- Former soprano in the adult chorus, she was director of the Metropolitan Opera's children chorus 1986-2009.
- Her students ranged in age from about 5 to the early teens. She guided them through weekly classes at the opera house, on-stage rehearsals, and from the wings at every performance. One of her students was Emmy Rossum.
- She was a very good pianist, but knew early on that she wanted to make singing her career. As a young woman, she studied at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the venerable music conservatory in Rome. She sang in the Radio City Music Hall chorus, and toured as a soloist with bandleader Fred Waring before joining the Met.
