, and beautifully executed. Ashley Clements and Daniel Vincent Gordh (particularly the former) handled their iconic Lizzie/Darcy roles with aplomb, and the series pulled a particular coup by casting Mary Kate Wiles as Lydia and reshaping her story as that of a party girl who gets hurt and slowly grows up over the course of the series. The interactions between sisters Lizzie, Lydia, and Jane (Laura Spencer), are warm and real and the highlight of the series along with the slowly-built-up Darcy/Lizzie romance.
The main flaw in the series is that it’s too long – the first 50 episodes chronicle every event that happens in the book, and while book purists might call this praiseworthy, this is a web-series not a BBC adaptation, and...

Last year, Stephanie Thorpe and Paula Rhodes released a fan trailer for a screen adaption of ElfQuest, the long-running fantasy comic book by Wendy and Richard Pini. The trailer was extremely well received, receiving loads of press and a panel at Comic-Con. Now, the creative pair appears ready to turn their trailer into a feature-length reality. Thorpe and Rhodes have acquired the production rights to ElfQuest, which will allow the duo to create an official adaptation of ElfQuest for film or TV distribution. The rights to the franchise were previously held by Warner Brothers, but the major studio balked at the chance to turn the cult hit into a feature film. When their hold on the rights expired, Thorpe and Rhodes were quick to snatch them up, with the Pinis right behind them in full support. “Paula Rhodes and Stephanie Thorpe more than proved themselves to us with their award-winning ElfQuest : A Fan Imagining,...

Elfquest has had a long and tortuous road to the big screen, but things may finally be looking up. Warner Bros. rights lapsed earlier this year, but now Stephanie Thorpe and Paula Rhodes have acquired the rights to the 35 year old comic book series. Thorpe and Rhodes made the announcement at Afm, and have crashed onto the scene with their short live action production ElfQuest: A Fan Imagining, which can be found on Youtube or below.
The series, by Wendy and Richard Pini, follows a tribe of elves on the World of Two Moons, who are driven from their forests by humans and stumble upon…more elves.

The next comic book movie adaptation could tell the story of "ElfQuest."
Warner Bros. had been working on an adaptation of the Wendy and Richard Pini comic book that launched in 1978 for a while now, but that fell through earlier this year. Now a new take on the property is picking up steam, as Variety is reporting that producers Stephanie Thorpe and Paula Rhodes have acquired the rights to the 35-year-old series.
Thorpe and Rhodes are no strangers to the property. The duo produced a live-action short called "ElfQuest: A Fan Imagining" that went on to get close to 135,000 YouTube views. Though that's not a guaranteed sign of interest for a big screen adaptation, it's clear that these two know and care plenty about this property.
"With their deep love and understanding of the property, they represent a new direction for 'ElfQuest,'" Pini told Variety about Thorpe and Rhodes coming on board.

Warner Bros. has been trying to develop an adaptation of the 70s comic book series ElfQuest, but earlier this year, the project fell apart. Created by Richard and Wendy Pini in 1978, the series followed a tribe of elves on the distant World of Two Moons who find themselves driven from their forest by humans and then discover something they didn't know existed: other elves. Sounds like this plot could easily be applied to an Avatar storyline. Anyway, Variety reports Stephanie Thorpe and Paula Rhodes, a duo who crafted a live-action short production as "a fan imagining" of a potential film, have purchased the rights to the series. Here's the ElfQuest short Stephanie Thorpe and Paula Rhodes created that helped them land the rights: The plan is to turn ElfQuest into an indie feature film, but since this news was announced at the American Film Market, this could easily just stay...

After Warner Bros. decided to put the kibosh on the “ElfQuest” movie they’ve been developing for years, it seemed like “ElfQuest” fans would never get to see their elves, well, questing on the big screen. After all, it’s hard to make a movie like “ElfQuest” without the full backing of a major Hollywood studio. Or at least, it would be hard to make a decent looking movie, anyway. But someone’s going to give it a shot anyways, it appears. Those two “someones” are Stephanie Thorpe and Paula Rhodes, who recently announced at the American Film Market that they have successfully acquired movie rights to the comic book property from its creators, Wendy and Richard Pini. According to Wendy Pini, it was a no-brainer: With their deep love and understanding of the property, they represent a new direction for ‘ElfQuest.’ New creative energy and new connections in the larger media.

Several year ago, Warner Bros attempted to bring the "ElfQuest" comic book series to the big screen. Apparently the studio failed, because now comes word that producers Stephanie Thorpe and Paula Rhodes have acquired the film rights to the property. The producers put together a short film based on the property that was meant to give investors an idea of the tone of the film. Check out the film below. Video:...

The – there’s really no other way to describe it – quest to bring Wendy and Richard Pini’s ElfQuest series of comics to cinematic life has not been an easy one. When last we saw it, the characters were in the hands of Dodgeball’s Rawson Thurber and Warner Bros., but now Stephanie Thorpe and Paula Rhodes think they might be able to get ElfQuest to cinemas.Thorpe and Rhodes got a leg up on the competition by producing ElfQuest: A Fan Imagining as a short presentation, and are touting the deal at the American Film Market looking for support. The ElfQuest comic series has hit a series of rough patches in its journey to the big screen, but it seems that this time it might be getting there. Variety is reporting that producers Stephanie Thorpe and Paula Rhodes have acquired the film rights to the Wendy and Richard Pini comic series. Just a few years ago the film was in development at Warner Bros. Co-creator Wendy Pini said, "With their deep love and understanding of the property, they represent a new direction for ElfQuest...new creative energy and new connections in the larger media." The producing pair made a short film adaptation of the property to pitch their take on the film which you can see below. The original series was created in 1978 and is described as being about "Cutter,...

Anyone remember that old U2 song “Stuck in a Moment That You Can’t Get Out Of”?
Meet photographer Lovell Milo (T.J. Thyne, of the seemingly immortal Fox procedural Bones). Not only he is stuck in a moment he can’t get out of, he’s stuck in plenty of them. As Lovell explains to a therapist in the film’s opening scene, one day he woke up and he was 92 years old. The next, he was 24. The next day, he was 15. Today, he’s 30. He can barely remember his name, or his situation, other than that sometimes he has an inclination to be a photographer. All he knows is every time he closes his eyes and falls asleep, he’ll open them and be somewhen else.

Last week we brought you distribution news regarding the next film from the helmer of the tragic documentary Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father, and now a trailer has arrived. Directed by Kurt Kuenne, he is switching up genres with the sci-fi film Shuffle, which takes a Groundhog Day cue and follows “a man who wakes up at a different age in his life each morning.” I like the concept and while it doesn’t seem to be the most technically proficient film, I hope Kuenne can stir up the same kinds of emotion here in an entirely different genre. Starring T.J. Thyne and Paula Rhodes, one can check it out below via Movies.com.

If you have yet to see the tragic documentary Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father, I urge you to go seek it out without getting informed in terms of any sort of plot. Directed by Kurt Kuenne, the power of the film had a lot to do with uncontrollable events and so I’ve been interested to see if he has what it takes to helm something not under these circumstances. It looks like we’ll get to see the results soon, as Variety reports his next film has been picked up for distribution.

You’re the online video hosting, distribution, and advertising network of choice for thousands of creators of original web series. You just launched a newly redesigned, curated destination site, intended to highlight and showcase quality online programming in an easily navigable environment for current and would-be consumers of online video content. Because you often sell out of your ad inventory, you’re hoping this new site will attract more viewers, which will create more inventory against which you can sell more ads. You’re certain the new site will naturally accrue more users over time, but you know it doesn’t hurt to accelerate that growth by marketing the property and its premiere content. And if an advertiser that wants to target young creators and consumers of online video programming is on board to craft a branded campaign that shares a few of your marketing initiatives, even better. Such is the case with blip.

A new full length trailer has been released for the Stephanie Thorpe and Paula Rhodes' fan-made film Elfquest. They also have also announced that they will be bringing their Elfquest project to Comic-Con this year. The original teaser trailer for the film blew up online, and it will be interesting to see how this project turns out. The fan-film has got some solid production value, and the actual film could end up being pretty cool.
Here's the synopsis:

It’s known for its magical artistry and for being a vanguard of the indie/fantasy scene. An ElfQuest fan film trailer hit Wondercon this year and created a ton of buzz. The actually very epic, very well made film/trailer is produced by Stephanie Thorp and Paula Rhodes, and was created as a rallying point for fans. Warner Bros. is currently in possession of the film rights to the 33 year old comic book property, and have been hot and cold about whether or not they will actually pursue an ElfQuest film project. Thorpe and Rhodes hope that their project can generate the buzz needed to get the ball rolling.
ElfQuest was created in 1978 by Wendy and Richard Pini and tells the story of a community of elves that struggle to survive/co-exist with other races in a primitive earth-like setting.

From ComicsAlliance: A landmark of self-publishing and cult success, Wendi and Richard Pini's Elfquest is among the many independent comic book series whose translation to film could actually be pretty cool. The highly symbolic story of variously beautiful creatures in a philosophical struggle between tolerance and hate, progress and conservatism, and all sorts of crazy sex stuff, 'Elfquest' movie rumors have existed for nearly as long as we can remember, and a specific project announced in 2008 has yet to materialize.
Unsatisfied with this state of affairs, producers/actors Stephanie Thorpe and Paula Rhodes took matters into their own hands with 'Elfquest: A Fan Imagining,' a nearly five-minute, trailer-style short film that was produced with the blessing of the Pinis. Online video and web series news worth clicking today… Workshop the series debuts Season 2 today on Hulu after inking a distribution deal with the network earlier this spring. Creator Nate Golon is calling it the first half-hour web comedy to premiere on the site, and looking back over our records, he may be right. “As an added bonus, we’ve also posted episode 2, since people were patient enough to wait an extra week,” said Golon on the launch. That means you’ll need to earmark about 44 minutes for this comedic look inside the world of struggling La actors. 20 minutes in, we’d have to say it’s worth it. Six episodes total are due out this season, adding up to a whopping 132 minutes of comedy. [Workshop on Hulu] ElfQuest came to life last night with the SAG screening and release of the “fan imagined” trailer for a would-be series based on the popular comic book series.

However, a few miles along their journey, the fellow's car breaks down, causing the group to have to hike through the hills in search of shelter and help. Rest your wallets, folks, there are hardly any new major horror releases this week. Instead we're getting mostly re-released Blu-ray and 3D Blu-rays. Really the only thing that's piquing our curiosity is RoboGeisha!

Clash of the Titans Blu-ray 3D
Directed by Louis Leterrier
Starring Sam Worthington, Gemma Arterton, Mads Mikkelsen, Alexa Davalos, Ralph Fiennes
If you hadn't had enough of this 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans (review) on Blu-ray DVD or in the theaters (review), this is your chance to get double- (triple-?) dip on the title with a Blu-ray 3D version. Unskippable is Mystery Science Theater 3000 for the Xbox generation. In each installment of this weekly web series, the comedy crew at Loading Ready Run riff on bad video game cinematics as animated action sequences unfold on screen. Just like MST300 doesn't only appeal to B movie buffs, Unskippable's allure transcends the gamer crowd. You don't have have to own a PS3 to be entertained by people making fun of visually engaging video game vignettes with poorly constructed storylines. Since it's debut in January 2009, Unskippable has been one of the most successful web series for the online gaming destination, The Escapist. Russ Pitts, Editor-in-Chief at The Escapist, told me over e-mail the success of the series led to the launch of another Loading Ready Run program with The Escpaist, Daily Drop. After their pilot episode snagged the Grand Prize at the 2009 Escapist Film Festival, creator Brett Register and his producing team of Rick Rey and Paula Rhodes knew they were on to something. At that point the show was called Dorian's Quest, but after a name change to A Good Knight's Quest, the team set out to shoot a 24-episode gamer comedy web series that would run on The Escapist Magazine's site in weekly installments. "I'm a huge fan of the Escapist, I have been for years, ever since I was in college," said Register. "I always wanted to do an 80's style show, like my own Masters of the Universe web series—the bad movie not the cartoon TV show." To launch the series, the team hosted a well-attended La premiere at the Capitol City Hollywood on Monday night. When a video game princess crosses over into the real world,...

If you're of the mind to believe George Romero, Staunton Hill is about as scary a movie as you're apt to find. Then again, I suppose any father would provide a blurb to their son's DVD case trying to convince you to buy it. Except for me. When I have a kid and he makes a bad movie, he can have a quote, which I will borrow from Jay Sherman: It stinks! Staunton Hill is directed by Cameron Romero, son of George, and it takes the tried and true Texas Chainsaw Massacre formula, takes out the scares, the frightening villain, the brutality, and pretty much anything else that makes it good or interesting. Now, this film isn't gouge your eyes out terrible, no, but it is fall asleep on the couch boring. Which is unfortunate because if you do, you'll miss one good gore scene. But then you could go back to sleep. Any...
