Ahead of the first episode dropping on March 19, the podcast Black Velvet Fairies has been officially announced with an audio trailer this afternoon, and you can listen below.
Black Velvet Fairies comes from Mike Monello, Gregg Hale, and Eduardo Sanchez, the minds behind the found footage horror classic The Blair Witch Project.
From podcast publisher Prx, Black Velvet Fairies is the audio diary of Lucy Verdell, a woman whose grandmother leaves her four black velvet paintings of fairies. But not twinkly, little sprites – these are grim warriors, kings and queens.
As she investigates her family’s history with the artwork, disturbing dreams and unexplained encounters pull Lucy toward a dark and dangerous fairy world that some believe is real.
Black Velvet Fairies will be available free on demand across all major podcast platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, and Overcast, with new episodes of the 13-episode series released on...

The beginning of Exists echoes those many other horror films set in the deep woods. Hapless folks encounter an unusual threat, likely after trespassing or offending the locals. And as this well-used formula commands, the characters then die in gruesome fashion. Eduardo Sánchez’s 2014 film is, admittedly, derivative of most body-count horrors with rural backdrops, yet it contains at least one novelty to set it apart: a Bigfoot. Hardly five minutes into this film and the young cast hits something on the road. As they assess the damage to their car and figure out what they struck, the characters get the sinking feeling that they are being watched from the nearby woods. Someone finally states the obvious: “That wasn’t no deer, bro.”
On average, found-footage horror films delay their strangeness in an effort to establish a semblance of normalcy. Make everything hypernormal and deliberately tedious so that the bizarre bits are more persuasive.

‘Last Night at Terrace Lanes’ Review – Bowling Slasher Lands Somewhere Between Strike and Gutterball
In the pantheon of cool horror movie locations, the bowling alley is an overlooked gem. Unsurprisingly, the tendency to feature a disembodied body part being flung down the lane means that such films are frequently horror comedies.
Last Night at Terrace Lanes adopts a slasher approach (see: Gutterballs – or don’t), but maintains a humorous tone. The film, from director Jamie Nash and written by YA horror author Adam Cesare (working from a story by Jenna St. John), has a great logline: what if a killer cult attacked a bowling alley?
Sadly, the finished product struggles with its execution, leading to a decidedly mixed comedy slasher.
It’s the last night of business at Terrace Lanes, an aged bowling alley scheduled for demolition. Among the employees and the regulars bowling one last time, there’s Kennedy (Francesca Capaldi), a queer teen looking for some solo time with her crush Tess...

Chicago – Director Eduardo Sánchez has found one bizarre way to commemorate the rogue nature of his horror film “The Blair Witch Project” for its 15-year-anniversary - by crafting an analogously lesser movie with the very rulebook he defied in 1999. In turn, his new Bigfoot found footage film “Exists” becomes a minimal horror project for the GoPro camera era that doesn’t have much of a life of its own outside of its “Blair Witch Project” context.
Rating: 1.5/5.0
The text from the very beginning of the “Exists” clues audiences into the number of recorded sightings regarding Bigfoot, a statistic that could be as fudged as when “Blair Witch Project” actor Joshua Leonard was reported as “missing, presumed dead” on his IMDb page. Sanchez has a generic batch of attractive and camera-savvy twenty-somethings (Dora Madison Burge, Denise Williamson, Roger Edwards, Samuel Davis, Chris Osborn) encounter this woods creature pretty quickly in the movie,...

Between Bobcat Goldthwait’s Willow Creek and Eduardo Sánchez’s Exists, Bigfoot is having quite a horrifying year. In Willow Creek, the legendary monster goes the “mumblecore” route for some simmering, slow-burn chills, while Exists goes full creature-feature by bringing an animalistic primitiveness to the hairy best. Defying most horror rules, Sánchez wastes no time introducing in Sass to horror audiences that are yearning for some backwoods survival horror. As far as found footage scares go, Sánchez gains major points for bringing intensity in a fast and furious manner, never bullshitting his fans with cheap decoys or distorted jump-scares. Exists delivers Exactly as prompted, being a polar opposite to Goldthwait’s subtle tension. If Bigfoot is your jam yet twenty-minute-long-tent-rustlings aren’t your thing, go with Exists on this one – you’ll thank me while you’re washing your blood-soaked clothes.

Brian sets up cameras around his friend’s cabin with hopes of recording Bigfoot in action, but he probably doesn’t expect those same lenses to capture his friends’ potential final moments, as this beast does not come in peace. In Exists, Eduardo Sanchez, co-director of The Blair Witch Project, heads back into the woods, and the film’s first trailer shows a Bigfoot that’s not skittish in the slightest.

Over two years ago, we heard The Blair Witch Project director Eduardo Sanchez would return to found footage, the genre that launched his career, with Exists, a film focusing on the mythical creature Bigfoot. Now the first trailer has arrived, showing off the tale of five friends on a camping weekend in the remote woods of East Texas, who have their fun cut short as they are forced into a game of survival against a legendary predator that is stronger, smarter, and more terrifying than anything they would have ever believed exists. This ain't no Harry and the Hendersons, but can it stand out from other found footage fare? Box Office Spartans slayed the competition at the box office this weekend, with 300: Rise of an Empire taking in an estimated $45.1 million. Though the sequel, with Noam Murro at the helm in place of Zack Snyder, failed to match 300's opening numbers domestically, it outpaced the original overseas, raking in $87.8 million from 58 markets. Mr. Peabody & Sherman was yet another disappointment for DreamWorks Animation, opening in second with $32.5 million. The movie suffered from family-friendly competition like The Lego Movie, which placed #4 with an additional $10.8 million, and Frozen, which held at #8 with an additional $3 million. Last week's top movie, the Liam Neeson actioner Non-Stop, dropped to #3 with $15.8 million.

It claimed its cult-like status before it was released in theaters, and was the talk of the fest much like Reservoir Dogs and Clerks were before them. Found footage The Blair Witch Project not only redefined the genre, but it quickly became part of cinematic and festival history. And speaking of legends, Eduardo Sanchez decided to follow a mythic one for his latest endeavor. Following the trails of sasquatch (and influenced by 1972′s The Legend of Boggy Creek), this has zero to do with the touring monster truck of the same name. The filmmaker was recently back at the fest for his contribution to S-vhs (V/H/S 2) and recent promo art from the Afm means the shot in April Exists looks ready to go.
Gist: Scripted by Jamie Nash, this is about a group of friends who venture into the remote Texas woods for a party weekend find themselves stalked by Bigfoot.

V/H/S/2
Written by Brad Miska, Simon Barrett, John Davies, Jason Eisener, Gareth Evans, Jamie Nash, Eduardo Sánchez and Timo Tjahjanto
Directed by Simon Barrett, Jason Eisener, Gareth Evans, Gregg Hale, Eduardo Sánchez, Timo Tjahjanto and Adam Wingard
USA/Canada/Indonesia, 2013
What can be said about V/H/S/2 that hasn’t already been said about its predecessor? As it turns out, not all that much. After just a year since V/H/S was first released, the second installment comes out with minimal changes, and thus should divide audiences into similar camps as the first did; that is to say, into a “don’t mess with a good thing” crowd, or a “you can’t polish a turd” circle.
Like V/H/S, V/H/S/2 (electric boogaloo?) centers around a set of mysterious tapes, each, when played, revealing a harrowing video. This time around, the poor souls...

When I finished V/H/S for the first time, I expected to log-on to my corner of the internet, and see my friends and colleagues sharing my excitement for the experience. What I found instead, was that I appeared to be in the minority. Everybody had something negative to say about the movie, save for James Harris(Jimmy Terror). I was surprised by this. We don’t get many quality anthology films these days, and I really feel like that’s what V/H/S brought to the table. Sure, some of the segments were nonsensical,...

Cast: Kelsy Abbott, Hannah Al Rashid, Fachry Albar, Oka Antara and Devon Brookshire. There is something to be said about horror anthologies of late; they are short and sweet. The ABC's of Death (2012) offered dozens of tales in a short time frame, late last year. Now, V/H/S/2, the sequel to 2012's V/H/S, brings five tales in under ninety minutes. The longest in this feature clocks in at thirty minutes ("Safe Haven") and each story has something unique to offer. Shot found footage style, via several creative ways, V/H/S/2 manages to be uniquely compelling, while including several scare worthy moments. It would be best to discuss each episode from best to worse. The best short is titled "Safe Haven." Interestingly enough, the director of...

I'm not sure if it is good or bad that mainstream film festivals segregate horror films to special "Midnight" sections. On the one hand, these special sections are rarely in competition, but on the other hand, it gets them in front of an audience that may not otherwise be exposed to it.
But I digress. The Tribeca Film Festival announced today its Midnight Movies selections, marking a rebranding of the film block from Cinemania. Check out the lineup below:
Dark Touch, directed and written by Marina de Van. (France) – World Premiere, Narrative.
