Actors and writers are the ones walking picket lines, but the dual-strikes’ collateral damage can be felt all the way to the sound booths. Without actors, the Adr mixing that can work magic in the editing room is D.O.A.
Adr, which stands for automated dialogue replacement, is the process by which actors re-record dialogue after production. If done properly, the new audio can be seamlessly spliced into the movie as though it was the track from the original on-set take. Though it’s sometimes a last resort in the interest of preserving a performance, Adr is a common means of replacing a “dirty line,” or one corrupted by unwanted background noise. It also helps to fill in the gaps if a story needs to be tweaked without dramatic edits — or God forbid, reshoots.
But with performers on strike, sound engineers and mixers also find themselves on the sidelines.

The film revolves around two men, who seem to be living in different timelines. The first one, Kaito, is living in the present and is a writer for a political magazine with a nationalistic line. Despite his seemingly regular persona of a dedicated employee who occasionally drinks with his friends, he has another, quite dark and perverse one. He keeps stalking Kuniko, an ex-colleague in university he used to have an affair with, who is now a very successful author. Furthermore, he has regular sex sessions with Yumi, a prostitute, where he is dressed in a Japanese military uniform and she is made to act in various, submissive roles, at least when he is not masturbating with a tube-like gadget. Even more than that, he seems to hide a rage in him, which is bound to be released at some point. This moment comes when a colleague declines his invitation to dinner.

Comic Con hasn’t been strictly superheroes in a long, long time. We have scoured the schedule for this year’s event and have pulled out the dark, the bloody, the monstrous, and the ghostly panels that look to be right up FEARnet readers’s alley.
Paranormal Passion Panel
Authors discuss the inclusion of romantic elements in their action-packed novels. Protagonists must battle the forces of evil while trying to keep the world (and often their lovers) safe from destruction. Maryelizabeth Hart of Mysterious Galaxy leads a discussion with Comic-Con special guest Christine Feehan (The Dark Series), Claudia Gray (Spellcaster), Aprilynne Pike (Earthbound), Lauren Kate (The Fallen Novels), Kendare Blake (Antigoddess), and Magnus Flyte (City of Dark Magic).

There's always one day during the Sdcc when you just shake your head, laugh, and say, "This schedule is ridiculous." Saturday, July 20th, is shaping up to be that day this year.
Horror fans will have a lot of choices to make as the "Bates Motel" panel battles the one-two punch of Godzilla and Seventh Son. Later in the day you'll be faced with choosing to learn more about "True Blood," Telltale's The Walking Dead video game, or "Being Human." Right now 20th Century Fox's presentation that runs at the same time remains "To Be Announced," but once details are revealed, we'll provide an update.
Other panels vying for your attention throughout the day are "The Originals," "Grimm," I, Frankenstein teamed with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (that combination should make for some interesting audience reactions), a look at gameplay from Dead Rising 3 on the Xbox One, more games, comics,...

No, this isn’t a CNN news bulletin, I mean, c’mon folks, we’re not that type of news organization, but instead, I’m talking about writer/director Chris Smith (Severance, Creep) next film, Black Death. The film will be released by Magnet on February 4th to a variety of VOD markets, then theatrical March 11th. Here’s the new one-sheet:
Wikced art, huh? Here’s the plot: “Medieval England has fallen under the shadow of The Black Death. In this apocalyptic world filled with fear and superstition, a young monk called Osmund is charged with leading the fearsome knight Ulric (Sean Bean) and his group of mercenaries to a remote marsh. Their quest is to hunt down a necromancer – someone able to bring the dead back to life. Torn between his love of God and the love of a young woman, Osmund discovers the necromancer, a mysterious beauty called Langiva.

I'm pretty psyched --- today drops Fallout: New Vegas, the sequel to the ultra incredible Fallout 3 videogame. Set a few years after the last game, this time the makers have gambled on a new locale, the relatively untouched setting of Las Vegas, with you as a betrayed and left-for-dead courier out for revenge.
There's something deeply satisfying about watching a mutant's head explode in into a puddle of gore and bone. Okay, sure, I could be a little twisted and sick, but come-on, how often do you get to level a .44 Magnum at some monster's cranium, compute a course-of-death with your V.A.T.S, and watch the resulting blood-mist in slow motion? Me? Not nearly often enough.
In the video below, we get a behind-the-scenes look at the voice talent that went into making the video. I've noticed just how important top-tier talent is to rendering a game believable.

Controversy at Ugo HQ! Games Editor Russ Frushtick says, “That looks ridiculous!” and slams his headphones down on his desk. Luckily, these headphones are made from adamantium, as a hurl from Russ is no mere “file that for later” toss. But Movies Editor disagrees. “I dunno. I believe in Sam Raimi.” I’m as fond as the next dweeb for Raimi’s web-slingin’ series, but I am truly stoked (...
