It’s a Date Night reunion for Steve Carell and Tina Fey in a new adaptation of the 1981 rom-com The Four Seasons.
The former co-stars are set to lead the upcoming series, which will see Fey teaming up with longtime collaborators Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield to write the comedy. Colman Domingo (Rustin) is also joining the show as a series regular.
The film — which was written and directed by Alan Alda and stars Alda, Carol Burnett, and Rita Moreno — follows three couples who vacation together every season but whose worlds are upended when one of them divorces.
Netflix has ordered eight episodes of the series, which is produced by Universal Television and will begin filming later in 2024.

There is something so delicious about biting into a comedy from the Tina Fey/Robert Carlock universe. “30 Rock,” of course, was the gold standard — and a show I find myself still quoting to this day. Team the Fey camp with Meredith Scardino, who cut her teeth on “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report,” and you get “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” another landmark show that helped Netflix define its smart comedy brand early in that streamer’s life.
Scardino was also part of the Fey/Carlock collab that gave us NBC’s “Mr. Mayor,” and I am still a bit angry that not enough people tuned into that sharp series. Ted Danson and Holly Hunter led a workplace comedy that delightfully skewered Los Angeles while setting up some amazing character dynamics.
But that’s not what this column is about. Yes, the short life of “Mr. Mayor” still stings. Instead,...

Tina Fey, the American actress known for “Saturday Night Live,” “Mean Girls,” “30 Rock,” and “Date Night,” stands at 5 feet 4 ½ inches (163.8 cm). This information comes directly from Fey, who corrected a common misconception about her height in an interview with the Cincinnati Enquirer, saying, “The Internet says I’m 5-foot-2. And I’m 5-4 and a half.”
She also mentioned her height in Glam in 2008. For context, the average American woman is around 5 feet 4 inches (162.5 cm). Therefore, Fey’s height is just slightly above this average, aligning her closely with the height of many American women.

Seth Meyers has got plenty more “A Closer Look”s coming. The SNL star-turned-late-night-talk-show-host has signed on to stay seated behind the desk of NBC’s Late Night through 2028.
NBCUniversal just announced the show’s renewal, alongside news that Meyers’ production company, Sethmaker Shoemeyers, has also extended its contract to continue creating content across the network’s many platforms.
Meyers has spent the bulk of his career working within 30 Rock. The comedian joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2001, and was promoted to writing supervisor four years later. In 2005, Meyers began serving as SNL’s co-head writer alongside Tina Fey and Andrew Steele. When Fey departed the legendary sketch series in 2006, he took over her spot on “Weekend Update” and served as the show’s sole head writer for the next season.
Meyers, ever the workhorse, performed his final episode of SNL on February 1, 2014.

NBC is rolling out the red carpet to celebrate Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary.
Ahead of its upfront presentation next week to Madison Avenue ad buyers, the network on Friday announced that it has scheduled a three-hour primetime special to honor the anniversary. The special, which will also be live, is set to air Sunday, Feb. 16, from 8-11 p.m. Et.
That will cap what NBC says will be a “celebratory weekend” honoring the Lorne Michaels-created sketch show.
Additional details have not yet been announced as Michaels and company are in the home stretch of closing out SNL’s 49th season with alum Maya Rudolph set to host this weekend and Jake Gyllenhaal on deck for the May 18 season finale.
News that NBC would formally celebrate SNL’s 50th anniversary comes as no surprise as Michaels said last January that he was already planning for the February event.

After the end of strikes, agents, managers and producers quickly moved in to assemble high-profile packages to take out in what was expected to be a frothy marketplace following six months of inactivity. But, while there have been a few bidding wars and big sales with a couple of others pending, the level of demand has not been what many anticipated. The biggest casualty of the tight market — packages with A-list stars attached.
“This has been such a head-scratcher,” one agent said about the situation. Agencies are keeping record of all the star packages that went out and failed to draw interest over the past few months despite the level of talent that has included Oscar and Emmy winners and nominees in front or behind the camera, stars of blockbuster movies and iconic TV series and, in a couple of instances, famous IP. The total now exceeds 20.

Steve Carell is ready for a vacation after lending his dulcet tones to Illumination’s Despicable Me 4 and John Krasinski’s upcoming family comedy If. Thankfully, Netflix has a plane ticket with Carell’s name on it, so long as he’s willing to join the cast of The Four Seasons, a forthcoming comedy series led by Tina Fey.
The Four Seasons, a retread of the 1981 Universal movie of the same name, is a co-creation between Fey, her 30 Rock co-star Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield. Details about Carell’s character remain a mystery, though the cast list for Alan Alda’s 1981 comedy could provide some clues. In 1981’s The Four Seasons, three couples vacation together every season. Steve Carell is reuniting with Tina Fey and Universal Television.
The Office grad has closed a deal to co-star in Netflix’s The Four Seasons, the update of the 1981 Alan Alda feature film of the same name. The role reunites Carell with Tina Fey after the duo starred as a married couple in the 2010 movie Date Night.
Ordered straight-to-series in January after Netflix won the show following a bidding war after the conclusion of last year’s dual strikes, the adaptation was co-created by Fey and her fellow 30 Rock alums Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield.
Production on the series is slated to begin later this year. The original film, written and directed by Alda, revolves around three couples who take vacations together each season and explores the changes in the group dynamic when one of couples splits up and the man brings a much younger woman on subsequent trips. The Haunted Hotel feels like an unabashed reminiscence of my childhood. I’m sure a lot of us have watched cringe-worthy Bollywood horror movies from the 2010s, but never had I thought I’d be coming across something so embarrassingly similar ever again. The Haunted Hotel is indeed quite haunting in that regard. Not too sure about the jumpscare part, though. Through its obvious screenplay, this movie gives away the climax sooner than it wants to.

Seth Meyers is sharing his thoughts on rumors that Lorne Michaels is ready to bid farewell to Saturday Night Live and retiring from the NBC late-night sketch show.
The Late Night host recently made an appearance on Mike Birbiglia’s Working It Out, where the podcast host asked Meyers about Michaels leaving SNL.
“Are you gonna take over for Lorne, or is it Tina [Fey] and then you?” Birbiglia asked, to which Meyers responded, “I think this is a false narrative that Lorne is going anywhere.”
Meyers was a head writer at SNL and worked on the sketch show between 2001 and 2014. The actor doesn’t think Michaels was completely serious when he said he wanted to retire from the comedy show after its 50th season.
“I think it made sense for Lorne — who’s, yeah, got a flair for the dramatic — to say, ‘I think I’ll be done at 50,'” Meyers said.

When she’s not earning laughs as the flighty but metamorphosing Summer Dutkowsky, the self-proclaimed “hot one” of Girls5eva, the real Busy Philipps — beloved actor, internet personality, and podcaster — has spent the past seven years building a reputation as the brutally honest one.

Starting today, three seasons of Girls5eva — the Tina Fey-produced comedy starring Sara Bareilles, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Busy Philipps, and Paula Pell as members of a one-hit wonder pop group struggling to mount a comeback in middle age — are streaming on Netflix. Back in May 2021, singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles returned to the Hollywood Bowl to promote a new album. At one point, she invited her “Girls5eva” co-stars — Renée Elise Goldsberry, Paula Pell and Busy Philipps — to join her onstage. The quartet performed the song “4 Stars” from the comedy, marking the first and only time they’ve sung together in public.
But here’s the rub: This was the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, and all 17,500 seats around the Hollywood Bowl were empty. Bareilles’ concert was being livestreamed, and the cast had no idea what the fans at home felt about their performance.
Which sounds a lot like the fate of “Girls5eva” itself. The comedy was one of the first original series on Peacock, but on a nascent streamer, the audiences weren’t huge. Critics and a small cadre of fans embraced the Tina Fey-produced comedy, but it never caught on with a broader viewership.

An adaptation of the Broadway musical based on the 2004 film, Tina Fey’s latest rendition of the high school comedy surpassed $100 million at the global box office after six weeks of release. It held the top spot at the domestic box office for three consecutive weeks following its Jan. 12 release. “Mean Girls” was originally slated to debut directly on Paramount+, however executives decided on a theatrical release after enthusiastic test screenings.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are New York City record-breakers: The duo’s Restless Leg comedy tour broke the record for most consecutive shows by any comedian at the famed Beacon Theatre, selling out 11 consecutive shows.
The Beacon engagement of the former Saturday Night Live cast mates ran between February 7 and 18. The record attendance was announced by Beacon owner Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp.
The previous Beacon record of 10 consecutive shows was set in October by Trevor Noah.
The Restless Leg tour marked the first time either Fey or Poehler performed at the Upper West Side venue. During the engagement, the two welcomed surprise guests from their SNL days, including Fred Armisen, Rachel Dratch, and Maya Rudolph. The shows were promoted by Live Nation.

A joke from Mean Girls which Lindsay Lohan pushed back against seems to be missing from at-home versions of the film released last week.
The movie musical version of the film, which began as Tina Fey’s beloved 2004 movie starring Lohan and then went to Broadway before making its way back to the screen this year, became available on digital platforms last week after its theatrical debut in January.
The film, which opened 2024 with a bang at the box office, featured a cameo from Megan Thee Stallion telling Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) that “Y2K fire crotch is back.”
In 2006, a TMZ video made headlines for oil empire heir Brandon Davis’ insulting comments about Lohan, which included him referring to the actress as a “fire crotch.”
The controversial joke is now missing from some versions of the film’s digital release, including an edition rented from Amazon by The Hollywood Reporter.

The 2024 Mean Girls remake faced a torrent of criticism since the trailer dropped in November 2023. Now that it finally hit theaters last month, it hasn’t fared very well.
The new Mean Girls movie is a musical remake, not just a regular one. It’s based on the 2018 Broadway musical, which itself was based on the 2004 film. The movie introduces a new generation of the Plastics to audiences.
Mean Girls
Although the remake failed to capture the original essence of the first flick—Tina Fey strived to make this adaptation of Mean Girls fun, by bringing beloved characters to the screen with a whole new generation.
The Sisters’ star is one of the influential female voices in the industry. With her quirky, comic-genius glory and wit, it’s no wonder why many love her.
That’s why even Auliʻi Cravalho stepped forward to defend her and had something to say to Mean Girls detractors.

Two years after ending its two-year run on Peacock — and subsequently being rescued by Netflix — Meredith Scardino’s musical comedy “Girls5Eva” is ready for its new streaming home. Seasons 1 and 2 are set to move from Peacock to Netflix in March, and they’ll be accompanied by the all-new Season 3, which dropped its first trailer on Thursday.
Hailing from executive producers Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, “Girls5Eva” follows an eponymous singing group that achieved pop superstardom in the 1990s before engaging in a struggle-filled reunion in the present day. Led by a cast that includes music and Broadway veterans Sara Bareilles and Renée Elise Goldsberry, the show earned a passionate fanbase for its irreverent humor and catchy songs. What it didn’t earn on Peacock, was much of an audience.

At the 2024 Super Bowl, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Usher soaked up the limelight as the Kansas City Chiefs became back-to-back champions with their overtime defeat of the San Francisco 49ers.
And of course, the Super Bowl was again a venue for dozens of advertisers — who spent up to $7 million for a 30-second spot in CBS’s telecast — to try to break through on the noisiest night on TV. Many marketers used the time-tested tactic of deploying star-studded commercials, a phenomenon described by one ad exec as “a celebrity arms race.”
As tracked by YouTube, the No. 1 most-watched spot on Super Bowl Sunday was Tina Fey’s turn for Booking.com, in which the “Saturday Night Live” alum hires “body doubles” to imagine different versions of herself on vacation. Bust out the blue sequins, polish up your roller skates, and start sending those congratulatory gifts to Taylor Swift. As the country participated in the gratuitous orgy of capitalism otherwise known as Super Bowl Lviii, the real ones know that even though the Chiefs came out on top in a down-to-the-wire overtime win over the 49ers, the bona fide highlights of every Super Bowl Sunday are those super spots. Judging by motifs of the past, some years the commercials are downright weird, while in other eras the bulk focused on heart-wrenching sentimentality.

“Authenticity is dangerous and expensive.”

“We’re doing the 50th anniversary show in February of ’25, so I will definitely be there for that, and definitely be there until that, and sometime before that we’ll figure out what we’re gonna do,” he told Et.
Michaels has been heavily involved with the series since its creation in 1975, save for a five-year hiatus in the 1980s. The prolific producer and comedy kingpin has not announced any plans to retire or step away from SNL. That said, speculation has been rampant for years that Michaels,...

The new hit take on the beloved Tina Fey high school comedy shows a lasting appeal, but can the original ever be topped?
Because time is a construct, it’s the year 2024, and the biggest film at the box office is … Mean Girls. That would be the new movie adaptation of the hit Broadway musical based on the beloved 2004 film, which feels like a distinctly modern case of IP ouroboros. Despite harsh-to-middling reviews and several trailers noticeably avoiding any of the film’s musical numbers, the new Mean Girls topped the MLK holiday weekend box office with $33m, out-earning the original in absolute terms. And, true to the spirit of the original, the Mean Girls musical movie has generated its own stream of memes – for not knowing it was a musical, for example, or for star Reneé Rapp Regina George-ing a tour bus company owner during a press junket.
For skeptics,...

After creating “Saturday Night Live” in 1975, longtime producer Lorne Michaels has been tied to the long-running variety show for nearly 50 years. Stick to the same job for long enough, one might start to wonder who will take over the position after one steps out of it. Michaels was asked about the matter on the Emmy Awards carpet by Entertainment Weekly, whose reporter floated “30 Rock” creator and previous “SNL” cast member Tina Fey as a potential successor to take over the series.
“It could easily be Tina Fey, but you know, there are a lot of people who are there now who are also, you know,” Michaels said, acknowledging that there are plenty of people who could be a successor. “Tina’s brilliant and great at everything … She’s a very important person in my life.”
