- After graduating from California State University at Chico with a business degree in marketing, I started my career at Apple in Customer Relations. I moved to Austin, TX when Apple opened a new site there and was promoted to a Sales Manager, leading a team of sales reps selling computers to K-12 School Districts. Eventually, I was promoted to Support Programs Manager in AppleCare and Soon after I moved to product marketing and became the AppleCare Protection Plan Product Marketing Manager. It was at this point that I decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the TV and film Industry. Although I secretly wanted to be an actor, I didn't feel confident enough to pursue acting. To learn the business, I bounced around in various positions to educate myself in an exciting new industry. I interned in casting, was a production assistant for the art department of an NBC drama series, worked as a set production assistant for a CBS drama series, became the casting coordinator for several reality shows for a production company, then moved to NBC as a casting coordinator for a dating reality show. Finally, I moved into scripted casting and became a casting assistant for the same company that I had originally interned with the year before.
I worked on several TV 1/2-hour comedy and 1-hour drama pilots for many major and cable networks. It was during this time that I started to cast short films for UCLA and USA film students. Eventually, I was promoted to casting associate and worked films and shows targeted toward kids. Later I worked on projects for Disney and Nickelodeon.
One of the Nickelodeon pilots I helped to cast, "The Fresh Beat Band," got picked up to series. I was asked to cast the show and was eventually promoted to casting director for the series and cast 3 seasons of the show on the Paramount lot. I had a blast working on the show, because I had to find actors that were strong comedic actors with a specific type of physical comedy. Most roles required singing, dancing, and playing musical instruments. I really enjoyed reading the next episode's script, because I never knew what kind of skills I needed to audition [actors] for.
When the series ended, I worked for notable casting offices and cast shows like "Masters of Sex" for Showtime and "Agent X" for TNT. There were some amazing pilots I continued to cast along the way. I continue to cast independent feature films. In 2014, I moved to Austin, Texas and worked on feature films, commercials, web series, music videos, and short films. I also enjoy meeting new actors at casting workshops and panel discussions. I'm known for giving a headshot workshop for helping actors to get the best headshot to be seen, remembered and called in to audition.
In 2015 I cast "The Conway Curve" and in 2021 I cast "Match Me If You Can", both MY Productions Films from Austin. I look forward to my next project!- IMDb Mini Biography By: Steve Maisel
