Madrid (Spain), Sep 2 (Ians) Fc Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez on Saturday explained a busy last day in the transfer window for his club, which saw two arrivals and three departures.
Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo arrived on loan from Atletico Madrid and Manchester City, while winger Eze Abde joined Real Betis in a permanent move and Ansu Fati and Eric Garcia went on loan to Brighton and Girona respectively.
Garcia was perhaps the most surprising departure, but in his press conference ahead of Sunday’s game against Osasuna, Xavi explained that the central defender “came and told me that he wanted a change of scenery, that he needed it”, reports Xinhua.
“Ansu, Abde and Eric asked to leave. Ansu has the feeling that he needs to play. The objective is for him to succeed again at Barca,” said the coach, who commented that Barca “have a buyback option” for Abde,...

Barcelona, Aug 31 (Ians) Fc Barcelona’s Spain international forward Ansu Fati appears to be on the verge of a loan move to Premier League outfit Brighton for the 2023-24 season.
The 20-year-old missed Barca’s Thursday training session, with the Spanish press reporting that he had travelled to Brighton to undergo his medical with the club that finished sixth in the Premier League last season to qualify for the Europa League.
Sevilla had been interested in signing Fati, but Brighton was willing to pay around 80 per cent of the five million euro salary he currently earns at Barca — something that the side from the south of Spain was unable to do, reports Xinhua.
Fati has struggled to recover the level he showed when he broke into the Barcelona first team as a 16-year-old in 2019, after suffering a serious knee injury in November 2020 which he needed four operations to fully recover from.

New Delhi, Aug 29 (Ians) At just 16 years and 45 days, Lamine Yamal became the youngest player to provide an assist in a Laliga EA Sports game in the 21st century, which earned a standing ovation from the Villarreal Cf fans.
Sunday afternoon’s Laliga EA Sports duel between Villarreal Cf and Fc Barcelona was a thriller, which finished 4-3 to the Catalan side and which featured so many world-class players.
There was the World Cup winner Juan Foyth, the reigning Pichichi Robert Lewandowski, the current Zamora Trophy holder Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the two-time Zarra Trophy recipient Gerard Moreno, the former Golden Boy Gavi… yet the Mvp of the match was 16-year-old Lamine Yamal, making just his fourth appearance for Fc Barcelona’s first team.

Madrid (Spain), Aug 17 (Ians) The second round of matches in the new La Liga season gets underway with two matches on Friday, with Mallorca at home to Villarreal and newly-promoted Las Palmas visiting Valencia’s Mestalla Stadium.
Villarreal’s poor pre-season form carried on into their opening game as they lost 2-1 to Real Betis. Quique Setien’s side is clearly missing players such as Samuel Chukwueze and Nicolas Jackson, whose sale has robbed them of pace and goals in attack.
Valencia have the youngest squad in La Liga after another summer without new signings, and coach Ruben Baraja has to make do with youngsters, reports Xinhua.
Valencia kicked off with a win against Sevilla last weekend, and although the Mestalla fans are likely to vent their anger at club owner Peter Lim once again, three more points would give Baraja’s men a good cushion ahead of what could be a difficult campaign.

Madrid (Spain), Aug 14 (Ians) Fc Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez launched a blistering attack on La Liga and referee Cesar Soto Grado after his side’s title defense started with a 0-0 draw away to Getafe on Sunday.
Neither side was able to score in a match that lasted an incredible hour and 55 minutes, with 10 minutes of injury time added in the first half and 15 at the end of the second half to compensate for the constant stoppages provoked by Getafe’s tactics.
Barca’s Raphinha was sent off for elbowing Getafe defender Gaston Alvarez. Xavi was also sent to the stands for his protests at Getafe’s attempts to break up and stop the play with time wasting and a non-stop stream of fouls and off-the-ball incidents, reports Xinhua.
Speaking to the press afterwards, Xavi pulled no punches with what he had seen.

Madrid, Aug 14 (Ians) Fc Barcelona were held to a goalless draw by Getafe in their La Liga debut on Sunday evening.
Both sides finished with 10 players, after Raphinha’s dismissal for elbowing Getafe defender Gaston Alvarez in the first half, while Getafe’s Jaime Mata received a red card after the interval, reports Xinhua.
Barca’s coach, Xavi Hernandez, was also shown the red card due to his apparent discontent with Getafe’s fouling and time-wasting tactics. This frustration was evident as the referee added a whopping 10 minutes of added time in the first half and over 15 in the second. That period culminated with Var dismissing what seemed a valid Barcelona penalty appeal.
Real Madrid secured a 2-0 victory against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, thanks to first-half goals from Rodrygo and debutant Jude Bellingham. Rodrygo utilized open space to score in the 28th minute, followed by Bellingham’s goal from a corner,...

Madrid (Spain), Aug 12 (Ians) La Liga champions Fc Barcelona will open their title defense with a difficult away game at Getafe on Sunday evening.
Barca coach Xavi Hernandez should have something approaching a full squad after the club was able to find the necessary finance on Friday to inscribe Ronald Araujo and Ilkay Gundogan into their first-team squad, and others such as Alejandro Balde and Oriol Romeu should have been written into the squad by Sunday’s match.
However, Barcelona have been depleted by the departure of Franck Kessie to Saudi Arabia during the week, while Ousmane Dembele’s move to Paris Saint-Germain was confirmed on Saturday morning.
That means Xavi will still have to include some B-team players in Sunday’s squad, with Fermin Lopez and impressive 16-year-old winger Lamine Yamal also likely to travel.

Madrid (Spain), Aug 10 (Ians) The upcoming La Liga season commences this weekend amidst a Spanish heatwave, prompting some matches to be rescheduled to 10 p.m. local time to mitigate the heat’s effects.
There are two games on Friday — Almeria hosting Rayo Vallecano and Sevilla squaring off against Valencia –but one of them was rescheduled due to extreme heat.
Victor Moreno makes his coaching debut for Almeria, which recently sold striker El Bilal Toure. On the other hand, Francisco Rodriguez faces the challenge of filling Andoni Iraola’s shoes in the Rayo dugout, helming a squad seemingly less potent than last season’s, reports Xinhua.
Reigning Europa League champions, Sevilla, face off against a Valencia side that has witnessed pivotal departures without notable replacements. This transition has prompted coach Ruben Baraja to lean on Valencia’s youth, evident from the squad’s average age of 22.8 years.

Madrid, Aug 9 (Ians) Fc Barcelona’s head coach, Xavi Hernandez, didn’t dismiss the possibility of bringing Neymar Jr. back to the club from Paris Saint-Germain before the transfer window closes later this month. Barcelona are on the lookout for a successor to Ousmane Dembele, who seems poised to transfer to Psg. Coupled with rumors about Neymar’s dissatisfaction in France, speculations about the Brazilian’s potential return, five years after his departure, have surged, Xinhua reported.
“I can’t say anything because last year, I mentioned the name of a player at another club and they were angry about that (Martin Zubimendi at Real Sociedad). We’ll see what unfolds by the end of the transfer period,” the coach remarked.
While discussions about potential newcomers to Barca are rife, the club grapples with integrating new signings, including Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez. Even players like Alexander Balde, who have penned new contracts,...

Madrid (Spain), Aug 8 (Ians) As defending champions of La Liga, Fc Barcelona, coached by Xavi Hernandez, will be the team to beat this season. However, several factors could hinder Barca’s title defense and their ambitions in Europe.
The primary point of discussion ahead of the new campaign is that Barca won’t be hosting games at Camp Nou Stadium. Due to significant renovations, they’ll play at the Olympic Stadium, which seats just under 56,000, far less than Camp Nou’s 99,000. Consequently, many fans won’t see games in person, and a running track around the field will distance players from fans, potentially affecting the home advantage.
The Camp Nou has always been a stronghold for Barca. But with the Olympic Stadium not offering the same aura, coupled with potential pitch quality concerns, it may impact Barca’s game play, a Xinhua report said.

New Delhi, July 20 (Ians) Oriol Romeu is coming home. After a great season with Girona Fc in Laliga EA Sports and a decade in English football, the 31-year-old will once again wear the Blaugrana jersey as he looks to replace the now-departed Sergio Busquets in the holding midfield role.
Last season, Romeu played for Girona Fc where he had a great season under coach Michel, who said in a press conference that Oriol has made him a better coach and that he will be a huge loss.
Romeu can bring experience and tranquillity to Xavi’s midfield. In addition, he is a home-grown player with Barca DNA. He dominates positional play to perfection, has personality and strong leadership skills. He’s a team player who knows how to cover his teammates’ backs.
Here are five things you might not know about the reigning Laliga EA Sports champions’ newest star.

Madrid, May 22 (Ians) The Spanish La Liga has no time for a pause as this week sees the 36th round of matches, with plenty still to play for and three games on Tuesday night.
Real Sociedad will be first into action with a home game against an Almeria side that needs one win to assure its top-flight survival for another season.
Their win in Camp Nou against Fc Barcelona on Saturday leaves Real Sociedad fourth in the table, five points clear of fifth place Villarreal, and another three points would leave them on the verge of assuring a Champions League place.
David Silva is a doubt for Real Sociedad with a muscle problem, while Almeria striker Lazaro Vinicius should have recovered from fatigue after scoring a hat-trick in his side’s vital 3-0 win at home to Mallorca on Saturday.

Madrid, May 17 (Ians) Fc Barcelona’s men’s and women’s teams celebrated their respective league title wins through the streets of the city, cheered on by hundreds of thousands of fans lining the streets.
The women continue to be unstoppable, claiming another title with a 100 percent record, while the men assured the title with a 4-2 win away to Espanyol on Sunday night, with four games left in the season, reports Xinhua.
Barca’s 14-point lead over Real Madrid leaves no room for debate over which side deserves to win the title. Warsaw (Poland), May 16 (Ians) Fc Barcelona’s Polish veteran striker Robert Lewandowski believes that winning the La Liga title will be the first step to developing as a team even more.
The team coached by Xavi Hernandez sealed the title with Sunday’s 4-2 win over Espanyol. The Catalans have a 14-point advantage over second-placed Real Madrid with four matches to play.
Lewandowski, who scored twice on Sunday to lead the team to the massive triumph, did not hide his happiness, reports Xinhua.

As a club, we are in a difficult process, we faced hard times so that trophy means a lot for the club. It’s a first step on the way for developing,” the forward said in an interview with Eleven Sports on Tuesday.

Madrid, May 15 (Ians) Fc Barcelona clinched the La Liga title with four games left this season, thanks to a 4-2 win away against local rivals Espanyol on Sunday night.
Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring after just 10 minutes, and Alejandro Balde doubled the lead with a far-post volley nine minutes later before Lewandowski’s second of the match made it 3-0 before halftime, reports Xinhua.
Jules Kounde headed home Barca’s fourth eight minutes into the second half, and although Javi Puado pulled a goal back for Espanyol in the 73rd minute and Joselu netted a second in injury time, it was too little too late for Espanyol, who remain second from bottom of the table.
The result leaves Xavi Hernandez’s side with 84 points from 34 matches: a 14-point lead over second-place Real Madrid and 16 points more than Atletico Madrid in third.

Madrid, May 11 (Ians) Fc Barcelona could be confirmed as this season’s La Liga champions in the 34th round of matches held over the weekend. Xavi Hernandez’s men will assure the title if they win the Barcelona derby away to relegation-threatened neighbors Espanyol on Sunday night, or if Real Madrid fail to win at home to Getafe on Saturday and Atletico Madrid don’t beat already-relegated Elche.
The Barcelona derby is a tense affair at the best of times, between two clubs who may be neighbors but with a poor on and off field relationship, a Xinhua report said.
While a win would confirm Barca as champions, it would leave Espanyol staring at the reality of relegation. Luis Garcia’s side are second from bottom, three points behind third from bottom Getafe and Valencia, who are in 17th position, and Barca fans would love to help send them into the second division.

1. Full-strength Barca Are A Different Beast
Although Betis seem to be slipping away at the wrong time of the season, as demonstrated by their 4-0 defeat in Camp Nou, the fact is the return to fitness of Andreas Christensen, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, and Ousmane Dembele has given Fc Barcelona another dimension, reports Xinhua.
Christensen scored Barca’s opening goal on his return from injury and provided more options to the Barca back four, while Pedri offered something extra all over the pitch, De Jong gave stability and the chance to step forward, and a fit Dembele offered pace and trickery in the attack.

Andreas Christensen returned to the Barca side after injury and he scored the opening goal in the 13th minute of a game that was over before halftime after Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha had put them 3-0 up, while Betis were reduced to 10 men after Edgar was shown two yellow cards, reports Xinhua.
The central defender had come on earlier in the game after Luiz Felipe was forced out through injury.
Veteran Betis winger Joaquin Sanchez was also injured late in the second half and went off, leaving his side with just nine men with 10 minutes left to play.

Madrid, April 27 (Ians) La Liga leaders Fc Barcelona suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Rayo Vallecano after another lackluster display from Xavi Hernandez’s team.
Although Real Madrid’s loss in Girona on Tuesday ensured that Barca would end the round of matches with a lead of at least 11 points at the top of the table, Barca failed to capitalize on the opportunity to move within touching distance of the title, reports Xinhua.
With Pedri and Frenkie de Jong back in the starting lineup for Barca, Rayo’s aggressive football gave them the advantage, and Alvaro Garcia scored with an angled shot from the left.
Left back Fran Garcia scored in the 53rd minute with a low shot after the Barca defense failed to pick up his deep run.
Robert Lewandowski pulled a goal back for Barca with seven minutes remaining, but Rayo held on for a well-deserved win.

Madrid, April 22 (Ians) Fc Barcelona play arguably their most important and difficult game between now and the end of the La Liga season when Atletico Madrid visit the Camp Nou Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Barcelona go into the weekend with nine games to play and an 11-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid at the top of the table – although that lead will be reduced to eight points if Madrid beat Celta Vigo on Saturday afternoon.
However, Barca’s recent performances have given cause for worry, with Xavi Hernandez’s side unable to score in their last three matches – a 4-0 defeat at home to Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey, a 0-0 draw in La Liga at home to Girona and a 0-0 draw away to Getafe last weekend, a Xinhua report said.

Madrid (Spain), April 20 (Ians) Matchday 30 in Spain sees some vital head-to-head duels in the fight to avoid relegation in La Liga and one huge game in the race for the title.
Although Fc Barcelona hold an 11-point lead at the top of the table that looks unassailable with just nine games left to play, Xavi Hernandez’s side has disappointed in recent weeks.
Last weekend’s 0-0 draw in Getafe marked Barca’s third consecutive game without scoring a goal, and they are clearly missing Pedri, Dembele, De Jong, and Andreas Christensen.
Atletico Madrid’s visit to Camp Nou should be Barcelona’s toughest test between now and the end of the campaign, with Atletico travelling on the back of a run of 10 wins from 12 matches that have all but confirmed they will finish at least third.

Madrid (Spain), April 15 (Ians) La Liga leader Fc Barcelona visit Getafe on Sunday in what could be a difficult afternoon for Xavi Hernandez’s side.
Barca have decided to travel to the Spanish capital by high-speed train, rather than fly, to cut down on emissions, with the club saying its players will use more sustainable forms of transport from now on where feasible.
The weekend starts with Barcelona 13 points clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga, although that lead could be down to 10 points depending on Madrid’s result in Cadiz.
Xavi has once again to deal with a long list of injuries, with Ousmane Dembele, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Andreas Christensen all still on the sidelines and likely to remain out until the end of the month.
That once again limits Xavi’s options to rotate his side, and Barca have looked flat in recent matches,...

Madrid, April 12 (Ians) Fc Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski added his voices to those calling for Leo Messi to return to the club when his current contract with Paris Saint Germain expires at the end of June.
Barca coach Xavi Hernandez on Sunday said he’d like Messi back at the club he left two years ago, while the club vice-president Rafael Yuste expressed the same wish last week. Speaking at the presentation of a book to raise funds for children suffering autism, Lewandowski was also asked about the Argentinean striker, reports Xinhua.
“Messi belongs to Barca and if he comes back, it will be something incredible. We know that his place is here in Barcelona,” said Lewandowski.
“I don’t know what will happen, but I hope that next season we can play together,” he added.

Madrid, April 6 (Ians) Matchday 28 in La Liga could see a major hangover from this week’s Copa del Rey semifinals that will affect both the top and the bottom of the table.
The weekend kicks off on Friday with Jose Luis Mendilibar making his home debut as Sevilla coach as his side entertain Celta Vigo. Mendilibar’s first game in charge saw Sevilla win away to Cadiz, and three more points against a rival that is in mid-table would start to lift Sevilla clear of the threat of relegation.
Osasuna booked only their second Copa del Rey final appearance in their history on Tuesday night as they beat Athletic Club 2-1 on aggregate after extra time and that emotion and 120 minutes of intense football could leave them with heavy legs ahead of their home game against Elche, a Xinhua report said.

Barcelona, April 6 (Ians) Karim Benzema scored a hat trick as Real Madrid took advantage of important injuries for Fc Barcelona to overturn a 1-0 defeat in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal to book their place in the final with a 4-0 win in Camp Nou Stadium.
Three second-half goals from Benzema after a vital opener from Vinicius Jr on the stroke of halftime put Madrid on their way to a final spot against Osasuna on May 6, reports Xinhua.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti picked an attacking side, with Benzema, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo in attack and Fede Valverde in midfield, while Xavi Hernandez’s options were limited by injuries with Andreas Christensen, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri and Ousmane Dembele all sidelined.
Barca started stronger, with Lewandowski seeing a shot deflected wide and Raphinha heading at Thibaut Courtois before great defending from Ronald Araujo denied Vinicius Jr and a quick Madrid counterattack.

Madrid, April 4 (Ians) Fc Barcelona and Real Madrid meet for the fifth (and final) time this season when they play the return leg of their Copa del Rey semi final on Wednesday night.
After losing 3-1 to Real Madrid in their first meeting of the campaign, Barca have won the last three clashes between the two sides, beating Real Madrid 3-1 in the Spanish Supercup, winning the first leg of the semifinal 1-0 with a defensive display in the Santiago Bernabeu in early March and then beating their eternal rivals 2-1 in their second La Liga meeting in the Camp Nou, two and a half weeks ago.
Although Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti continues to insist that he is relaxed about his future, the Italian must know that very few Madrid coaches who lose four times to Barca in a single campaign are likely to hold on to their jobs.

Madrid, April 1 (Ians) Fc Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez on Friday said that he wants Lionel Messi to return to the club for next season.
Speculation about a possible return to Barca from Paris Saint-Germain for Messi has been growing in recent weeks, and declarations from Barca vice-president Rafa Yuste, who commented “destiny is wise” when asked about the Argentinean, have only served to fuel that speculation, reports Xinhua.
When asked about Messi in his press conference ahead of Saturday’s La Liga visit to Elche, Xavi was initially reluctant to respond.
“I don’t think it’s the moment to talk about Leo’s return. I am his friend and I speak to him frequently, but it’s not the moment for his good, nor the good of the club, or the squad,” he said.
However, after those initial declarations, Xavi added, “It is a question that we are dealing with.

Warsaw, March 31 (Ians) Fc Barcelona president Joan Laporta has said that the team is “on the right way to winning the La Liga title, but the race is not over.”
Xavi Hernandez’s team are on course to regain the La Liga title as the Catalans have a 12-point advantage over Real Madrid with 12 matches to play.
“We are on the right track to take the crown, the players know that. We defend very well and we attack effectively. However, there are still three months until the end of the season. It’s time to continue hard work and it’s definitely too early to celebrate. The race for the title is not over yet,” Laporta told Xinhua.
The Barcelona top official came to Poland for the premiere of a documentary about Poland international Robert Lewandowski who has had a brilliant start to life at Camp Nou, with 25 goals in all competitions.

Madrid (Spain), March 24 (Ians) Fc Barcelona’s injury problems have mounted up again with the news that central defender Andreas Christensen has suffered a calf injury in his left leg.
The 26-year-old had to leave the pitch in the 18th minute of Thursday’s Euro 2024 qualifier between Denmark and Finland, and early indications are that he could be sidelined for at least two weeks.
If that is the case, Christensen will miss at least Barca’s visit to bottom side Elche on April 1 and the return leg of their Copa del Rey semifinal against Real Madrid on April 5, when his side will defend a 1-0 first-leg advantage.

Madrid (Spain), March 16 (Ians) The El Clasico between Fc Barcelona and Real Madrid will again take pride of place in La Liga this weekend, although the last round of matches before the international break is vital at both ends of the league’s table.
Barcelona and Real Madrid have already faced each other three times this season, with Real Madrid winning 3-1 in their first La Liga meeting. Barca beat Real by the same score in the Spanish Supercup and won 1-0 in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium at the start of March in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal.
That game saw Xavi Hernandez’s side produce an untypically ultra-defensive display without several key players through injury, reports Xinhua.

Madrid (Spain), March 11 (Ians) Fc Barcelona face a difficult visit to Athletic Bilbao on Sunday night a week ahead of the El Clasico clash against Real Madrid.
If Real Madrid beat Espanyol in this week’s encounter, Barca will kick off with a six-point lead over their rivals and a win in the San Mames Stadium would see that gap extended to nine points ahead of the meeting with their title rivals. Any other result would see Madrid go to Barcelona with a chance of moving within touching distance at the top.
Xavi Hernandez’s side are boosted by the return of Robert Lewandowski after a muscle injury that has sidelined him for two weeks, while Gavi is back to provide bite in midfield after his suspension, reports Xinhua.
However, Ronald Araujo misses out through suspension after being sent off last weekend against Valencia, while Pedri and Ousmane Dembele are still injured.

Madrid, Feb 22 (Ians) Fc Barcelona travel to Old Trafford on Thursday aiming to keep their European ambitions alive when they take on Manchester United in the second leg of their Europa League tie.
Barca still have options in the tournament after a 2-2 draw at Camp Nou last week, despite being under pressure from United for long periods of the match, and Raphinha’s equalizer from a cross that deceived everyone to end up in the net has left the tie in the balance.
However, if Barca want to avoid another painful (and expensive) early exit from Europe, they will have to end Manchester United’s impressive form at Old Trafford, where the English side is unbeaten in its last 17 home matches; the last time United were beaten at home was against Spanish opposition when Real Sociedad beat them 1-0 on September 8th.

Madrid (Spain), Jan 31 (Ians) Fc Barcelona has a difficult away game against Betis on Wednesday, but Xavi Hernandez’s side travels to Seville with the chance of opening an eight-point gap at the top of La Liga and putting the pressure on Real Madrid.

Barca eventually triumphed in Saudi Arabia, but needed extra time and a penalty shoot-out to get past Betis, who currently sits sixth in the table and would move level with fourth-placed Atletico Madrid with three points on Wednesday.

The win comes after they scraped past Real Sociedad 1-0 in the Copa del Rey and only beat Getafe 1-0 in La Liga. Although Robert Lewandowski played in the cup game, he missed the league match against Getafe and a 1-0 win against Atletico Madrid earlier this month, reports the news agency Xinhua.
With Lewandowski suspended, Ousmane Dembele has carried the weight of Barcelona’s attacking football,...

Madrid, Jan 30 (Ians) Tests carried out on Fc Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele has confirmed that he will be out of action for three to five weeks.
The French international winger had to leave the pitch midway through Saturday evening’s 1-0 win away to Girona, and coach Xavi Hernandez commented afterwards that Dembele feared he had suffered a muscle injury in his left thigh, reports Xinhua news agency.
The club carried out tests on Sunday morning, confirming on their social media sites that Dembele had suffered an injury while adding that “when he is available again will depend on how his injury progresses.”
The nature of the injury means that Dembele will be sidelined for at least three weeks, but given his long history of muscle problems, the club will have to be careful not to rush his return.
That means he will at least miss Barca’s next three La Liga matches against Betis,...

Madrid, Jan 26 (Ians) The La Liga season reaches its midway point in Spain this weekend, with several clubs involved in the Copa del Rey knockout tournament, facing a pile-up of fixtures in a non-stop beginning to the year.
League leaders Fc Barcelona face a short trip to play Girona, just three days after booking their place in the semifinals of the Cup with a 1-0 win at home to Real Sociedad.
Midfielder Pedri is a slight doubt for the game with a muscle problem that saw him forced off on Wednesday and with another league match against Betis next week. Barca coach Xavi Hernandez may not risk such a key player.
Ferran Torres is available again after suspension, but Robert Lewandowski is out as he serves the last game of a three-match ban.

Madrid (Spain), Jan 23 (Ians) The 18th round of games in Spain saw both Fc Barcelona and Real Madrid win their respective games, while Real Sociedad continue to press on their heels in third place.
Here are some things we learned in La Liga this weekend.
1. Barca don’t have to show their best
Pedri’s first-half goal was enough to give Fc Barcelona a win at home to Getafe and keep Xavi Hernandez’s side three points clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga.
It was far from a vintage display from Barca against a rival that posed more problems than many might have expected, but with Ousmane Dembele looking lively in attack and Barca’s defense keeping up an impressive record that has seen them concede just six goals in La Liga all season, they did just about enough to win.

Riyadh, Jan 16 (Ians) Young Barcelona midfielder Gavi starred as Fc Barcelona beat Real Madrid 3-1 to win the final of the Spanish Supercup, here.
The 18-year-old gave two assists and scored one of Barca’s three goals in a complete display in the King Fahd Stadium as Barca outplayed their historic rivals for nearly all of the game to give Xavi Hernandez his first title since replacing Ronald Koeman as coach 14 months ago, reports Xinhua news agency.
Real Madrid brought Luka Modric, Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy into their starting 11, while Andreas Christensen, Alex Balde and Sergio Busquets were all in for Barcelona.
With both sides playing an extra man in midfield, space was at a premium in the first half, with challenges not allowing players time on the ball.

Riyadh, Jan 11 (Ians) Real Betis and Fc Barcelona square off in the second semifinal of the Spanish Super Cup on Thursday night.
The game pits the winners of last season’s Copa del Rey with La Liga’s runners-up, with the other semifinal between Real Madrid and Valencia on Wednesday. The final will be held on Sunday.
Betis have travelled without their left-back Alex Moreno, who is due to fly to Birmingham on Wednesday to complete a move to Aston Villa.
Betis president Angel Haro has also refused to rule out listening to offers from Atletico Madrid for Spain international striker Borja Iglesias, who has scored eight league goals this season.
The good news for Betis is that striker Juanmi is now fit and will be able to provide cover in attack, while Juan Miranda will play at left-back against his former club, reports Xinhua.

Madrid, Jan 6 (Ians) Matchday 16 in La Liga comes after an intense week of Copa del Rey action, which will have given some sides confidence while leaving others with a few things to think about.
Here are the four things to look out for in Spain this weekend:
Problems For Barca Against Atletico Madrid
Although the return of defender Ronald Araujo after injury was good news for Barca coach Xavi Hernandez, that was Xavi’s only reason to be cheerful ahead of Sunday’s visit to play Atletico Madrid.
Barca needed extra time to get past the third tier, Cf Intercity in midweek and after Araujo was taken off, they looked weak at the back. They also missed chances without Robert Lewandowski leading the line, with both Ferran Torres and Memphis Depay misfiring.
That’s important as Lewandowski is suspended for the Atletico game along with Jordi Alba and they are...
