Eagle Pass, Texas — The video is 13 seconds long. In the foreground is an orderly green lawn, lit and safe. In the background, there are the lights of Mexico, Coahuila state. In the middle is the river. It’s a void, darker than the night sky.
Amid crickets, a woman’s voice echoes from the void, or maybe a child’s. Then a man’s. They’re crying out for help.
The lawn belongs to former state Rep. Poncho Nevárez (D), who represented Eagle Pass in the Texas Legislature for eight years.

His former aide has been making bank off his name for years and he wants his cut, right now. At least that’s how former President Donald Trump sees it.
“It’s my fucking money!” the 2024 Republican presidential frontrunner privately vented in October, referring to an alleged sum in the tens of millions of dollars, a source with direct knowledge of the matter tells Rolling Stone.
Trump wasn’t talking about a business deal. Rather, he’s been grumbling about money donated to a think tank his former staffers and...

Anyone who hasn’t stumbled into the world of online Actual Plays is, first of all, missing out on a lot of fun, but second of all, hasn’t encountered the series of truly fascinating creative choices that the production teams behind them get to make. The form can involve any podcast or web series where a cast of actors play a tabletop role-playing game like Dungeons & Dragons for audience consumption, either taped in advance or streamed live on platforms like Twitch.
Actual Plays offer a dual sense of immersion for viewers: They simulate both the experience of playing with friends (who happen to be top-tier storytellers) and the pleasures of fantasy, heroic characters exploring inventive worlds, and outsiders banding together to fight forces of oppression. By showing the table, Actual Plays make the act of imagining into a team sport.

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-tx) was carjacked about a mile from the U.S. Capitol on Monday night.
Cuellar was parking his car outside of his apartment in the Navy Yard area of Southeast D.C when three armed individuals approached the congressman and stole his vehicle.
“As Congressman Cuellar was parking his car this evening, 3 armed assailants approached the Congressman and stole his vehicle,” his chief of staff said in a statement. “Thank you to Metro Pd and Capitol Police for their swift action and for recovering the Congressman’s vehicle.

In the highly likely event that you’re still recovering from last week’s Most Memorable Year theme, Dancing With the Stars followed that up on Monday with the perfect chaser: Disney Night. (Thanks, corporate synergy!)
This week, it was once again time to bust out the Mickey Mouse ears and CGI’d woodland creatures, as each contestant performed a routine inspired by Disney’s box office successes. (In other words: literally any Disney movie.)
Below, let’s run through the evening’s strongest and weakest dances:

Start with the title: Clown Car! may sound like the movie someone will inevitably make about the 2016 presidential campaign, but how about evoking those great Seventies wacky-journey films like Death Race 2000, Vanishing Point or Smokey and the Bandit?
When I raised the question on Twitter, suggestions included All the President's Wanna-Bes, Every Which Way But Left, Cannonball Rug, A Kochwork Orange and the subtly appropriate Hair.
All excellent ideas, and we may have to put the movie name to a separate vote. Right now, though, the more pressing question is...

Planned Parenthood and Connie Britton -- that's Mrs. Coach to you "Friday Night Lights" fans -- have partnered for a new T-shirt asking the ever-important question: What would Tami Taylor do?
The shirt, which is only available for the month of July, was designed to allow others around the country show their support for Texas women. The front reads "Wwttd? What Would Tami Taylor Do?" and the back has the web address standwithtexaswomen.org.
Britton played Tami Taylor for five seasons of "Friday Night Lights." The actress currently stars in ABC's "Nashville."
"The character Tami on 'Friday Night Lights' is a Texas woman deeply committed to her community and to standing up for what is right for her neighbors and the people she loves," Britton said in a statement. Aubrey McClendon, America's second-largest producer of natural gas, has never been afraid of a fight. He has become a billionaire by directing his company, Chesapeake Energy, to blast apart gas-soaked rocks a mile underground and pump the fuel to the surface. "We're the biggest frackers in the world," he declares proudly over a $400 bottle of French Bordeaux at a restaurant he co-owns in his hometown of Oklahoma City. "We frack all the time. What's the big deal?"
McClendon dominates America's supply of natural gas the same way the Tea Party...

Thanksgiving is here (American Thanksgiving, at least), making it officially the Holiday Season. It’s a time for reflection, for pausing to appreciate those people and things we’re most grateful for, and for focusing on what’s really important in life. Television. Here are just a few of the many things I am grateful for this year.
***I don’t follow baseball when it’s not the Cubbies, and therefor missed the spectacular Game Six of the World Series. Its utter epicness, however, demands that any fan of televised sports at least mention it in any discussion of this nature. A great game, and one of the TV moments of 2011 that I’m most sorry to have missed.

For an episode of Saturday Night Live that seemed to rely heavily on recurring characters and sketches, returning host Emma Stone helped to make the whole thing feel fresh thanks to her energized, no-holds-barred approach to hosting.
There was never a shred of doubt that SNL would have their turn to poke fun at Gov. Rick Perry and his instantly infamous “oops” gaffe, but the cold opening parodying the moment felt too late to the game. (Especially after seeing Perry’s legitimately funny, self-deprecating Letterman appearance on Thursday.) Despite Bill Hader’s best efforts (I think he really just needed...
