Indie producers Anonymous Content and the Film Department are joining forces to develop "The American Way," a World War II-era mob drama from first-time screenwriter Brian Kistler.
In a saga described as "Once Upon a Time in America" meets "The Untouchables," two brothers are profoundly affected by their parents' murder, leading one to the FBI and the other to a life of crime. Despite bad blood between them, the imprisoned sibling agrees to go undercover to help his brother take down an infamous gangster.
AC's Steve Golin and Fd's Mark Gill and Robert Katz are producing the project. Fd's Neil Sacker is exec producing with AC's Matt DeRoss, who submitted the project to Fd creative exec Natalie Borlaug.
Kistler was signed to Wma in September on the strength of "Way," which blends fictional characters with real-life mobsters from the era.

NEW YORK -- Mark Gill and Neil Sacker's Film Department is beefing up its ranks with five staffers and a production vp, Amanda Coplan.
Andrew Klausmeyer, John Meckler, Natalie Borlaug, Christine Otal and Isaac Takeuchi have been brought aboard as creative execs at the five-week-old film financing, production and sales outfit.
Coplan comes to the company from Warner Independent Pictures, where she worked with Gill in development, production and acquisitions. She will report to president of production Robert Katz in Film Dept.'s West Hollywood offices.
Meckler is another alumni of WIP, where he worked as a script analyst. Klausmeyer and Otal both arrived from UTA, where they worked in the motion picture literary department, and where Otai also served in the television literary department. Borlaug was previously an assistant to Todd Phillips Co. producer Daniel Goldberg and director William Friedkin on "Bug". Takeuchi spent the last four years in CAA's motion picture literary department.
Coplan, who worked with Gill on such films as "Good Night, and Good Luck" and "March of the Penguins", previously served as a brand strategy consultant for New Line Home Entertainment and Cirque du Soleil.
